Re: Configuring YAM
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

@PEB

Something like WBRun should work as a default viewer, I know I used to use DOpusDoubleClick to run the Magellan filetype settings. However for what you want you do not need to do this.

using Multiview for your default is the best but if you want images to use picshow then that is easy.

In YAM's MIME Config Add a new Mime type and call it "image/*" which will then be used for all images.

Leave File Extensions and Description blank.

Then for viewer enter the path of Picshow followed by %s.

All images will be then shown using picshow instead of multiview.

Who cares.

Amiga Inc have signed up some guy no one has ever heard of before yesterday. They seem to do this all the time and still never have any real products to sell.

Basically just more McEwen BS. A non event.

What planet do you live on, ever heard of EARTH ?

It is nice to wear rise tinted glasses and when possible think the best of your fellow human beings but a company that resorts to suing everyone they have ever dealt with can hardly have "good intentions".

Are you sure it is just coffee in that cup and not something a little bit dodgy?

For a moment I thought you were meaning me and just got my name wrong ! Because if anything I lean rather heavily to the Hyperion side in this matter. I was rather puzzled but my surname *is* often mistaken for Evans.

I didn't realise that the "Tigger" bloke on AWN had such a similar name to me until I checked his profile just.

Just to make clear:

Bill Evans aka Tigger != Bill Eaves aka BillE

I'm too busy writing software to run on OS4 to want Hyperion to lose and have to start from scratch.

Bill Eaves.

Want to bet !

Have a look at http://www.digitaluniverse.org.uk/amigastar.png

This demonstrates DU's ability for a user to add recent supernovae or other fixed position objects.

Of course unless Bill McEwen coughs up the dosh then the new star will have to be removed

You've ALMOST made me drag out the 10" Newtonian and give it a clean up.

Mine is packed away for the summer, I am so far north it never gets dark at all this time of year.

I want to keep the mirror nice, the last one for some reason would never keep its coating and very soon after re-aluminising it would end up with holes in the surface. It still gave surprisingly good images though.

At least the newone is shiny and reflective. It is a bit shorter f/ratio too which meant I could make the whole thing smaller and more portable.

But I always promised myself that I wouldn't get back into astronomy until I could finish figuring the 15" mirror.

Wow. And I thought my 10" scope was big enough. And you make your own mirrors too ? I built all my mountings but leave the mirror to the experts.

What CCD cameras are recommended these days?

No idea but I can guarantee they will not work with the Amiga without a lot of hassle.

I did write a processing application once for an old Starlight Express camera, not that I owned one but took some pics in Portugal using one. The A1200 made a better job creating the images from the raw data than the original PC software did

Sadly as it was written in HiSoft Basic it will not work on OS4

One day I may convert it to C with a MUI interface. Assuming that SX camera is still available, it was a while ago.

Another alternative is, if you have AmiAtlas click on the place where you live and it will give you the Lat and Longitude.

Or even find it on a real map made of paper

Hey you could have tried to keep on topic, for instance by mentioning that Sirius, Bellatrix etc are the names of real stars that you can find in DU !

The missus got her copy the other day so I will have to wait until she has read it first

Dune fans will also find quite a few stars that have been used as planetary names in that series of novels too.

@amipal

The input looks the normal way for inputting such data as Lat and Long are usually given in Degrees, minutes and seconds.

Are the ones you have fractional ?

eg 5.5 degrees will equal 5d 30m 00s

It is exactly the same conversion you would use to convert a time expressed as .xxx hours to hours minutes and seconds.

Start of shameless plug.
If a lot of division by 60 seems to tedious the calculator HP11C at http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... lity/scientific/hp11c.lha has a couple of buttons to do it for you. f 2 will convert a decimal time or angle to HMS or DMS and g 2 will convert HMS or DMS to a decimal time/angle.
End of shameless plug

Oh I nearly forgot:

50.83 -> 50:49:48 - a plus value means North
-0.3 -> 00:18:00 - the minus sign means East.

Bill

PS. Where on earth did you manage to find your Lat and Long as a decimal fraction of degrees, it is not the usual format ?

Asteroid number 2309 does have the official name Mr. Spock !

It was apparently named after the discoverer's cat which was named after the character from Star Trek.

I had hoped this would have been fixed in the update. I remember reading that it had been fixed already and would be in the "next" update. A pity as this has been forgotten as it does make the Zip drive rather useless when you cannot write to it.

Thanks for setting this forum up.

The first real posting will be the news when the final full 1.5 version is available.

Until then I can always answer questions about the 68k 1.03 version and the recently released demo version of the OS4 native 1.5.

Re: Image FX4.5

@AJS

Thanks for the info on *where* to get an update.

However, I can find nowhere telling me what I am going to get for my ?20 which is rather a lot of dosh just for an update.

Is it PPC native for OS4 or is it still only a 68k application ?

Given that I only use IFX for very basic manipulating and resizing images, I am not a graphic artist so must use only a fraction of Image FX, what is new from v4.1 to 4.5. If it is stuff I may never use then I may as well stick with 4.1.

I want someone to persuade me to part with the cash and update by telling me what is new in v4.5 compared to 4.1, what am I missing ?

An OS4 native version would swing it immediately even if nothing else was different

@Severin and all.

It seems some updates have occured since I bought Image FX. The one I bought is only v4.1.

Does anyone know what the differences are between v4.1 (which works on OS4 fine) and 4.5 are and:

a) Is it possible to update to v4.5 from v4.1 ?

b) Is it worth it or are the differences too negligible to bother ?

At least Hyperion and Eyetech *did* something for the Amiga - unlike Amiga Inc.

I bought a SCSI card long before OS4 arrived etc. I hardly used it except to try out an old SCSI CD drive to see if it worked. It did BTW.

I never used it since, I was wanting to use it for my UMAX scanner. It was not drivers that put me off but the incompatible cables for the plethora of SCSI sockets. The cables or adaptors would cost more than the SCSI card did and I never got around to trying to wire my own like I would have done in the old days.

Now we have USB and digital cmameras I wonder if getting the scanner to work again is worth it.

If you are really desperate for a SCSI card that will work in the A1, then I have one I will probably never get around to using. Finding a cable to fit your scanner to it may be a bit problematic however.
