Re: SAM problem...HELP!
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

If I put the flex in I get identical results.

No I have got everything new, case, PSU. The SAMs were taken out from different set ups which I haven't got anymore.

I'll try with another PSU. Thanks.

Hi,

I have got two, one with lots of pins and one with less pins, same result with both...

SAM problem...Half Solved!

Not too shy to talk

I have put my SAM440ep in a tower case and there is no display!

SAM440ep

550W PSU 80+ 24pins (using 20 of course)

Connected to a CRT VGA monitor via a DVI to VGA adapter and all I get is a black screen and the monitor complaining that there is no pc attached!

The blue led on the SAM comes on and the leds on the two ethernet ports flicker like mad at the beginning then just once in a while, but no display.

Is it busted?

I have tried a PCI card and nothing, tried the VGA adapter (internal pins) and nothing!

I have put a SAM flex 800 in there and still the same.

What is going on?

I believe the SAM44-ep uses memory for printers...I might be wrong.

The memory module on my SAM440ep is a memory stick, which means I can remove it.

On it there is a sticker and it says:
TS512MHP2628
Transcend

It has two notches.

Thanks for the info.

So if you put 1GB the SAM will only recognise 512MB?

I don't think it can be upgraded, without directly soldering the RAM chips to the board? Maybe someone else knows better.

I was wondering what happens if you replace the 512MB memory stick with a 1GB one...

The latest UBoot can be downloaded from ACube:
http://www.acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=hardware&pid=1
(scroll down to the bottom, and click on "UBoot 1.3.1d 15-Feb-2011 updater ISO")

Thanks!

I would advise NOT installing from the original OS4.1 CD, as Update 1 will entirely replace it. Instead download AmigaOS4.1 Update 1, burn that ISO to a CD (enable Verification aka Error Checking if possible), and then install from that. THEN install Update 2, followed by Update 3.

Cool, I didn't know that, so don't bother with the OS4.1 CD and just download update 1 burn to ISO, then 2 and 3.

Not sure what "file system configuration is". But I suggest SFS with 512 byte block size. JXFS should also be OK, except for the boot partition(s). Stay away from FFS, but make sure you do backups, as only FFS has repair tools (the others only have file recovery tools).

I meant file system, which is the one to use? So it looks like SFS with 512 byte block size for Workbench (bootable) and JXFS for the rest like Work etc...over on amigaworld.net someone said SF2?

Does this apply to OS4.1 on all the OS4.1 compatible machines? SAM440 800MHz, 460ex etc...? Why haven't SFS and JXFS got repair tools?

Stick with the on-board graphics chip, as a Radeon 9250 won't be noticably faster (it might actually be slower), and supposedly 3D won't work with such a PCI card.

That is a shame...so is it better to have a 440 800MHz or SAM 460ex then?

YEah, you should be able to use all SATA ports for HDs, although I've never tried. Why bother when HDs are so large these days?

I was thinking of having a SSD/HD for Workbench and then other HDs for other stuff like back ups, photos, docs, games etc...

SAM 440ep mini itx questions

Hi,

I need to put my SAM440ep back on track and I need some answers please.

Can it be upgraded to 1GB?

I thought it was based on this:

https://myapm.apm.com/MyAMCC/jsp/publi ... il.jsp?productID=PPC440EP

which tells me up to 1GB...?

Which is the latest UBoot that needs to be used?

I have got OS4. Do I install it and then apply the 3 updates?

Which is the best file system configuration to use?

Which is the fastest and with most memory PCI graphics card to use or shall I stick with the onboard one?

I have got a SATA DVD-RW, can I use the remaining three ports for three HDs? I am thinking one SSD and two HDs.

Anything else?

Thank you!

Battery? Do we know the type of battery used and how long it lasts running OS4?

I say 800MHz but not in lime green!

@logicalheart, ChrisH and DAX

I am confused by the approach.

>>Also, I found it very odd when I uploaded Amiga videos to Youtube. Some people started spamming CommodoreUSA advertisements in the comments section, and some of those same spam accounts also posted hate messages against other Amiga products.

This is something I have been discussing on another forum regarding another product.

Apparently there are people named "seeders".

I read an article about one of these self-confessed "seeders" who decided to come clean. Basically she explained how some people are employed to work from home and all they have to do is disseminate, even in a not so transparent manner, advertising and spam, called infiltration marketing on any kind of forum.

Now I don't know if this is what happened to you or if it's just a case of fanboysm...

Chris,

I really don't know what to make of it.
CUSA contacted me regarding a possible collaboration and interest in my design a few months back.

Now an email regarding Amiga and its logos and the fact that they will have to defend their rights.

The thing is I have not used the Amiga name nor the multicolourd thick...so I find it a strange behaviour.

I have emailed them as they wanted to see the design.

The weird world of Amiga...

Chris would you be so kind to put the black on up as a pic I can only manage a link...d'oh! Thanks!

Just so that it's clear:

Over at amiga.org I replied to someone who kept saying to put the UNIVAC logo on the case by saying: "No, but I can put an Amiga logo on it..."

I have just been contacted by Barry of CommodoreUSA who is reminding me that the Amiga name and logo are licensed to CommodoreUSA.

So I want it to make it clear that if something requires permission, permission will be asked.

Just a quick update:

Changed the round nose (towards the end of the keyboard) for a corner one, because of production costs but, to me, it looks even better, following the clean lines of the rest, it also makes the case slightly shorter.

On top of this Amiganews.it member Alblino has already started modifying the X500 PLUS and give a representation of possible colours, have a look at the white version:

Hi Chris,

Ventilation slots are on the right hand side, I am not sure if you can see them.

The "X500 PLUS" name on the right hand side are the cut outs, laser cut through the aluminium

I am thinking of adding more, at the moment there are some slots underneath where the graphics card sits.

Tested the 440ep, 440Flex and 460ex and the heat inside was minimal, I suppose it might also be down to the body being completely made out of aluminium.

There are no slots on the top like on the Amiga 500/1200 to stop coffee/coke spillages.

Thanks

PS: Added photo, thanks
