Re: Amiga OS4 - moviemaker

@bean

The userbase won't grow without hardware will it grow without software?

The regular user won't buy OS4 capable hardware unless some applications are available for it.
See this thread just to get an idea of what people expect to be INCLUDED with their OS of choice.

When people buy a computer and a new OS they expect to be entertained right out of the box and Amiga can't provide that anymore. No moviemaker, no picture editing software, no office programs, no music making software, no CD/DVD burning software.

Not even a webbrowser that can compare to whats available on other platforms

This is where the lack of support from Amiga Inc really shows IMHO. If Amiga werent as greedy as they are and would let Hyperion control all things OS4 we could have come MUCH further now I believe.

And Amiga Inc could have earned real $$ on OS4.

Even if Smithy isn't interested in doing an OS4 version he might let others do it at some point? It will be interesting to see when it is finished.

I hope 2007 will be the year OS4 will finally see some up-to date browsers.

Paihia, written from scratch.
Sputnik, based on KHTML, basic version available on MOS.
IBrowse 3, written from scratch or? when?
Aweb, Going the KHTML route? any development done?
Firefox, doubt we will ever see that

@hotrod

I think it's just Smithy working on it now think he's been alone on it for a long time though. Would like an update too!

Paihia might suprise me some day but I think an updated IBrowse and/or Sputnik ( http://www.ppa.pl/khtml/index_en.php ) will be our best bet for a modern OS4 browser.

The latest IBrowse update was great but still lacks features in certain areas. Sputnik is also exiting to follow and allready works on Morphos and have features Ibrowse doesn't.

@Skov

Good idea for a new year resolution, I will try to follow you on that one.

Got Ibrowse registered as the latest application but that was the day it was out and last year.

Must find something to buy/register for January..

The students have stopped working on Mozilla long time ago i think, don't think they made much progress? Still some other people are working on it but I think development is slow.

Guess our best chances for a decent browser (within the next year..) must be iBrowse and Sputnik.

Aweb lacks so many features that I hardly use it anymore
