Re: Internet playlist strange behaviour

@Raziel

No it seems you have to close TuneNet once you launch it a first time with the stream. In other words it does not play another playlist after a first one (it is via Aweb)

Internet playlist strange behaviour
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

Using the website Jamendo : site to legaly freely download music (Creative Commons), I often click on link to listen to album. i've configured AWeb to launch Tunenet for m3u playlists.
The link is supposed to let me listen to the whole album, however when I there, the playlist is opened and play starts.
*But* Tunenet won't switch to next track when the current is finished, it will stop here. Also using the 'next' button (one with symbol like >| ) it will jump to the *last* entry instead of the next.

Can someone explain me if i'm doing something wrong or if this is a bug in TuneNet ?

If you want to try, for example, connect to : Dawn From The Past : Secrets In My Head a french Rock band page on Jamendo, then click on "Listen to the entire album".

@Belxjander

Quote:
there is *nothing* stopping a program asking exec nicely to walk *all* virtual memory spaces as "read-only" to find strings...

I don't agree here, even ability to "read-only" is a security hole. just imagine I'm a malware program, I'll then ask read permission for the whole memory space and will snoop for YAM or SimpleMail signature, then I'll be able to retreive all your email accounts with usernames *and* passwords Thus i'll then be able to impersonate you on the network easily, "just" with this "innocent read-only" permission
So in a MP system, each process can only see its own memory space except for memory spaces other processes *explicitly* tagged as public (or shared).

@tonyw

Of course, such things are automatically dealt with by the kernel, not by application writers !

@LiveForIt

Using for example the MMU you can remap each memory page used by the process.
Thus this can 'fool' the process thinking it's accessing 0x00000000 whereas in fact it's accessing 0xDEADBEEF.

Re: The Memory Protection Debacle

@Raziel

You are partially wrong here : generaly (not speaking about AOS4 here) memory protection comes with (="is implemented using") separated virtual memory space, that means that each task has it's own memory address space, thinking it's the only task running on the computer, then each used virtual memory page is mapped to a free physical page.
Telling this, you generally aren't able to snoop into other's tasks memory space on those systems (being for reading or writing) as if you are trying to access address 0xdeadbeef on task 1 you won't end in the same physical address than via address 0xdeadbeef on task 2...

Now speaking of AOS4, (current, as in AOS4 final) memory protection is implemented via two mechanisms (OS4 devs correct me if I'm wrong) :
- access to page '0' (i.e. via a null pointer) is catched and does not lead to a whole system crash
- tasks can have memory space protected against writing by other tasks (here some spaces are protected automatically by the compiler and/or system (for example constants, some code region, etc.), and other can be protected at allocation time by the programmer if he knows that this sapec won't be used by other tasks).

Hope that would have helped you both.

I don't know how the MacOSX version works, but it should be the same as you did to configure it for your email address.... Else you can edit the ini file...

@AmiGame

No need to do that. In DNetC you go to the preference and change the order of the engine to start.
Mine is OGR then RC5 this tells the client to do OGR until it does not have anymore to do locally, then it will do RC5.
As I'm always online it is never out of OGR keys to crunch, so I'm never doing RC5

@Elwood

Thank you for this list but I was instead looking for SCSI cards names/models that are reported to work. I can have one but I want to be sure it will be of any use.

@TetiSoft

May be I should not jump into this because I'm not behind keisangi or more exactly the way he's expressing itself.
However about multiuser support I should say i would not be against that. Something that would permit me to have different settings/environment (i.e. : personnal ENVARC:, personnal user-startup such things) the "real user" thing is not needed in first place.
Sometimes ago using OS3.0 and muFS I was able to setup something like this, by the use of multiassigns (for S: ENVARC: etc.) and some startup scripts I managed to have a system which could be used by my two brothers and me each having its own system configuration, without the fear to delete/overwrite someone else things.
That's all what I would like to have: filesystem with user/group rights enabling *some sort of* security and system support for configuration by user (could be easily achieved by adding the a specific HOME: autoassign by user which could contain a C, S, ENV-Archive drawers automatically added respectively to C:, S: and ENV-ARC:).

Nonetheless OS4 is way better than my OS3.9 on my 1200PPC, thank you all.

@Severin

In fact you can, all you have to do is to find a Jabber server that provide the IRC gateway. I don't think there are so many out there, but you can access IRC using Jabber client.

IntuitionBase ??

Ok I think i've waited long enough to say that's not a temporary problem. Anyone else noticed that IntuitionBase gone belly since almost the begining of the week ? All I get here is a blank page, any information ?
If that's a problem with web hosting fees I think at least databases are valuable and should not be lost, if Ryu (i think it's the one in charge of IB.com) wants to stop the web site, someone has to step forward and backup its databases, if no one wish to do it I may end up hosting the database myself (if Ryu is Ok to hand over them of course !)

@Hans

I think it's showing its age because its graphics wasn't updated to use Reaction, that's all.

@Rogue & tfrieden

Thank you for this clarification, especially the StackSwap() is really a "need to know" especially when porting old AOS softs. BTW is the $STACK cookie still ok ?

Also it's sad SDK is delayed further, because it's a long time now since it's been last updated Even a small update with new include and autodocs at least for Final would be good.

EDIT: typo

Let me know if/when you need updated french catalog. I'm not an IRC guy so I don't use WookieChat on a regular basis and I don't follow every beta you release.

Re: AmigaOne SCSI

@all

Is there a list of LSI cards that would work using the actual SCSI driver ?
I can have a DC-310/310U (chipset 53C810AE), is it supposed to work with the actual driver ? My girlfriend would be more than happy to be able to use the old scanner we have at home...
it would be really usefull to have intuitionbase updated and upgraded (the hardware db is rather difficult to search into, a software like interface would be more than welcomed (i.e. an alphabetical sorted list at least)
