Re: Any GUI toolkits for Python?

@ChrisH

I think the only python gui toolkit available on OS4 is GTK+ 2.24 in the AmiCygnix Python 2.7 package included in Gimp or Gnumeric.

I don't know, if Android has GTK+, maybe you can us it for development.

I guess, that your archive file is corrupted. You should download it at os4-depot again!

@cha05e90

Unfortunately this port doesn't work.

There are much things missing including a driver for Webcams on OS4 for example.
Audio would be much easier, but I don't know, which kind of microphone could be used.
GStreamer is really a beast, which has it's own drivers and dependencies.

Discord Protocol? Does this mean we can do voice chat on the Amiga?

Audio and video support ist still not implemented in the Amicygnix version of Pidgin, sorry. So only the chat feature is available.
Audio / video needs "gstreamer", which is hard to port.

Super, there has been no new news in the Amicygnix topic for a very long time. Can I expect other programs to be updated in addition to Pigdin?

Yes, after getting my new X5000, development of AmiCygnix continues.
A new base package is under development, which fixes several bugs.
Also updates of the software packages are planned.

Fantastic news!

Two questions:

Do you have a link to allow for donations?

Can you include xterm in the next version?

Donations are still possible on my donation page on http://www.schwan-clan.de .
xterm will not be part of the next system update - sorry, maybe next time.

Tabs are also supported under Gnumeric. I've loaded the test file (pop2010-2016mov_nl_tcm325-234223.xls) and the tabs are there.

@JosDuchIt

I tried this with Gnumeric:

- Created a file with a link in it using menu item "Insert/Hyperlink...".
- Saved it in .xls and .xlsx format
- Loaded these files again in Gnumeric

The links were still there.

I'm afraid this will not help you, but it would be interesting what you get, if you load such an .xls or .xlsx file into Excel (Don't have it here)

@JosDuchIt

Gnumeric on AmiCygnix loads and saves .xls and also the newer .xlsx files.

Gnumeric on AmiCygnix ? (I tried to launch it to test but idesk crashed.)

Maybe this is the problem with OS4.1 FE update 1. Please dont't use the display driver "picasso96clonewbdb", use "picasso96clonewb" instead. It should work, but is a bit slower.

Re: How do you get a background in AmiCygnix? Just get Basic X11 Grey BG

@m1nuto

Hmm - it seems, that your installation is messed up.

First: I recommend to use the standard tools: "openbox" as the window-manager, "idesk" as the desktop-manager and "lxpanel" as desktop panel and no toolbar. Only these are well tested and supported. Programs like "Motif Window Manager (mwm)", "Rox-Filer" are kind of experimental.

I suggest to launch the script "Reset-Environment.bat" located in "Cygnix:S/Utilities" on the Workbench after a fresh reset. Afterwards the AmiCygnix Desktop should start with the default settings.

If you like to edit the AmiCygnix settings, please use "myX11Setup". Only the base package is needed for this.
The tools package has some additional tools like "gsetroot" as a second way to change the background.

P.S.: It is always a good idea to refresh the caches with "Refresh-ALL-Caches.bat" also located in "Cygnix:S/Utilities" when it is working again.

O.K. - found the problem.

The display driver "picasso96clonewbdb" ist buggy under update 1.
So if you have problems, please use the display driver "picasso96clonewb" or one of the other drivers for now.
To change the display driver use 'myX11Setup'.

O.K. - "cacheclearu.resource" was a good hint. Found out, that update 1 was not correctly installed on my system. After fixing that, I get the same crashes here.
I have to investigate...

@JosDuchIt

xdummy seems to crash while loading the settings, no idea why.

I suggest to make a clear new install of AmiCygnix for testing somewhere else. Before this make a backup of your "s:user-startup" file and remove the AmiCygnix stuff from it (everything between ";BEGIN Cygnix" and ";END Cygnix").

After a reset install the AmiCygnix 1.3 and the AbiWord package on a drive with enough space. Maybe it works.
To switch to your old installation, just replace the user-startup with your old file.

Esetroot crashed while opening the "cacheclearu.resource". I cannot find it on my system. Does anybody know, what it is??

I use Abiword, using the "start directly" icon on update 1 + beta components and on a Sam460.
I'm sure it will work on plain Update 1. I can try if you want.

Do you have problems with AmiCygnix together with the beta stuff?

Then it would be very interesting, if it works under a plain installation!

@JosDuchIt

Very bad news. At the moment I have no idea what's going wrong. I have to see the problem on my computer, but here it works excellent.

The new xdummy binary contains debug informations. Can you send me the crash log? It should contain more informations as the original binary.

It still get a crash when saving myx11setup this time pointing to lxpanel

But you don't get crashes with 'xdummy' anymore?

And when you launch the AmiCygnix desktop with "Start_AmiCygnix.bat" from Workbench? (located in the main directory of the AmiCygnix installation)

Quote:
Whn i launch myx11setup i observed the recurring line

00512 : myx11setup : FAIL = [exec] FindPort("XGeekPort.0") [22uS]

I guess it has nothing to do with the crash, but still...

This is because myX11Setup tests, if the AmiCygnix display 0 is running. It should only happen once and is normal.

@JosDuchIt

I dont't think so, that it is a SAM460ex thing, I'm working on the same machine without problems. Maybe it collides with something installed on your system.

I've created a new "xdummy" binary. Sent you a PM with a download link.

Hi tommysammy,

At the moment it is not possible. Using 32bit screens causes trashed gfx and crashes. It will be a lot of work to fix this. It is also slower than 16bit screens.
