Re: Temporary freezes while reading partition

Quite a regular

@ChrisH

Ok - new hard drive attached, prepped and partioned. Full backup done. Puh! But before the problematic HD will hit the bin, I'll install some new SATA cable. Just to be sure...

BTW: While doing my backup yesterday I noticed, that the error *seems* to show only (sporadically) when accessing my big 480GB-SFS/2-partition. While working on the other partition on that HD (~100GB, SFS/0) I did *not* notice any problems - this might be by coincidence, but nevertheless: Is there anything known about partition size, SFS/2 et al. that might lead to this problematic behaviour?

@MickJT

Ok, thanks for your infos - so it seems to be a hard drive issue - I hope the current one will live long enough to make a full backup to the new one...

Temporary freezes while reading partition
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

Hello,

my PegII has a sii3114 SATA interface, connected is a 640GB harddrive. Recently I discovered temporary system freezes while reading data from that hard disk (some partitions, mostly SFS2 formatted, the biggest one 480 GB).

After some seconds of no operation/total freeze the read process went on without an error and all user actions seemed to be buffered, so all my desparte clicks were processed.

An immidiate call of Dumpdebugbuffer reports:

[sii3114ide/ata_rw_blocks] unit 1 lba28 read error 73, retries left : 4

What's going on here?

Re: Unify libraries for developers

@corto

Not only from the developers point of view - also for me as a user it would be of great benefit to have a "single" source approach. For me it is often difficult to know which is which version - I often do not dare to replace already existing versions of some sobjs in my SOBJS: assign. Some of them I see as "official", 'cos they are part of the OS installation, some are "third party" - but what should I do, when the same shared objects comes from different sources (with the same external version)?

Furthermore most of this sobjs don't feature a proper internal AmigaOS version string, which drives me crazy! This could be handled by a single source as well. Just my 2 cents.

What's wrong with version 1.8? Works nicely here on OS4.1 since ages...

Yep - QIII, iOQIII and OA are running on OS4.1 - so RTCW et al. should theoretically work as well...

@Hondo

hmm...and you really think such posts help?

Back on topic: My fav FPS was (and sometimes still is) QIII Arena - maybe I didn't play ET often enough to get the grips with it...

@djrikki

AFAIK it is based on AmiDock - search the net, you might find a current version for download (http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... ility/docky/push4dock.lha).

@Kicko

In the meanwhile I'm used to the boing - it is the official trademark since OS3.5. The checkmark reminds me more of my classic 68k Amigas (the hardware...).

@Elwood

SFS/0 helps also to work more fluent on a PegasosII with both OS4.1 and MorphOS2.5 - both are able to access this partitions (excluding the old FFS).

Request for AmiFIG "backport" to OS4.
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

I still use the 68k application AmiFIG on my OS4.1 systems - recently I learned that this software has been ported to AROS in the meanwhile and is to be developed further in this enviroment.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/amifig/

The sources are accessible at sourceforge and some MorphOS developer already did a "backport" to MorphOS.

http://aminet.net/package/gfx/edit/amifig

Request: Is there any chance that someone of our OS4.x-developers might be interested in a building OS4 version? It would really be awesome to have a native version -
and there is potential for further developement and more features for future versions by the AROS maintainer.

What is "IBrowse"?

OWB is of course my main browser - but I use Netsurf more often now since the last release. And very seldom AWebPPC. But OWB still rules!

While once upon a time I were a real ARexxWizzard (tm), I'll really want to play with Python. But from pure lazyness I still mostly use ARexx...

Last night I had the strange idea to use Python, the ARexx module and PEB's Visualguimaker to build some utility. Maybe I should get more sleep and take my pills...

@kas1e

As always: There are *certain* members of the MorphOS-Team who are - hmmm - very keen NOT to support anything that is related to OS4.x. It's pure politics. I suppose we can't do anything about this except -> porting Zune? (like Kolla already suggested)

I think AWeb wouldn't be the worst solution for a "GUI and stuff"-framework - it already uses Classaction/Reaction - and it is still my favourite browser on OS3.9.

Yep - Vesalia told me the same. But for people like me it's still not an "anecdote"...

Ahem - back on topic: Is there some kind of benchmark/comparison between DosBox and PC-Task somewhere?
