Re: TuneNet Testing (V86.66)

@Tuxedo

Hi,

You'll have to wait for the upgrade, it's included as part of it. Still I hope you'll find it worth waiting for. Most of the internals have been rewritten and it's many times more stable in use and playback.

I'll see if I can release a screen grab or two.

Cheers,
Bean.

@afxgroup

I tried some example SWF files consisting of slide shows, text and some with keyboard entry and it all worked rather well.

I haven't tried movie playback yet.

Good work!

I've no idea!

But there are a few things that require general release before I can fully release.

@nexus

Hi,

This has been fixed in the V0.90 release, along with a whole host of other squashed bugs. (It also sports an updated Reaction GUI as well).

However, I can't release it just yet due to a few dependency issues.... If push comes to shove, I'll start back porting the fixes to the V86 release, but hopefully it'll release soonish.

Cheers,
Bean.

Re: How to get the best quality sound out of Tunenet?
Not too shy to talk

@jahc

Hi Jahc,

I use AHI Device mode 0. You will not require a restart to swap audio modes!

I use 44.1Khz as the base frequency in the Play/Rec tab (within TuneNet).

On the AHI prefs from Workbench I have set the "Device 0" to be a "Stereo++ HiFi mode" with 16 channels at 44.1Khz I think (Max Volume setting on there as well)

The next version of TuneNet removes incorrect handling of replay gain when using the LibMad mpega library. This makes things sound louder.

Also the last beta version of TuneNet V0.86.66 on the TuneNet download page includes a volume boost over previous versions.

(If most of your MP3's are mostly at 48Khz, then change all the above to 48Khz to get the best sound mixing)

What seems to be the problem with the sound exactly?

Cheers,
Bean.

Many Thanks, I've now fixed this in the latest internal version (V0.90). Thanks for the good bug report at OS4 depot.

I can't say when the next version will be released..... just yet...... But I can say the Reaction GUI has been given a make over ..and stability has been much improved / a lot of bugs have been squashed

@ChrisH

I'm still using FFS, but I need to switch. I've had two scary moments in the last few weeks (yes I have backups), but partition wizard (included with the OS) sorted things out after a bit of playing around.

I'm wanting to make the switch to JXFS or SFS, but have never had the confidence to move over. With the problems I've had in the last couple of weeks I think it's now time to switch.. .. but to which one!

Bean.

@jahc

I use a 22.5'' BenQ monitor @ 1920x1080 which has both HDMI (for my PS3 - true 1080P) and standard VGA and DVI inputs (for my PC / Amiga).

It looks/works great, nothing is squashed and it is great for programming, as you have so much space to work with. It was surprisingly cheap as well. The only downside were the speakers - they redefine the word "naff"!

@Thematic

It appears that the gain information isn't actually present in most cases. It's the mpega.library that is broken!

As mentioned above; TuneNet will be using mode 1 (medium qual), instead of 2 by default from the next release. What I really need to know is if there is also a drop in quality from 2 to 1 in the libmad version. It certainly sounds OK to my ears.

Bean

@number6

TuneNet's MP3 plugin actually solves the recognition problems in the mpega.library by decoding a few random frames during the validity checks. It's not perfect but it's done OK up till now.

Cheers,
Bean.

@jahc

Hey Jahc,

Competition is always good, keeps me on my toes! But I appreciate the compliments!

TuneNet is undergoing a lot of changes at the moment, the only problem is my time is limited, but the core system is much much easier to maintain these days making changes/enhancements quicker to implement:

(in my opinion!)

The red areas need to be hidden or removed while the skinned interface is displayed, as this information is already displayed there.. and it takes up room.. also it looks like two seperate programs almost,with the duplication of information.. is there a Reaction equivalent of MUIA_ShowMe?

I see what you are saying, when you bring up a Reaction playlist from a skinned interface the additional info should be hidden. Consider that on the list.

Quote:
The green area could be improved upon in some way, but I dont know how. Functionally, its a great way to switch between the different modes though. But it takes up space, and might be a little untidy.. there might be a better way to do this, or that might be the best way already... I dont know, this is a grey area for me. :)

I'm always open to suggestions, but I don't always have the answers - any ideas anyone?

Quote:
Also, the playlist window is unable to resized to a smaller/small/tiny size right now. I think it might be the weight calculations due to the red areas being displayed?

I think you are right here, doing the 1st item you suggested (reduced info if in playlist mode) may fix this.

Keep up the good work. It's a fine program!

Thanks, more to come :)

I've had it running for a couple of days at medium quality, and it certainly doesn't sound any worse. In fact because of the volume levels it sounds much better!! I'll make the option configurable at any rate.

Switching to Medium quality appears to fix a lot of issues with the library thankfully. The next release of the MP3 plugin for TuneNet will have that setting enabled by default.

mpega.library
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi,

The mpega library on OS4 depot that has the Lib Mad source mixed in appears to be a little broken:

A couple of things I've noticed:

1/ The volume gain detection or application appears to be broken. For some audio files it is mistakenly lowering the volume far too much. After investigating I'm convinced this is a code error (perhaps mistakenly picking up tags/bytes it thinks are replay tags).

2/ Disabling the volume gain detection can be achived by lowering the quality control in the MPEGA CTRL, which gives you much better volume, but I'm not 100% sure if the overall quality is affected. It would be good if someone could investigate. (The next version of TuneNet will allow you to set this parameter on the MP3 plugin if you use this version of the library).

3/ The source code really needs updating, especially for OS4, some of the code around the library appears a little chaotic, with assembler includes that don't appear to be available anywhere.

4/ The latest LibMad source might be worth including.

Does anyone fancy taking this on? .. or know the current maintainer?

I'm flat out on other things concerning TuneNet at the moment, so I'm hopeful someone might want to take this on!

Cheers,
Bean.
