Calibrating CPUTemp.docky
Amigans Defender
Amigans Defender

I'm wondering what it would take to calibrate the CPUTemp.docky.

I have access to a calibrated temperature probe (Fluke) that I could use to measure the exact temperature of the heat sink or similar.

If I take a few measurements with the probe and peek at CPUTemp.docky a few times perhaps I can come up with a meaningful difference. I just hope the relationship is linear.

Would this be enough to get it at least roughly (i.e. +/- 5C) calibrated?

I don't understand the logic behind it.

There are arguments both ways but in the end it will be a management decision and management decisions rarely, if ever, make any logical sense from my experience. Therefore, I guess they will be sold bundled just because that makes the least amount of sense.

Let's just wait and see what happens. No point in getting all excited until product is actually shipping.

@lazi
Hot plugging of ps/2 devices is very dangerous and you could zap something. Never do that. USB is designed for hot plugging but not ps/2, parallel, serial, etc. so never do that.

That said, there are KVM switches available which can safely switch ps/2 ports because they include proper circuitry to protect the motherboard.

With a KVM (I'm using an active one) I am able to switch between three A1 machines without any issues.

@acefnq
Connect up the serial port to another computer and cut & paste what is happening to here and we may be able to be more specific. With serial output you can see if your memory is faulty or the gfx card is faulty or whatever. Without it you are totally blind if the gfx card is not being initialized.

Otherwise, you can just try removing the battery for say 15 mins, remove the power cable from the case and wait 15 minutes, then connect everything together again and see if that helps.

It may also be the gfx card has become loose or similar as well so press down on everything (use an ESD wrist strap to ground yourself first) and see if that helps.

I doubt your flash chip with uboot on it is faulty unless you've been messing with it.

I suppose to stay on topic I had better archive my mouse pointers and upload them somewhere now.

We all need to vent once in a while. No harm done.

I look forward to seeing the pointers. This new 32 bit pointer feature is kinda growing on me.

stupid question but why isn't this set as default in the tooltypes? if this is better/faster in general?

Sometimes backwards compatibility and fear of big balls of mud software (e.g. Workbench) make such decisions for us.

can i set this somewhere as default? it's not nice to add this every time when typing the copy command.

See the "Alias" command documentation.

I don't think Samwel is a troll but I think he forgot how to use the donate button on Richard's web site to ask that question. When you use PayPal it gives you a little box where you can send a message to the receiver. (hint hint)

Here is a link for those that missed it and note the PayPal donate button on the left hand side:

I made a post on AW about this exact problem that I'm having with my A1XE with a 750FX and its not DHCP from a router, but DHCP from a SuSE 10.2 linux box.

I still don't think this is a h/w problem but I do think certain h/w configurations cause it to show up more often than others.

The whole duplicate DNS entry thing is a very good clue I think...

I wonder if Troika will keep the name 'Amy' in the end. I imagine they'll drop the 05 bit for obvious reasons. I'd prefer "Amy 5000" myself.

It appears ONLY to affect the MicroA1 and possibly only GX processors...

I have a GX as well and no such freezing has been observed here.

I'll have to chat with you in the beta channel about this and maybe we can figure out what is different between our machines and maybe narrow the problem down.

Setting up an A1 for DHCP is extremely easy but when I do it my A1 Hard freezes either during bootup or shortly after.

I don't suspect it is any sort of h/w problem. I think it is more likely to be something to do with DHCP clobbering things when it receives certain packets. With my router it does not freeze but with other routers it does. If only we could get debug info. from the users having problems. Especially tcpdump and adding DEBUG to the interface so the packets can be inspected. A sniffer would be ideal of course.

So it sounds like a Micro specific problem and it appears to be something that was introduced with final. I had no issues with Update 4.

Well I have two MicroA1-C systems (GX and FX) and they both work without any lockups or lost connections.
