Dunno, never use AmiUpdate.. But all that updates usually not only changing of exe only, but all those plugins , directory layot and alt. Imho will be a bit boring for AmiUpdate.

New version in upload query on os4depot. New since last release:

-- Added "square" option to the rectangle tool
-- Changed the way mouse input of line, gradient line, rectangle, circle by 2 points and ellipse works: it now uses dragging instead of two clicks, to be more similar to what users are used to.
-- Added "Brightness", "Saturation" and "Hue" options to the Generate Random Noise filter
-- Fixed bug with the morphology filters: the wrong filter doing the wrong operation
-- Preview in filter dialogs now has same width/height ratio as the drawing
-- Multithreading, progress bars and busy indicators are now used for filters. Not yet supported for operations that change the image size.
-- Added "Crayons" color palette

-- And of course new icon from Mason :)

Some days ago i checked FlightGear, and sadly, but last version want B00st libraryes version 1.37.0 or more, but we have on aos4 only 1.33.1 . I already ask SSolie (who make b00st for aos4), to port latest versions of b00st (it also needs for build HeroesMight&Magic 3), but for now nothing.

I also download old versions of FlightGear (0.7 and 0.8), they not want BOOST, but they (as well as latest one) want PLIB library (http://plib.sourceforge.net/ , portable game library).

Dunno about others, maybe possible to port.

Also about 0.5-1 year ago i trying to port Gl-117, and while games more or less works, it crashes all the time on loading of levels. I have contacted with author, and he try to help me, but, after 1 or 2 weeks we can't fix it, and i drop it out. But still, with every new release of SDK i trying to recompile that game (in hope that is problem in std++ lib and alt). For now i found on HunoPPC site, that he also trying to port it, and have the same problem as i am before (crashing on level loading), dunno can he fix that or not. Let's hope that yes :) Game more or less "ok", but of course not fast. With everything off, 640x480 it give about 15-20fps on my peg2 with 1ghz of cpu.

EDIT: checked Palomino sources : it have data/shaders directory, in which many "glsl" files. That mean that game use shader language, which MiniGL do not have.

EDIT2: Fictional Air Combat looks pretty easy for brief look. Makefile are nice, only GL/GLU and SDL. Imho that one very possible and should be pretty easy to port (not at home, can't try).

Yes, i talk about the same. Imho, asl can "return" just choicen file format, and coder works with it. It's just can return string data like ".xyz", and coder just parse that return.

But, if Rigo say that is not amigaos way, then something make me think, that we will never improve ASL for more easy usage, and all our wordpocessors, image editors, and maybe future video-converting toolz and alt will still use the same ulgy old-way :) (that all imho of course).

Sorry, not so good understand what you mean. Did you mean i need write my own "asl like" requester ? Or i can somehow modify current one and add what i need already, with current ASL ?

It can be not default, just as option for coder , like some ASL hook, to add dropdown menu with file formats. I.e. all who want can use it, other ones can not use it at all and ASL will be just the same as before.

For example right now i want to add to LodePaint "save as" with ASL. But i can save in many different formats. So, i need spawn one more window , with filename formats for choice, and only after - ASL. Looks a bit long and annoy imho. If ASL will have possibility to add one more gadget, where user can choice in which format do saving - it will looks imho much friendly. Maybe not classic amiga way, but better anyway (imho).

IMHO a programmer should never only rely file extension in his programs.


Well, that is not so important as first suggestion (dropdown menu with file name format choice). Because when you press save in any editor, which mean saving in different formats, then you still need to choice file format in any case.

For example will be nice to have in ASL requester a feature, which allow to coders create one more gadget string or dropdown menu, in requester window, where user can choice format for saving (for example) and return to coder that file format value. For users it will looks like: user choice path for saving in program which want to save files in more than one format, press format button/or choice it in dropdown menu, and press save. So, program can detect more easily what format are choicen, without parsing the full string. It also will give user a list of all possible format for saving for that program. Imho will be very usable for Text editors which can save more than in one format, image editors, music editors and video editors.

In other words, some kind as on all modern oses: dropdown menu, or gadget buttons for choicing the file format for saving.

The other good feature for ASL can be (can be also used or not used by coder): automatic put of file format. I.e. user press Save, and coder for example add to ASL
ASLM_SaveFormat, ".jpg". And in requester, user have
".jpg" all the time at end of file name, and that ".jpg" can't be remove from string, only add filename for it. That will solve all that problem when user think "need add file format for file manually, or not".

Imho both features are important and will give users and coders more easy and friendly usage of ASL.

Sources looks not so hard. All on C, only 3 files on assembler:
anim, pt7 and unpack. But for initial port that can be removed easyly, and if programm will make sense add later C replacement (because pretty old and retro).

Icon for lodepaint looks very nice :) You do little typo in the name, call it "LoadPaint", but its "LodePaint", but that not so matter of course, icon are nice, thanks ) Imho the best one from full archive :) Will be cool if you can also make a skin for it.

Btw, how can i convert aos4 icon format, to PNG icon ? (want to send that icon to main author of lodepaint). I tryed png2icon utility, and looks like it can only convert in one way.

Same from me about win98 improving. Almost the same, and in the same way make no sense. Better spend that energy on os4/mos/aros, that is something which really in developing, and can give you something modern. For now also we have no problems with hardware for any of that 3 oses.

It is possible by ASL add that ? (i mean automatically format for file for saving) ? I for first think that maybe will need create a markable gadget on first window, where you can choice - automatically add file format on saving stage, or type it manually

The problem there because for save the files, you need choice image format (png/jpg/etc). With original Save requester, you have clikable gadget at bottom, where you can choice format in which you want to save file. With ASL requester its not possible to choice (you can't add one more gadget string to Asl requester, where you can choice file type for). In that terms ASL requester suck very much.

I see for now only one solution: After user press SaveAs - bring reaction or mui window with list of available image formats for saving, then, bring asl requester. Or for first bring asl, then window with avail formats. But that will be 2 windowses (for now its only one, even if its a bit slow). Dunno how will be better ..

Maybe anyone have any ideas how it should be organized ?

New version in upload query. Just add ASL requester for file loading (with saving the position, so when you will exit from programm, and run it again, last direcotry from which you load it will be saved).

Save As for now are original one, because our ASL have no possible to create one more gadget in requester where you can choice type of file for saving. So, looks like need to create 2 windowses : one with choicing image format type, and next one - asl. But imho it will make no big sense to have 2 windowses, except one original one ?

Anyway, for now loading are nice. Thanks to Fab for help about C coding :)

Already implement ASL req to LodePaint (for now for open only, and need to add "save position" for browsing), but it already load files and grab name from asl requester. Check that screenshot.
