Took me a couple of days to get around to clicking on that "A," but yeah, I've got the same problem. I see a tvpaint.ini file with configuration information, including a whole section pertaining to fonts/text.

What should it say? Here's mine...

Everything is good to go on my Sam system in regards to TVPaint. When the program starts, I am presented with a screen mode requester that tops out at 1600 x 1200. I'm using the Screens preferences to promote that to 1920 x 1080, which works.

Only weird thing is if I ever do want a 1600 x 1200 screen, I guess I'll have to unpromote that mode. Doesn't seem likely, however. HD video resolution images will be my main use for the program.

Thanks, everyone, for your assistance -- especially ChrisH.

@Swoop

Thanks. I set it up just as you did with ImageFX and Screens and now that one is at 1920x1080 just like I want. Interesting that within ImageFX's config settings the max resolution offered is 1600x1200, just like with TVPant. The Screens settings don't seem to override the TVPaint screen for me, however.

OK, thanks. I think you've put me onto the right path. It's way beyond late here, so I'll give it a go tomorrow. Headed for bed now after a couple of victories in making my SamFlex into my new Amiga.

@emeck

Doh! The font change was too easy.

Changed shell size in the icon tooltypes like you said. Works great for launching a shell from Workbench. But how do I change the default shell size when issuing the CLI command "newshell"? That's what I can't remember, and that's what the AddMenu thingie I'm using has added to my custom Workbench menus.

Thanks!

I used to know how to do this with prior versions of the Amiga OS. Has it changed with OS4?

Newshell creates a very shallow shell windows only a few lines deep but extending the full width of my 1920-wide screen. I'd like th change the default window size and also specify a larger font.

A double thank you to the first responder to jog my memory or create a new one if it really has changed.

Problem solved!!!

There was nothing at all wrong with very first TVPaint installation, nor the latter ones made with the script by Chris. (Thanks, Chris, for the help.)

The problem was that I had not set up any screen modes for my Radeon 9250 and Samsung B2330 other than the 1920x1080 I'm using for Workbench. And for some reason TVPaint won't run on that. Once I enabled a number of modes via the ScreenModes Prefs programs, I am able to choose from a variety of modes for TVPaint to run in. And it runs fine in them.

It would be nice if I could get it into the HD 1920x1080 mode, however, so I can create native HD stills images for use in my video work, which is mostly done on my Macs but could use a little old-fashioned Amiga razzle-dazzle.

On a related note, I am able to run ImageFX on the Workbench at 1920x1080, but the largest custom screen it will run on is 1600x1200 -- same as TVPaint. Why is this? It's something I want to pursue.

Thanks, everyone for your advice.

@ChrisH

Okey dokey... still no go. Had only tried running through RunInUAE later, after my inability to get the program going. But I just made sure RunInUAE was quit and reinstalled with your script. Same problem.

Here's the SnoopDos log of what happens...

@ChrisH

Ok, that makes sense. What happens when I doubleclick TVPaint icon without involving runinuae is ... Nothing. When I get home I'll do it with snoopdos running to see how far it actually goes.

@DAX

That's what I tried to do, but TVPaint still will not run. So I thought maybe there is some stray config file somewhere from first attempt. Don't see anything though.

Should P96 prefs show some modes?

May be onto a clue here after someone in another forum mentioned Picasso96 should be able to emulate CG.

When I run Picasso96 from Prefs, I ger an error requester telling me Picasso96Mode "Could not finy any modes!" So how do I made that work? Must have some files missing from where there supposed to be.

Using the installation files from Chris, I again installed TVPaint and same symptoms. Program wouldn't run when double-clicking icon. Then I ran RunInUAE. After that, double-clicking TVPaint icon opens a small Workbench 3.1 screen, which then informs me it can't find cybergraphics.library.

I use CyberGraphics on my 4000. I'm assuming this wouldn't be a part of OS4, and I see references to Picasso being part of OS4. I'm not very educated about this aspect of the OS.

I'm wondering if maybe I have some stray TVPaint config file somewhere that somehow got copied from my 4000.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the advice. Got a few other things set up on my new Sam, but will wait until tomorrow evening to try again with TVPaint. It's late here in the U.S.

Here's that YouTube video I mentioned...

That's what I'm trying to do. Know it's possible because I've seen the YouTube video of it in action. I've got TVPaint 3.59 installation files that have worked on my 4000 with CV64/3D card, and I have run the installation on my new SamFlex system. But nothing happens when I double-click the program icon.

I think it might be looking for Cybergraphics stuff. I see Picasso stuff here. Does the solution exist there?

Thanks for any advice!

Also installed is RunInUAE.

And I was really uncertain which forum to use for posting this query. Would emulation or classic have been better since I'm trying to run 68K code on a 4.1 machine?

Well, decided on a course, as I can't stand this keyboard a minute longer than necessary. So this evening I ordered a Das Professional S keyboard. The nice lady at Das (Erin) agreed to send me some blank keycaps so I can get rid of the Windows logo keys.

I also bought a Logitech LX8 cordless mouse (matches the three I already have for my Macs).

I believe in good input devices.

Now... I'm off to try to install TVPaint.

@mbrantley

Hey interrogative, you got a picture of your custom Unicomp? I had looked at their Web site and am encouraged that they made you slanty-A's keys.

328gts, thanks for the welcome. Very good idea on your boing stickers, and I have downloaded glUAE. May have to give RunInUAE a go too.

Antique, looking forward to seeing what keyboard and mouse the X1000 ships with. I really like the tower case they picked.

ChrisH, I certainly have plenty of Apple keyboards around the house, so I will definitely try one out with the Samiga before ordering anything else. I'm a big fin of the Matias Tactile Pro 2.0 keyboard and have two of those for my Mac systems. The 3.0 version has replaced it and unfortunately is only available in white -- when it is available, that is. Appears to be sold out everywhere.

Thanks, all. My Sam system should be delivered tomorrow. I'll certainly use the keyboard and mouse it comes with at first, but I know I will end up going with a "clicky" keyboard like the Das, Unicomp or Tactile Pro before it's over. And I like Logitech cordless mice, so hoping one of those will work.

@Rigo

Rigo, thanks for the information. It means the keyboard I have in house and was hoping to use will be no good for this application, as it lacks Windows keys. Now I'm thinking about getting a Das keyboard, made in Austin, Texas, here in the USA. It's got a nice look and the mechanical keys I desire.

It's available with and without lettering on the keys, as apparently Super Geeks and the most proficient touch typists don't need the lettering. I'm going to contact the company to see if they can make me one with lettering and symbols everywhere except the Windows keys. I'd rather have blank "Amiga" keys than ones with Windows logos! I'm sure you understand!!!

I expect to take delivery next week on a new SamFlex system with AmigaOS 4.1 from AmigaKit. It comes with a USB keyboad and mouse, although I expect I'll want to upgrade the keyboard as I'm rather picky about those.

But I wonder is it necessary to use a keyboard with Windows keys emulating the Amiga keys. Under 4.1, which I've never used, how are the Amiga keys handled? I'm assuming most use the Windows keys, but how is this handled on a keyboard without Windows keys? Big pain to do such a thing?

Wish we had a nice custom USB Amiga keyboard, but I know that's asking much.

Very excited to be getting a Amiga system!
