For a basic check to see if eth3com.device can be opened, download SanaUtil from Aminet, and run it in a shell as follows:

SANAUtil DEVICE eth3com.device STATUS

BTW, I thought that the A1-SE couldn't use USB cards, or is that only the XE?

I tried following the same process on the A1 as I had with the A1200's and the result is the machine boots but no internet. I tried running "wirelessmanger prism2.device" from the Shell and it just sat there.

I assume this was an attempt to use WEP mode, and you set your router to WEP mode during this experiment. But if you want more information from WirelessManager, use the VERBOSE option.

I did try the card in a Win XP system which installed it fine, it would not however connect to my network, it didn't even see it! So i'm guessing this card will need flashing.

No need to guess. The Windows reflashing utility will tell you the current firmware (which also tells you the letters that your firmware files need to start with).

The manual inside the Prism2v2 LHA doesn't mention where or how your flash the card.

Lies! It includes this paragraph:

"Instructions on reflashing the firmware, and the required firmware files, can be found at http://linux.junsun.net/intersil-prism/"

Still no WPA2, but WPA support is welcome.

Adding WPA2 should be reasonably straightforward, as it can be done in hardware.

However, it looks like it's still a SANA-II driver, and thus there's still no proper wireless stack. Still, a working SANA-II driver is much better than nothing.

What would it need to be "proper"? The included WirelessManager is a port of wpa_supplicant, and this component handles scanning, association, setting up of encryption, and other management functions. It has the advantage that it should in theory work with all existing TCP/IP stacks. Enabling enterprise features is probably just a matter of linking with necessary libraries such as SSL.

@Chris

I'm just curious, did you consider using the GTK-MUI wrapper in order to be able to use the existing GTK GUI? Would this not be more straight-forward than writing a completely new GUI?
