Re: AmigaRacer no-longer updatable - amigatec.com is down

@ChrisH

Apparently Amiga Racer uses assets and source code from other games

https://twitter.com/AmigaTec_Inc/status/838159910231764992

(see comment below post)

So I guess Amiga Racer isn't available to download anymore because of that.

@Raziel

Really dumb advice, but try removing/renaming minigl.library and mglut.library from libs, assuming Nova and Opengles don't rely on them.

minigl (as of now) is for the old Warp3D, maybe it somehow intervenes Nova and GLES from being detected by programs with your particular card?

If the Amiga 500 keyboard will work as a normal HID keyboard via USB then I'm really interested

These would be so cool with the upcoming black A500 replacement cases and Tabor

@MamePPCA1

If your phone can't even see the X5000

(only charging, does not show connection options e.g. PTP or USB Mass Storage mode)

Then maybe it is the cable, most USB phone cables I own don't have the data pins, only voltage so they can only charge with it and not communicate with the host machine.

Try out other cables if you have them or try them out on a PC to be sure.

@amigakit

That is great, but does that mean that this commissioned version will only appear in the enhancer pack and not Hyperion's AmigaOS updates?

Not a X5000 owner, merely curious

Heck, I even own the enhancer pack, so no drama seeking here ;)

About WarpOS

Some background If you are unaware of WarpOS

In the mid to late 90's, PowerPC accelerator cards started to appear for the old Amigas.

But AmigaOS 4 did not exist yet, AmigaOS was still 68k only.

So for programs to use the PowerPC cpu, a second PowerPC kernel/OS ran alongside AmigaOS, WarpOS is one of them.

Alot of games in the late 90's are written for WarpOS.

How to install rewarp

You download the archive from Aminet

In the archive there is a folder named "libs" and inside are two files called

"powerpc.library" and "Warp3DPPC.library"

Resized Image

You need to copy those two files to the "libs" drawer in the harddrive where you installed AmigaOS.

If you can't find the libs drawer in your AmigaOS harddrive then press the right Amiga key and plus to show hidden drawers.

Resized Image

Now you have installed rewarp.

Rewarp automatically works when you run a WarpOS program, so you don't have to do anything.

to test rewarp, I recommend trying out the demo version of Payback which is a 3D GTA game with software rendering, really fun game.
http://aminet.net/game/demo/PaybackDemo.lha

"PaybackDemoWOS" is the WarpOS version.

I did some more poking around and found out that there are two official OS4 versions of Quake 2 from Hyperion.

The first one is from 2005 and it only supports software rendering.
http://www.amigaflame.com/amiqup1.htm

and an updated version from 2010
http://hol.abime.net/3915

at the bottom of that page it reads

Quote:
[5] In 2005, publisher Hyperion first released a native build of QUAKE II for AmigaOS 4.x. A substantially reworked AmigaOS 4.x update of QUAKE II, courtesy of Peter Gordon, was released in May 2010. Registered users of AmigaOS 4.x and QUAKE II may download it from their website HERE.

I am a registerd OS4 user with an account on Hyperion's website but I do not have access to that file.

Unfortunately it seems like it is a patch for the commercial 2002 WarpOS port. So you need to get ahold of the CD and register it to have access to the OS4 versions.

No idea where you can still buy that version of Quake 2.

If there exist a WarpOS version of Quake 2 with software rendering
then you could install ReWarp and try that version.

http://aminet.net/package/util/libs/ReWarp

ReWarp allows you to run WarpOS programs on AmigaOS4

Hyperion's official WarpOS version of Quake 2 supports software rendering but I think there is no demo version to download, so you have to find the CD.

@white

Could you share the link to the package on OS4depot?

I thought there was no port of Quake 2 on OS4 with software rendering.

I know only two ports for AmigaOS4

This port which states that there is no software renderer and has skipping/noisy audio
http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... &file=game/fps/quake2.lha

And a cool, high res texture, version of Quake 2 made by HunoPPC, but I doubt winuae has enough memory to run this version.
http://hunoppc.amiga-projects.net/con ... ved-rendering-hd-amigaos4

You could try to run one of these versions with Wazp3D, a wrapper which allows you to run Warp3D and minigl programs with software rendering.

What is the AmigaOne XE DMA fix?
Just popping in
Just popping in

Whenever I have a hardware compatibility problem with, for example, PCI cards

I'll almost always get asked if my AmigaOne has the DMA fix installed.

I'm fairly recent to the Amiga Scene, so I do not know what this fix does.

So, what does it do?

Where can I find this on the motherboard?

How can I install/uninstall it?

Is there a software "check" program to determine if this fix is installed?

Does any XE owner with 2GB ram working has this installed?

Do you recommend me to perform this fix?

Almost all info about this fix seems to have vanished from the internet
so I hope anyone here can inform me.

Do you have access to an XE and PEX adapter?

If you don't have a PEX adapter then I could donate you money to get yourself the same adapter.

Which I know does not warrent me to a working driver nor do I hold you accountable if it can't be fixed,
I'm just trying to improve the odds of getting the 7750 to work, I can't wait for tabor anymore.

Thank you for looking into this Hans.

If it makes any difference, the PEX8111 card will have "IO" and "Mem" if the 7750 isn't inserted.

I'd like to test other PCI Express cards with the adapter seeing if it will have those commands but the 7750 is the only card I have ATM.

@Hans

Also a minor curiosity,

If I boot without the startup-sequence via the early startup menu,
the 7750 will gain two seemlingly invalid I/O flags
(0xFFFFFFF8)
Resized Image

Which the card can keep after a warm reboot.

The 7750's audio device will also gain one I/O flag (same base/physical)
There is no other card which will gain flags.

I'm using the latest version with all Amiupdates from Hyperion
and UBoot 1.1.1 from March 3 2005.

I got off guard by the RadeonHD chip being in there but to reaffirm the bios check failed and my 7750 doesn't show up as a graphics board.

Here is the PEX8111 in Ranger

Quote:
If you do get the driver running, then you'll need to disable interrupts for the board. Ranger shows that the IRQ's line hasn't been set (it's 0xFF which is invalid).

Hmm, would I have to do that via UBoot preferences?

Yeah I noticed that on your blog!

VisionTek Radeon X1300 256MB PCI with a PEX8111 bridge chip!

So the PEX8111 used to work, maybe it is something specific with Southern Islands cards?

(On firefox that page displays the PEX8111 as a massive backdrop, but not on OWB)
