As trixie say, we of course want to make ASL slow, boring, unusable crap. No need all those comparies with anything. Everyone there want to have good, friendly and fast os. What and how do linux and windows, it's problems of linux and windows.

Trixie try to point for you and others about real live. About lazy users. About new blood and alt , which can give aos4 some popularity (maybe). But while some users will stack on that stuff like "learn os! you all lame !" - then it way to die.

Realisation of win, it's realisation of win. Trixie point (not one time) in that thread, that we not about change ASL to make it like on windows.

Btw, did you have amigaos4 yourself ? (because if not, then strange how you can say what is good or bad in ASL).

For now it can save in 5 formats (without any settings for): png, lpi, bmp, tga and now jpg. First 4 save-formats managed by main programm itself, and jpg saving over jpeg plugin => than mean if no plugins loaded - we have 4 formats for save, if plugin loaded - 5. But i think selector-gui must be not hardcoded, but with some "input" fields like name of button, text for buttons and alt (to make easy to expand it by new formats, or remove unused ones, without broken the design of selector gui).

Maybe it will be a bit annoing because if we will have more than 5 file formats (and we will in end), then whole window will looks too big and not so "cool". Maybe need to create it like "3 or 4 or 5 file type buttons in one row". And if count is not qual to make all bound the same, then just recalcualte size of last buttons to make it good looking. Like that:



It that case window always will be good by size, bounds and good looking.

Author add yesterday save-jpg support to jpeg plugin. For now it have no slider for change quality, and default are 80%. Will upload new plugin with new version in next few days.

One more time agree with you and with every word. Does not matter how "amiiiigaaa" that and that. Matter usability of OS for end users. Because if no new blood will be there, then OS will die. But saying for new blood "learn that and that, because its amiga", you will have only one answer "then put your amiga right in your ass". Because that "amiggiiigaaaa" fanatism, only make sense for some old-almost-die amiga users, who just do not want any progress (even if that progress a bit in the past anyway).

Of course, why not :) Adding format gadget button not mean removing filtering at all :)

One more think which a bit annoy me in current ASL, its that sometime i can create directoryes by menu which spawns when i press right mouse button, but sometimes that menu just do not have that items. Maybe it because it about load/save differences, but looks a bit strange.

I checked , and yes, for now saving of jpg are not possible. Main author say that will add that soon.

But yes, i noticed the same strange problems with load/saveas from time to time, and it also the same - system lockup. Will try to found where is problems ..

If i remember right, by default only decoding of jpegs, and not encoding. But if i again remember right (can't check it myself for now), when you use jpeg2000 plugin, then it can save as well (but not sure, need to check).

About bug - yes, i sometime notice that bug too. But i also have compilte freeze, and dunno how detect where bug is it. Maybe you can attach serial cable and check what happenes ? I will try to reproduce it by your step, and if the same will be for me, then it will be easer for check.

Are you sure about not working cropping ? You just choice any area, then press "del" on keyboard or in menu "cut". Maybe you use very-old version ? If you will show exactly (step by step) how to reproduce that, then it will be fixed.

Users will loose nothing, and none of programs will works in different. Just that ones which want to _save_ more than in one file format, will have new functional field in ASL requester, which will allow to choice in which file-format need to save a file (that will solve all problems for video-convert-editing toolz, music editor, words-processors, image editors and alt). Because as it for now, coders need to create 2-step solutions, like bring window with file-format selection, and then ASL requester. That long, and unproductive.

Of course. As i point before, coder should have ability to put any text to it, not only file extensions.

Ok, there is how i think it should looks like when user press "save as" in programm which mean saving in more than 1 file format:




From coder side, to make that dropdown formats menu works, code can passed to ASL like that (imho pretty easy):



So, when user will use ASLM_FileReqSaveList, then, ASl req will for first create that dropdown menu, and for second will return value with the number of the string, from strings buffer.

Then coder can use it as he want.

+ I also think that will be cool to have ability, to add Mark Button, for "add file extension automatically to a file". It can be added or only when ASLM_FileReqSaveList are used, or just in any case for Save abitlity. Just because it always was a bit not understanable for new users (and for old ones too) , how programm will save file rigjht now, with extension , or without.

Imho first suggestion are not about ASL. It's just about how workbechn display the Fonts. What you dislike - it's imho about not avail options in font rendering on OS itself. ASL (imho) have no any code about Fonts in it. And (imho again), that is really last from all suggestions which can make sense.

Some ppls like when font strong, without shadow and all the crap. Other ones are like shadow and such. But it's not about ASL, it's about workbechn itself, and font preferences.

About "save":

Yeah, i will make 2step solution for now, but just in high interest and hope, that you will re-address that suggestion (for making Save file requester allow to add hook with file types), because you as os4 developer of course have better contact with asl author (or, maybe you will add that yourself when will have some free time :) ). Imho from even my suck programming opinion, it should be not so hard to expand Save-file-requester part.

Yes, if you can, write plz Gui selector, it will be good to have SaveAs in amiga way too.

ps. can you start plz new topic about ASL, where we can summarize all the suggestions and Rigo can send them for the main ASL programmer (i am lost a bit in it).

Dunno, never use AmiUpdate.. But all that updates usually not only changing of exe only, but all those plugins , directory layot and alt. Imho will be a bit boring for AmiUpdate.
