@daveyw

I used the aget tool from the uhctools arhive http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/UHCTools

It's a http download tool that is not such a big bottleneck as odyssey and it calculates the averange speed in a readable format so it's quite good.
The file i downloaded is a benchmark file provided by my isp.

My result at 11.23MB/s equals 89.84 Mbps so it's okey for me. But would be nice to know the max speed when not being limited by a router or the isp but i think it's fair to say that roadshow is up to the task to deliver decent speeds but all our tools might not be.

I do not have any real upload speeds to report now and it's been to long since the last upload to even guess but i'm sure it was way better than yours.
Is your nic connected by pci or pcie? pcie is supposed to be faster.
Have you checked the speed of the onboard nic with the driver provided by aeon?
I'm so happy with my 8169 nic so i have not bothered to try that new driver yet.
I have the beta updates so that might have some impact on my results.

I think what we need most is an updated network stack. My download, and especially upload speeds, on OS4 are diabolically slow. I boot into into Linux on my X5000 and, with the same hardware, I get much faster speeds.

How slow is diabolically slow?
I suspect that what you need is a better driver for your nic. What nic are you using?

I'm using some pcie rtl8169 on my X5000 and for me the limiting factor is that my router can not operate fast enough to test the speed (and i can not do a speedtest on my local network since my other machines is on slow wifi or is slower than the X5000.

Here is a speedtest i just ran.

8.RAM Disk:UHCTools> aget.os4 http://speedtest.bahnhof.se/100M.zip
Buffer size: 128kB
Sent HTTP GET request!
Done parsing HTTP header
Server response: 200 OK
Receiving file: 0% - [oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo] - 100% (100MB)
100MB received in 8.90s - 11.23MB/s

As i said.. the router does not run any faster so i do not know how fast i can go but this must be better than diabolically slow?

@Amigo1

If multiren has stopped working correctly you should give Denil715 some feedback about it.

If it turns out to be a problem with mui then the mui-dev team need feedback.
Things often gets fixed much quicker if the developers gets feedback :)

I used to use multiren to rename mp3 files to match my preference about how they should be named and maybe it was a bit counterintuitive but i mostly remembers it as a great tool for it.

@Amigo1

You should test Multiren and see if it fits your needs for file renaming.

I have not needed to use it for many many years but i remember it as a great tool.

I'm sure theres alternatives for many of your other requests also.

@kas1e

I could not reproduce your problem. Tested on X5000/20 with quite a lot of files without a filetype but with only one USB stick.
I have dos 51.158.

Great with Dopus 5.82 btw! i was using 5.81 up until now for some reason.

I would appreciate if you gives it full UTF support.

Do you use proper 80 wire or older 40 wire IDE cables?
The Pegasos 1 will give exactly this problem when 40 wire cables are used and they are pretty similar to the Aone XE...

Re: Help Multiboot final edition 4.1 53.71 classic

To dualboot my A4000 i have one partition for each install, the one with os3.9 is my default os so i have it set with the highest boot priority.

My OS4.1 partition has a lower boot priority and i'm using a bootdevice kickstart module in my kicklayot with my system os4.1 partition defined as boot partition so os4.1 will default to this partition when loaded.
(read about bootdevide in sys:documentation/kickstart/bootmenu.doc

On cold boot i just let it boot into os3.9 if that is what i want and if i want to boot into os4.1 i do it from early startup, when the 4.1 kickstart is loaded it will boot from the correct partition until i do a cold reboot.

There is other ways to solve this but this, you could for example download a tool called "ChangeBootPri" and play with it.
I have it on some amiga and it's quite nice, i execute it in s-s to make the last partition i booted from the one with the highest priority.

@salass00

An SSH client with terminal emulation would be super cool!
I can't believe we dont have that on amigaos and that not more users are screaming for it...
I have worked around it by using rdesktop and opening up an terminal directly on my linux machine but would not mind if there was working terminal emulation directly in aos.

What is a "real" graphic card?
The system will boot without a gfx card, you even have a jumper on the board to enable/disable vga.

I checked, and I have nothing but PicassoIV in DEVS:Monitors, everything else is in the Storage. Despite this I still have pal and multiscan VGA modes in the ScreenMode prefs. Those are probably always available in Classic. I tried enabling the fake native modes, but that doesn't seem to be possible on classic.

Multiscan is always available in classic if you have the bootvga.kmod module enabled in your kicklayout.

@m1nuto

The package to get from Amistore is "Warp3D RadeonHD southern Islands"

There is some hope that we'll one day be able to run opengl stuff with warp3d nova (with some extra speed boost i hope) but as the warp3d si driver isn't that expensive and it's needed anyway to run stuff that uses w3d directly i would not wait for that.

I just wish that they made it more clear what's needed to get this stuff running, i was there from the beginning so i know this stuff but as a new user i would expect this stuff to just work OOTB.

@m1nuto

Do you have a card that supports Warpd3d and drivers for it?

If you're trying to run opengl on the X5k i guess you're using some RadeonHD card and that driver is not supplied with the OS or the Enhancer pack.

You need to get Warp3D for RadeonHD Southern Islands cards.

Looking good!
I will definitely save this binary and see if i can get used to launch it instead of the browser. Old habits die hard.

One thing that might be cool (atleast as long as there aint too may newsfeeds to read from) is to have it running iconified and get rhingiho notifications (or from a docky in amidock) when there is something new to read and then just click on the notification to have enewsreader to be uniconified.
