@Snuffy Indeed, we should have him write an updated doc file for it.

@LyleHaze
On the final CD, there is a directory called Documentation. Look in Documentation/Intuition, the Screen prefs doc is called ScreenEditor. I've alway been meaning to print all those docs out as there's a lot of good info in there.

I wonder if you can set up an alias in shell-startup? Would be worth a shot.

The copy/move command is internal & probably hasn't been touched. I'll have zerohero take a look at them as he's the maintainer & porter. I did a copy from shell with your buffer setting & got a copy time of 50 sec, a bit faster then with DOpus. Quote: "I thought you are using SFS? SFS doesn't get faster with larger blocksizes, some operations even get slower with larger blocks." I am using SFS on all my partitions, 2 HDs, 1 400GB with 15 partitions & 1 80GB, all one partition for backups. The bigger partitions I'm using 1024 blocksize, but I'll change them to 512 & re-format. As far as copying a 700MB file, I get 50-55 secs from partition to partition & HD to HD, no difference in time. Big thanks for your help & answers.

@joerg
I use DOpus v4.18 ppc for copying. I uncommented the BUFSIZE tooltype in AsyncWB & put in your buffer size & that made a big difference, a 12MB file copies in under 1 sec now. I have some avi movie files that are 700MB in size & they copy in 55 sec. Does that sound normal? Buffers=1000 & blocksize=1024. I played with bigger block sizes, but no difference in copy time.

@Snuffy
The speedup loading patch was for Collector 3.5, a thumb creation app for images. If you're running Collector, the patch is in post #22. Post #32 has the hints for speeding up a DOS copy function.

@Snuffy
In reference to Collector loading the index, it went from 28 secs to under 2 sec to load after the patch, pretty impressive as I would never have believed it.
USB CF cards are slow, especially some older cards. I did some speed tests with my card & this is what I got copying that 12MB file.
HD > CF 48 secs CF > HD 15 secs HD > HD 15 secs
Partition to partition is under 2 secs & the HD to HD seems way to slow to me, but I have no idea what I'm missing. Both drives are set to UDMA 5 & use SFS. Could be because each HD is on a separate ide port.
If your system has no problems using DMA, you should be using it.

@joerg I must have edited the wrong address the first time. I just edited it again & got a big load speed increase. I do have DMA set to UDMA 5 on my drive. Thanks for the tip.

I'm using the VIA-ide on a micro which is slow. I applied your change, but still slow here. Are you guys using a sil card?

I don't understand why you don't have the speed difference, did you hard reset your machine, you must load the kickfiles in kickstart of pre4. -----------------------------------------------------------
Yup, hard boot for each. I'm having a hard time believing a 12MB index file could load in under 2 sec. Is there an option to load the index & not show the thumbs until the index is fully loaded? That would make sense to me. I'm using SFS under ud4 & final.

I downloaded your index file & loaded it into Collector 3.5. Both ud4 & final loaded it in the same time here, 28 sec.
Now if you're talking about makeing the index thumbs, that takes about 2 secs per image for me.

@Menthos
I was getting the tutorial crash as well, so after reading the input from others, I did some experiments. In the icon info, I had 'Start from Shell' & 'Prompt for input' checked "on", so I changed 'Prompt for input' to "off" & no more crashes. Starting from WorkBench crashed me as soon as I started the game.
Set your icon info to 'Start from Shell' & 'Prompt for input' to "off" & see if that helps.

Trouble is, the time you save booting up, you lose waiting for the internet to connect after WB shows. Some net apps will crash if you try to start them before you connect.

Same problem, I just changed my burner from UDMA 2 to UDMA 1 & my final cd booted for the first time for me. try playing with the DMA setting.

Same problem here with an NEC ND-3550a DVD burner. I tried a cd-rw & cd-r, but neither would boot. The cd did show on the WB & I was able to run the installer. I have a bootable ud3 cd that I tried & it did boot just fine. Final cd kept saying 'no slb found', like others have reported.
Could be a DVD drive problem because MakeCD locks up after burning the iso even though it does burn ok.

@Samwel
I just switched over from a crt to a ViewSonic VP920b TFT & it was so much fun....not!
Heres my settings.
BOARDTYPE=Radeon CMPLENGTH=6 (SETTINGSFILE=SYS:Devs/Picasso96Settings) (BORDERBLANK=Yes) (BIGSPRITE=Yes) SOFTSPRITE=Yes IGNOREMASK=Yes (DISPLAYCHAIN=Yes) (FAKENATIVEMODES=Yes) INTERRUPT=No VSYNCMIN=50 VSYNCMAX=85 HSYNCMIN=30000 HSYNCMAX=82000 MODE=1280x1024@60 MODE=1280x864x32@60 MODE=1024x768@60 MODE=800x600@60 MODE=640x480@60
You must remove the Picasso96Settings file from Devs into sys:storage so it can't be found. You will need to auto-adjust each screen setting to make the different modes fit the monitor. I also found that 60Hz was much easier on my eyes.
We have the same TFT brand other then size so my settings should work for you. You can ignore the 1280x864 mode & a 320x240 mode is crap on a TFT, blocky & is not recommended. The INTERUPT=No is to stop the audio cutout problem when scrolling in AmiPDF. There are some screen modes that just don't work for me yet.
