@tommysammy

Thanks. I'll try that, assuming I can find a machine running OS 3.9.

Can anyone tell me how to install Turboprint 7 on my Sam without a floppy drive?

I have a printer connected to a Linux box runnig cups. I have been unable to print to this printer using Olaf Barthel's lpr.device. I get an error message that says "Cannot connect socket (connection refused)" Has anyone succesfully printed to a printer on another machine on the network?

Re: Roadshow

@all
This is my first post from my Sam. I was able to connect after replacing my hub with a router, as suggested by Olsen. The post from sundown reassured me that I wasn't going crazy. My computer guru, who is definitely not an Amiga lover thought I was crazy. I took Cyborg's advice and started over with the New Connection procedure. I still have some configuration issues, which I think getting to know more about my router will clear up. To Snuffy I recommend getting a router. I bought a Linksys Cable/DSL Router, Model No. BEFSR81. Lastly, I thank Slayer for helping me out in the beginning. Scott Woodall's comments were also helpful. Thanks to everyone.

@Snuffy

Did you get a router as Olsen suggested? I will be disappointed to learn that you did and still can't access AT&T DSL. I'm supposed to take delivery of a gateway router today.

@swoodall

I recently used that port to hook another machine to my LAN (it's been removed, now) but it's worth looking into. Thanks.

@Slayer

I have made a breakthrough thanks to your suggestion and that of OldAmigan (Bet you're not as old as I am ). If I plug my Sam directly into my DSL modem, it connects. Hopefully, per Olsen's advice to Snuffy, a gateway router will solve my problem. I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, I appreciate the help I have received from everyone who has contributed to this thread,

@OldAmigan

I have lots of cables stuck in a hub. Changing them around is a big hassle. The cable connected to my Sam was connected to an old iMac within the last two months and worked fine, then.

@swoodall

The only thing I can ping is localhost.
The results of shownetstatus interface ppc440ep_eth is in line with yours except
MTU = 1518
Packets sent = 0
Packets received = 0
Unknown packets = 0
Numbeer of write I/O requests = 32 maximum of 2 used at a time, 0 are still pending
Number of bytes received - 0
Number of bytes sent = 56
Transfer statistics (in/out) = DMA:0/0 Byte:0/2 Word:=/0

Do you see anything there?

Re: Roadshow

@Cyborg

I had already tried the procedure you mapped out, but I did it again, following your instructions, but to no avail. When I tried to ping a site on the internet, I got the message, "host name lookup failure." If I tried to ping my linux box, I got the message,
"wrote 192.168.2.50 64 chars ret=-1
send to: Host is down"

I think it is a routing problem. I am familiar with the route in the *nix world but I haven't mastered RoadShow's addnetroute and deletenetroute..

We were in Samoa in October for the first time in almost 40 years. It has changed a lot but is still paradise.
I am away from my Sam for the weekend so haven't had a chance to try the settings you sent. Will keep you posted.

I am at work now but will check out your latest posting when I get home. Hopefully, a light will go off and I will see the error of my ways.

BTW my wife and I taught in the Peace Corps in Samoa 40 years ago with Kiwis who became our friends. We visited your beautiful country once.

@Slayer

I appreciate your helpfulness. I,too, figured all I would have to do would be to assign the Sam an IP number in the network and set the gateway and I would be off and running. My A1 is dead so I can't look at its set up to see how I got it online. If you could look at your setup. maybe that will solve my problem.
