Re: Version 1.14 is Now Available

@joerg

How about grayscale and maybe reserving 2 bits for Alfa blending.
AACCCCCC (36 gray colors) (4 alfa values)

4 different Alfa blending values (0% , 33.33% , 66.66% and 100%)

Dithering large images on a 200 MHz CPU,

Well it can be done where fast, there are some techniques used whit web cam?s, and you really only need to do it once, we are not talking about rendering a 24 bit image as 256 colors, I?m talking about converging the image in to 256 colors, to save ram, so download the image convert it in 256 or downscale the image, now it takes less memory.

You can easily view mpegs on 200 Mhz, so 200 Mhz is not a problem.

And showing a 256 colors image on 24bit/16bit display is quite fast, a simple loop and 256 colors lookup table is all that is needed, the lookup table can even be in the native pixel-format, so you can even save time of converting it to the display.

And use a Lens docky to read the page, eh?

No was not talking about the text arias on page, only the pictures on the web page.

Scaling techniques can be where fast as shown many Amiga demos.

I still think that paging is the best solution, more so since it doesn't require a load of effort just to support old machines.

I can easily agree whit that in a perfect world, but many classic Amiga?s do not have DMA modes only PIO modes.

@Rogue

Large gray areas do not need large textures.

And other way to save memory is color reduction 16/24 bit bitmaps to dithered 256 colors bitmaps.

Or maybe down scaling images from 1/1 to 1/2 or 1/4 of the original resolution.

there is no way you can efficiently create a vector image from a bitmap.

I remember correct in the "state of art" A500 demo some one created a vector animation of girl dancing.

I think it was done to save disk space.

@Rogue

Well a web page contains of lots of stuff, like Text, table, background colors, and so on, think about this as vectors, and attributes, images you do not display does not need to be in memory they can be on disk, so that a few more mb saved.

@joerg

What can be done is to create vector based image of web content, that way you can render only the visual parts, saving lots of mb of bitmap memory.

Scrollbars are just the thing I was waiting for, looks relay nice, i think OWB is faster for ever update.

But way does the browser not use the OS4 memory allocator?

@GrumpyOldMan

If you get DSI what do you do, do you ignore the error or do you reboot?

If I get DSI error I some times try ignoring the problem, but after trying faulty application I reboot, so that system is stable.

Do you do the same or do wait until the system crashes?

Yes maybe some RAM problem, maybe a faulty application is doing it, have tried remove every application you do not need in user-startup and wbstartup?

@lazi

I once did have same problem as you,

Every time I tried fix the problem the drive become corrupted because of some cross linked files.

If I remember correctly I gave up, and make backup copy of every thing after that format drive and installed SFS, previously the drive contained FastFileSystem whit long name support, luckily most of the stuff was not damaged, just most recent C and H files was damaged.

I have no Idea,

Copy your boot partitiion to work partition,
format your boot partiton, and reinstall AmigaOS4.

I have absoloutly no idea way it does not work.

you have installed the SO files right?

and your ELF library is the same as my version?
