Re: AmigaInput Queston

Not too shy to talk

Hi @all,

I had busy weekend and finally managed to look into the AmigaInputAnywhere (AIA from now on). From what I understand, and I may be wrong, AIA is looking into the AmigaInput, but just to the buttons which you can see in the Test/Calibrate unit. It does not respect which color you have assigned to which button in the LowLevel.

I have tested "Heart of Darkness" using AIA and was able to assign keyboard keys to the Fightstick. It worked very good and in order for keys to be picked up, AIA needs to be open when you start the game.

@MamePPCA1

Not sure if you resolved issue of keys assignments in AIA or not, here is how I did it:

First, I went inside the drawer AmigaInputAnywhere then inside the Config. From there, I copied Default file and pasted it in RAM disk. Renamed the file to the executable of the game, in this case the Heart of Darkness which is "hode" and then copied and pasted that file back into the Config drawer. Now I opened AIA and could see my game in the list. I was able to edit it, not messing the other config files.

Before all of this, I wrote down the A-B-X-Y buttons in the "Test/Calibrate unit" and numbers assigned to it and also wrote down the keys within the game which correspond to the action (jump and fire). Clicking on edit in the AIA will give you the list of the buttons from AmigaInput so I clicked on button number and in the popup I have pressed the corresponding key for the action. Rinse and repeat until all buttons are assigned and save.

I did not test this in the emulator, I don't have one, but if you can assign keyboard keys in it globally (so all the games are using the same keyboard keys), you should be okay. I hope this helped.

@All

AIA is just a workaround for joystick/pad to work and is not a solution. What we need with in AmigaInput is option to assign buttons which will be accepted and recognized by the system/game and not only for legacy support (LowLevel). I would think this should be one of the first items to work on any system and by now, we should have working input preference for various gaming devices. I am thinking of something simple as it is in RetroPi, where you select configure joystick and then it asks you serious of questions for all of the directional/buttons assignments. Something simple as that, because right now, AmigaInput is broken. It will crash with almost every change and I can't even remember how many times I had to reset the machine because of this while testing out. Also as @rjd324 noticed (and Daedalus in the other thread), some of my assigns were producing left and right cursor movements, without any explanation.

Anyway, just my opinion, cheers!

@MamePPCA1

You might wanna try AmigaInputAnywhere as rjd324 suggested above. I did not try it personally yet (planning to) but it looks to me it is more suitable for MAME as you can assign keyboard keys to the buttons/pad movement on gamepad.

If you try it, please let us know how did it go.

Thanks for this @rjd324! I'll take a look probably tomorrow at the AmigaInputAnyware, this might be a solution for some of the games.

Does AmigaInput save those remapped setting anywhere, in some prefs file or something similar, but then system is not reading them after? Snoopy might reveal something there. This is of course just a wild stab in the dark, I have no idea how it works nor I can write a program which will tells me what is assigned to what. I wish I can thou :) Kudos to you sir!

On the other hand, Thematic and Chris confirmed that Lowlevel is designed for backward compatibility, so the newer games would not recognize the mapping, if I understood that correctly. It is just silly that there is no proper support and the configuration options for the gaming devices.

Hey @Antique,

I can confirm that Logitech Wireless Gamepad F710 is working for all native AOS4.1 games. Do not know if that's the case for the classic emulation, but I would assume it is. All of the buttons could be recognized within AmigaInput from 1 through 10 and in the games I've tested, it looked good. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated! Do you know if there is any other way to reconfigure buttons in AOS4.11?

Hi @rjd324

I've seen your post earlier today but did not know the answer to it and did not want to steal your thread as the issue appeared to not be the same. When I fill out the button assignments in the Lowlevel tab and save it, all the info will be saved there, even after the hard reboot. The 1st image you see was taken after the hard reboot, but regardless, when I go back to the main pref window and do the testing, all the buttons will stay as they were, nothing would change, and no assignment will be done. It appears that no matter which button I assigned, it will not be picked by the system. Unfortunately, I do not have any emulators to test it out, nor the iBuffalo controller, but native Amiga games that I tried would work with “original” buttons. This means that A and B are still assigned to Buttons 1 and 2 and X and Y are assigned to Buttons 4 and 5. Button 3 is not assigned to anything at all, and in some games this is "Fire". Example of such a game is Heart of Darkness, so it is not playable with this joystick. I tested Fightstick, Competition Pro USB and Logitech F710. Only Logitech 710 is working as supposed and have "Fire" mapped to one of the buttons. Comp PRO have only 2 buttons working (out of four), and none of them is usable in the games, if I remember correctly.

I am not sure if the AmigaInput works at all?
Is there any other way to map the buttons on a system level?

I know this is not much of a help to you, but that's all I have, I am stuck similarly as you are. :(

Edit: Massive spelling corrections.

AmigaInput Queston
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi!

