@bean

RLE will not work very good on this type of data. Don't forget that the "free" space on a HDD still contains pieces of or complete deleted files and other junk.

@MichaelMerkel

Old doc used?
Quote:

Instead of specifying on the command line which assignments to set up
and how, you can tell the ASSIGN command to read a list of
specifications from a file using the FROM option. In that file, there
must be one assignment specification per line; lines beginning with
the ';' character are ignored. The file could look like this:

FONTS: MyFonts:Fontdir
LIBS: SYS:Libs BigAssem:Libs PDAssem:Libs
WorkDisk: DF0: DEFER
C: DF0:C PATH

As you can see, it is possible to set up deferred and path
assignments and assignment lists, too.

To complement the FROM option there is the TO option which will
store the current list of assignments in a file, suitable for
use with the FROM option.

@Mason

I thing you could use the setenv/getenv Shellcommands for that.

Something like:
SETENV AISS SAVE 3.11
will create a ASCII file named AISS in Sys:Prefs/Env-Archive, containing the string 3.11

Try GETENV AISS to read it.

Well I was reading the sdk:documentations/Autodocs /#?.gc or some thing like that before computer stopped working, did not notice any tags for UTF8 support for reading / setting string attributes the gadgets.

Read again:
Quote:

LAYOUT_CharSet (ULONG) (V51)
The character set the layout group and all its members should
display their text in, regardless of the particular font used.
If zero, no character set will be explicitly enforced.

Defaults to zero.

Applicability is (OM_NEW, OM_SET, OM_GET)

Quote:

REQ_CharSet (ULONG) (V51.11)
The character set for the requester's text and gadgets.

Defaults to 0, meaning no character set is required.

Applicability is (OM_NEW, OM_SET, OM_GET, RM_OPENREQ)

...

Quote:

WINDOW_CharSet (ULONG)
The charset of the WINDOW_NewMenu menu strings and the
WINDOW_HintInfo help strings. Should be specified with
e.g. the cat_CodeSet value of the catalog your application
opened. (V51.11)

Defaults to 0.

Applicability is (OM_NEW, OM_SET)

@joerg

Yes, but there are WookieChat ports for OS3, MorphOS and Aros. It will save jahc much work if he use codesets.library. Where is the problem to display swedish characters using the swedish charset, when the UFT-8 String has been converted to the normal swedish amiga-charset?

@spotUP

It should be possible to add UTF-8 support in WoookieChat using codesets.library. Maybe you should ask jahc for it.

Even as I more thought about a parameter for the standard copy comand.

The standard copy command prints the names of the files, this is a kind of progress indicator. Maybe it is the simplest to not use >NIL: ?

You could use the echo command to print a * ever 100 Files or so. Or you could use the Installer if the script is a installer, like in your AISS.

1/ Does TuneNet still continue playing, after the AWeb crash?

Not while the GR window is open, but if you click continue it will start playback again.
Quote:

2/ Does another browser, like IBrowse, operate after the crash has occured.

Same as 1.
Quote:

3/ Can you confirm you have sufficient stack on AWeb?

I have increased the stack from 200000 to 800000 and get the same GR.
Quote:

4/ Can someone try running TuneNet with the -nogui and -nodock switch from cli with a radio station - does that cause the same problem.

I have tried it for 2h now, but don't get a GR.
I will keep an eye on it in the next days.

@nubechecorre

From Documentation/Fonts.doc
Quote:

The FixFonts tool can be used to rebuild the .font files to fix the
system font database in case of an accident. You normally only call it
if you are unsure if the system font database is damaged or inconsistent.

And it will rebuild the fontcache, if enabled.

The iousbscanner.device needs to be replaced because it uses iousbscanner.library which tries to open poseidon.library (which we don't have).

Here is the changelog of the iousb.library v2.2

Quote:

Changes for V2.2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- added detection (!) for the Epson Perfection 1660 and Epson
Perfection 2400 scanners
Changes for V2.1
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- fixed a bug in OS4-support that affected the Poseidon side
(port allocation problem)

Changes for V2.0
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- optimized for speed
- added support for Sirion USB-Stack (OS 4.0 & Thylacine)
- iousbscanner.device 1.1 fixes a timing problem in conjunction with
the EpsonUSB.device-driver and the Epson Perfection 1650-scanners
at high resolutions
Maybe it is "just" buggy?
