Re: What's wrong with this picture? Amigastore?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Wait a minute. So if I type amigastore.eu a little wrong I wind up at AmigaKit? That is a shameful play. I'm starting to think this company is not so much serving the Amiga community as preying on it.

AmigaKit, you've just about torn your drawers with a growing number of us. I've done you a kindness, I feel, by not fussing in public about past problems between you and me as a customer, and I even returned to the fold by doing a bit of business with you this year. But, now I wonder what I was thinking by lifting my own quiet boycott. AmigaStore.eu is a wonderful business to do business with. I will be careful how I type it when placing future orders!

And, my advice on another forum is worth repeating: Leave Amiga Addict alone. You'll only damage your reputation more if you pursue this kind of stuff.

My enthusiasm for AmigaOS4 for better or worse is tied to my ehthusiasm for the companies and personalities behind it. At this point in time, I am not particularly enthusiastic about anybody. But this particular bit of business is stirring me to comment in pubilic.

Sorry, everyone, for the negativity, especially on Amigans.net. This place has always been about enjoying the marchines and the OS and the software. I don't mean to spoil that.

@Capehill

EDIT: Actually the testing took me minutes not hours, and all is good here.

When I went to test against I found that I had too hastily deleted the new MilkyTracker so after I extracted the program from the archive again and ran it and used it to play some modules.... well, I find that all is working fine. Playback is perfect.

So I do not know what the problem was previously. My apologies for sounding the alarm. All is well here.

@Capehill

Thanks for response. The older version I have installed on my X1000 since ages is 0.90.80. It plays back fine. I don't ever create anything with it, just play modules made by others. Only thing I don't like about this version is I cannot figure out how to tell its built-in file requester to go to another device/volume -- only to folders going back to root. Probably I am missing something obvious.

Was pleased to see your version uses ASL, and that works a treat. Just have this problem where playback is bad. In fits and starts, very choppy. Maybe there is a setting I can adjust if this is not a bug???

Again, I am using an X1000 with Lyle's audio driver for onboard sound, and I am running OS4.1 FE Update 2.

Hi there. Thanks, Capehill, for working on this.

I just downloaded, and I must have something set wrong because playback is very choppy and sounds bad. Playback with a much older version of Milky is fine. This is on my X1000 using motherboard audio. Something I missed?

Lookee what I just found. Somebody showing a video of the X5000 spanking the X1000 in video playback thanks to the hardware acceleration. Man, I'm jealous. I do hope we get a solution for the X1000.

I wonder on this displaying of the CFE text issue.... what if one puts two graphics cards in the X1000? One would be an HD card and the other would be an RX card. Would that get around the issue?

I have run dual GPU cards in my X1000 since early days.

Yeah, I think in Amigaland HDR has implemented some gpu-assisted magic in the RX driver that is not in his HD driver.

Appreciate the information, guys. I'll keep reading and watching and learning.

Hmmm, are we waiting for CFE firmware upgrade to allow X1000 to utilize RX cards? Now that I think of it, a man in the know may have mentioned this to me on IRC a few months ago. If so, that puts a halt on the upgrade considerations for me.

Decision time: Do I upgrade my X1000?

Hi, guys. I've not been paying the closest of attention to developments in our scene the last handful of years or so. From the looks of things, there have been developments, and that is good. :)

I recently dusted off my X1000 and udpated the OS to the latest public release from Hyperion. Also upgraded to the new Hollywood Designer and updated the Emotion video player. (Now there is Hollywood 9 to do too.)

Now I have a question or two about going forward.

I see a new Enhancer release from A-Eon, including a new video/graphics driver from our champion Hans that boasts video acceleration to enable better video playback.

My X1000 has a nice R9 270 video card. With previous improvements to various versions of MPlayer and also Emotion, my X1000 is pretty solid at playback of 720p video files. But forget 1080, which has disappointed me all these years.

This brings me to my main question. (At last, you say! He is long winded.)

BEGIN MAIN QUESTION :)

Will the new RadeonHD driver in the new Enhancer work with a new RX card to allow me to achieve 1080p video playback in my X1000?

END MAIN QUESTION ;)

I ask this specifically because I only ever see mention of the X5000. Can I put a new RX card into my X1000 and benefit from the new driver, just as my X5000 brothers do?

If the answer is yes, what's a good card? This past year I put a new RX 580 card in my classic Mac Pro rebuild, so I am familiar with that card. But from glancing over the forums I see a lesser RX card might work better for us.

Thanks.

And long live the milspec X1000! Haha.

Anybody getting USB lockups since the update? I've had several today, where USB mouse and keyboard stops and capslock light is frozen "on" after capslock was pushed. Haven't detected a pattern yet. More than once it happened with closing a window, such as the Odyssey window.

EDIT: I am running an X1000.

Just chiming in after a long disappearance to say Update 2 has been applied to my X1000 and so far so good, no issues. I did update on top of an Enhancer 1.5 install so no doubt the official OS programs overwrote any other programs that foolishly may have been given the exact same names and paths. If I decide to add back any of those (probably not) I will give them new names.

Not certain if it's a placebo effect, but it *seems* my X1000 is more stable after the update. But time will tell.

My Sam440ep in the sweet Relec case has been sitting idle for years now, but I think I will dust it off and do a clean install of OS4.1FE Update 2 onto it.

Thanks, guys, for the Christmas surprise.

Is there an alternative for ADRipper for the platform? Or is it a one-of-a-kind useful tool?

Re: Scary X1000 crash story

I had this same situation bite me hard several days ago, causing the ramlib DSI so early in the startup that I could not boot without startup-sequence. Unfortunately my backup partition was not as current as I would like, so I really did not want to do a full restore from it to get back to working main partition. Spent a lot of time trying to figure out which part of several amiupdates run at same time caused the problem.

Never did find it on my own, but the thread K-L points to above mentioned z.library. So I copied over the z.library from the backup partition and now I am booting from main System again.

And next I am doing a current backup.

Going foward I am only going to let Amiupdate to one update at a time and not multiple, so I can easier track down a problem. Also will keep my backup more current. :)

Thanks, guys, for the info that steered me right.

EDIT: Hmmm. Is z.library the only file affected, I wonder? It's the only one I replaced to get back to booting.

I also paid for Wings Remastered and figure it is money lost. That was now years ago, and I have moved to another residence. Not even sure who to communicate my current address to or if it would even ever matter. Sigh.