After installing bunch of games on my machine, I did some testing and noticed that joystick buttons are not mapped properly.
I looked into the AmigaInput to ensure that joystick (Mayflash Arcade Fightstick F300) is calibrated correctly and while there
is no problem with the stick, the buttons are all over the place.

While playing some of the games, fire was not assigned to any of the buttons and in the AmigaInput it appears that it is
the Button 3 which is problematic. I tought that goint in the AmigaInput and selecting a LowLevel tab will allow me to assign
any of the buttons to the existing buttons, but that was not the case. My guess that Button Remmaping color scheme is
refering to the CD32 Pad, so I have assigned A-B-X-Y buttons to coresponding colors. Well that did not do anything and going
back to the Testing window, the button mapping remains the same.

Worth mentioning: Logitech Wireless F710 is working flawlessly out of the box.

Is AmigaInput functional (it seem very buggy to me and would crash on ocassion) in a way that you can re-map buttons?

First image is the image of the AmigaInput LowLevel tab and image below is the image of Fightstick, top perspective,
buttons assigned to color scheme are A-B-X-Y

@AmigaOldSkooler

Thanks for suggestions, both are very good games and I added them. I might even play the Battle for Wesnoth, reminds me of Warlords, if you played it on Amiga. If you (or anyone else) have any other suggestions, please share!

Network will not be a problem now, I'll bring my laptop with me to re-set it over there! ;)

Cheers!

I figured it out, finally! I don't know why I tried to set up the thing via Amiga but it went all well under my Linux system. I guess I was overthinking seeing win and mac (I don't have any of those two systems) configuration in the manual and completely ignored to plug it in my main machine. It took me literally 5 mins to configure the repeater, plug it in Amiga and it works! Nothing needs to be changed on Amiga side, whatev config is working for LAN card, just replace the LAN cables and it will work.

Thank you all for suggestions, it helped me a lot!

Cheers and best regards!

EDIT -- Changed wording.

Here is the image of the real configuration which failed on me:

While looking further, I've noticed that Odyssey adds http:// in front of the address, like this:

Can that be an issue? Probably not, as I can reach out to my NAS this way without any problems.

Hi @LiveForIt

I've added 192.168.1.253 and 255.255.255.0 and check mark on "Use static IP" in GIMP after I have reverted the setting to my standard configuration. I did not take a screen print during the set up so I had to improvise.

Sorry for the confusion!

The dongle arrived early this morning and I've been trying to set it up without any success. I am not a networking wizard, but I thought I know my way around. First of all, the device needs to be configured through windows or mac, talk about false advertising because they claimed you just plug it and it will work. I guess it will if you use WPS, which I can't use at the event. Here is my issue and if anyone have any suggestion, please let me know.

The device needs to be configured via Ethernet properties in win:

https://ibb.co/mvGNZcB

What I did on AOS, was following:

I also tried some other approaches, but nothing worked. Any suggestions or advice is welcome and appreciated. If nothing works, I'll return this one and get something else.

Oh, one more thing, here is the set up instructions for the dongle, if needed:

Thanks in advance!

Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate them!

I took a look at the wireless cards and then into the repeaters and found a satisfying solution with this dongle (Amazon link):

https://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Ethernet ... 2-wifi%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-1

Regarding the wireless cards, I didn't see that explicitly say that driver works with the X5000 nor the cards I was looking at are easily available. Because I need wireless set up for just a few days, I would hate to mess up my existing working internet, which is why I decided to take the other route. Sorry @khayoz and thank you!

When I looked into the repeaters, this small dongle looked most reasonable priced and promises to deliver exactly what I need. It will arrive overnight, so tomorrow when time permits, I'll test it out and let you guys know how did it go. All information received was very valuable and helped me a lot to make my decision, thank you @Helloworld and @Xenic!

@AmigaOldSkooler -- Thank you for your confirmation and thank you for your blog, I open it every morning to read any news (if any) while sipping my coffee and getting ready for work. I think Boatfest will be fun and is a great opportunity to meet all the people that I know via chat only, talk Amiga and maybe, only maybe about other inferior systems ;) For AmigaOS 4.1 action, I just spent two days installing bunch of games (did not have a single one on my system) and hopefully I made a good selection (link to the ibb image sharing portal):

https://ibb.co/ggYcj73

Planning to add M.A.C.E. as well, but that should be more than enough. Amigos are gaming community and games are what they care about. I don't think anyone will ask to look into the productivity tools, but then I might be proven wrong.

Take care all!

@khayoz

Thank you, I'll take a look today and see the compatible cards for 54Mbps driver.

@Helloworld

Thank you for your suggestion. For WiFi repeaters, is it simple as plugging a dongle into the power outlet, plug the LAN cable into the dongle and it will work or additional set up is needed, like running internet connection wizard or something else?

Thank you both again! I am planning to take my Amiga to the Boatfest and they do not have LAN access there, just WiFi. Displaying X5000 without internet would be... less desirable.
