@JosDuchIt

comment out the username and password tooltypes for now. at least you should get to a window showing the Windows XP Login screen...can you try that?

@JosDuchIt

A couple other things you should verify:

1) on the Windows PC

Go to Start menu, select Run...

Type in winver then press enter. A Window should pop up. It should say Windows XP Professional. If it says "Home" edition then rdesktop won't work, period. There may be a 3rd party utility to get it to work, but I've not tested any.

2) Assuming you have Windows XP Professional, go into network connections, into the properties of your local area connection. Go into details and get the IP address of the Windows machine. Probably something like 192.168.x.x.

3) Still Assuming you have Windows XP Professional, go to your Amiga. Open a new shell. type in:

ping <ip address>

in my case it would be:

ping 192.168.1.5

You should get replies. If you don't, then you may have a firewall on the Windows side enabled that is blocking connections, and could be blocking incoming rdesktop connections from the Amiga.

Re: Write protected partitions with SCSI -> IDE Bridge

@mugo

I've had similar problems with an ACARD SCSI->IDE bridge, where sometimes in mediatoolbox it will detect it and say something like "NULL IDE BRIDGE".

But normally it works, however I have difficulty updating the RDB. It says write protected, or cannot write. I can format partitions, though.

Mediatoolbox is very picky about which devices it accepts unfortunately.

For USB devices, with Deneb, for example, on OS4 classic, you have to do some magic to get the usbscsi.device to work in mediatoolbox.

I've also had difficulty using SFS filesystem between OS 3.x and OS 4.0 classic. on OS4 it is not able to read the SFS partitions.

Sticking with FFS (DOS/07) is safer and seems to be more tolerant.

@amije

Right...but "Home" editions do not support incoming connections. Any version can use the rdesktop client, that is true, for outgoing connections.

@JosDuchIt

Windows XP Pro
Windows Vista Business or higher
Windows 7 Pro or higher (registered version)
Windows Servers (registered versions)

Windows XP and Vista and 7 home does not allow incoming remote connections (it's a microsoft limitation)

@Rigo

AmiUpdate would be useful to push out critical system fixes (such as quick fix update) fairly easy to end users.

But I guess it's also easy to download it from Hyperion's site :)

It's possible you have to press enter in the field to make sure it sticks. Try that.

I see no reason why they should not, however I have never tried them *together*.

Mediator or Prometheus they should work. :)

Re: Boot issues of OS 4.0 classic on A4k PPC

@Dandy

They are there because they work on other systems (eg. AmigaOne). Perhaps they should have been taken out of the OS4.0 classic ISO, yes you are right.

The bottom line is the PCI solutions for classic don't support DMA due to their own limitations. It's not an OS4 limitation, but a hardware/software limitation.

It's also not up to Hyperion to write ALL drivers. For these PCI solutions it would be nice (for example) if Elbox wrote some OS4 native drivers using their proprietary "dma" solution, then those cards may work on classics with OS4.

My advice is for you to ask Elbox to write proper OS4 PPC-native drivers for their Mediators.

If enough users request this maybe they will.

@gurus2000

Glad it's working... as I said I noticed that problem during beta testing and alot of tweaking was done to overcome it, but it still happened in rare situations...but disc-at-once seemed to fix it :)

Enjoy Update 1 :)

@tldaley

You have to install the png iconmodule from OS4Depot...

OS4 does not support PNG icons out-of-the-box.

You must have done it before :)

libs:IconModules - look in your backup.

We found this in beta testing.

My advice: re-burn your ISO, try a slower speed, different media, or "disc-at-once" instead of track-at-once".

Report back please.
