@Alkaron

Christ knows. I wish Amiga, Inc. would just go away.

@Helge

OS4 supports the mediator as it does any other PCI bus. It shows up through the standard OS4 API (expansion.library -> PCI interface).

If you want to use Elbox's 68k pci.library instead, just remove any OS4 standard drivers that would try and use the cards on the mediator, and install it as you would on OS3.9; Elbox's drivers (provided they are up to date) work with the native P96 etc.

As a betatester, i can't say too much. I think I can say that work on the Classic version hasn't slowed down at all and it is progressing well.

I would imagine that if you used IExec->AllocSysObjectTags( ASOT_MESSAGE, ... ) you won't go far wrong, that way what memory to use for inter-process communication is decided by the kernel.

No. He said FFS was designed for floppies and the subsequent changes to make it work with hard disks were a hack.

FFS does not, and will not ever support files > 4Gb.

SFS2 does, but it had a bug and joerg removed it from his site. It may or may not be fixed in the future.

There is another filesystem for OS4 which supports large files which is better than both FFS and SFS, which will be released when its done (TM).

In the meantime, OS4's DOS has been updated to provide an API which can cope with large files. The filesystem is the last piece of the puzzle, and it is being worked on.

PFTP will support 4Gb. It uses the new APIs exclusively.

@Jack

Even if sftp is a totally different protocol (i haven't looked into it yet, and was assuming it was standard FTP over SSL), its not a problem. Each browser window in pftp has an associated child thread that handles either local directories or an FTP server. Its designed so that if I want to support more protocols in future, i just impliment a new child thread type that interfaces with PFTPs gui.

I'm an OS4 betatester. I have the latest non-public SDK files.

And yes, it should be fixed in the button gadget, hence me reporting it in bugzilla.

@rwo

Its a horizontal group of button gadgets with image objects for the graphics.

Yes, the images are AISS icons.

There is a bug with that, though. If you use images with alpha channel, currently every time you refresh the gadget, the image gets drawn over itself, so, for example, shadows get darker and darker.

I've reported this in the OS4 beta bugzilla, so it should be fixed at some point. I'm thinking of using a custom subclass of the button gadget that forces a redraw including the background on a refresh to work around it till then.

The dos library fully supports it. Its true that the only publically available filesystem that supports it is SFS2, yes, but note the term "publically available"? Thats right. End users can use >4Gb files on AmigaOS4, not just betatesters.

FFS2 will never support >4Gb files, but don't worry; there is a brand new filesystem in development that does. Sure, that filesystem is only available to betatesters right now, BUT as I said SFS2 is out there RIGHT NOW.

Not really. It could be tackled the way MacOS X runs MacOS classic apps.

Well, I don't know what i'd do if Amiga, Inc. "won". I'd be pretty disgusted.

Until the court case, my sentiment was that I really enjoy developing for OS4, and that no company politics could change that.

The court case has soured that view somewhat.

I can only say this: As long has *hyperion* are still developing OS4, i'll still be developing apps for it.

@Helge

IIRC, more than on ex-employee of Amiga, Inc. have confirmed that the company wanted nothing to do with AmigaOS, and saw the community as a bunch of flakes they could fleece for cash whenever things got tight.

Suddently, Tao are out of business, AmigaDE is more AmigaDEad than ever, and its all "ooh. AmigaOS... of course obviously we wanted to do something with that all along!!11"

I don't think even Amiga themselves know what they will do with AmigaOS. I wouldn't be surprised if they just sold copies of what Hyperion & co have done so far to raise some cash for the next "big vision" before forgetting all about it and never developing it futher or mentioning it ever again.

OS4 native FTP client

I started work on an OS4 native FTP client about a year ago. Work on it stalled around october last year, but just recently i've got back on to it.

Just thought i'd share a work in progress screenshot.

Edit: Newer shot later in the thread!

Wow. Congratulations on staying Amiga only for so long. Its really kind of crappy that you had to cave in.

Edit: BTW is there any chance you could take some screenshots of the Amiga version of WordPerfect? I can't find any online, and I'm curious.

@Atheist

If SAM was on sale with a legally licensed copy of OS4, I'd buy one like a shot.

I would only sell my XE if I absolutely had to to afford the SAM, otherwise i'd keep it.

The XE has been a great, solid, reliable workhorse since i've had it.
