Does the OS4 shell have native pipe support?

Sort of. You need to use "PIPE:" placeholders.

This works:
list SYS:#?info LFORMAT %N TO PIPE: | sort from PIPE: TO RAM:sortedfile.txt
Note: the use of the "|" does nothing more than executing both commands. You can execute first the "list" command and then the "sort" one.

Second example to extract only the "Disk.info" file:
list SYS:#?info LFORMAT %N TO PIPE: | grep Disk PIPE:
(grep comes from the SDK)

I uploaded only once and I don't remember anything related to my email address so I guess it was so transparent that I don't remember it. So it's ok for me

I copied from the DVD the ladking sys: files & directories. The USB boots, but LoadWB asks for a lot of info: the startup-sequence is very short and there is no user-startup

Why did you copy files by hand?????
Just run the installation script and that's all.
From what you say, I think you copied the files from the CD (small startup-sequence) which are only for the CD!

@JosDuchIt

If you use SFS as a filesystem you *must* use a 512 bytes blocksize.
For other filesystems other sizes may be OK.

I can't see anything related comparing your 2 variables list (and with my Uboot var list).

Jos: are you sure you have "video_activate=pci" ?
It seems you have "sm502" here. It means the image is sent to the onboard VGA port and not your graphic card that you have plugged in the PCIe slot.

You once installed Parthenope on this HD. Just install SLB (with MediaToolbox) and it will work.

I am not sure about your answer: do you say a USB HD partition can not be made bootable, or the procedure is different from an USB stick?

the procedure is the same for an USB key or HD.
I never tried on a HD but it should work.

Is there some URL showing the install procedure, I am afraid the procedure would overwrite the Sam440 Sys partition

It is explained in the PDF present on the OS4 CD.

You are right about the 2 possible cases for the HD. That's why I suggested to use another computer to test it.

There is no "SATA" (only) option. It's either "SATA HD" or "SATA DVD".
I wrote an article a long time ago. It was for the AmigaOne XE but you can find more information about Uboot.

You can select "verbose" somewhere in the menu.

I got the information from my neighbour (PC hardware & SW knowledgeable) that to boot from a cdrom you still need 80 MB on the HD

Do not ask to someone that doesn't know AmigaOS

The only things someone can test with a PC are:
- connect the HD and see if it is recognized by the BIOS and/or the loaded OS.
Beware, NOT to write anything on the HD of course or it will destroy your Amiga partitions.
- use the SATA controller on a PC with a PC harddrive (not yours) and see if it works.

Interesting idea. I could create a Linux/Windows VM. Some developer connect on it and install the necessary tools. When that is done, I can upload the VM on the Net for everyone to download.

Who would like to install the necessary tools?

@All

I am very busy these days so I cannot advertise the campaign to Open Source groups on the Net.
If anyone can spread the word, please do.

Thanks.

AmigaOS 15" laptop one day?
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Hi there,

You probably heard about this project before. Let's sum it up:

The Power Progress Community (PPC) was created to release to the public all design material to build a PowerPC laptop. These documents will be released as Open Source.

When this design is done, a production of such laptop could be launched. So in other words, this is the best chance we have to get our hands on a PowerPC based laptop with AmigaOS running natively.

Ok, it's not for tomorrow but still interesting. Why?
Because with the help of all the people interested by Open Source, we can reach this goal.
If you don't want/can't donate to this crowdfunding, spread the word around you. It is also a good way of contributing to this project. There are many people interested to promote open source in any form. With this project, the hardware design will be released as Open Source. We need to use these channels to reach the more people we can.

This will give us a better chance to have a portable AmigaOS one day.

More details on the dedicated page
