@orgin Excellent update. Love the double click. At this rate you going to put the DOpus5 porters out of business How did you solve the colour issues on screen change? I've notice one of my own Apps suffers from it too....

@Mrodfr
Looks like the filesystem has become coruputed and it treating your file as a directory.
You need to reformat the key. I always format USB drives with Linux, as I've not had satifactoey results under AmigaOS4. Depending on the drives I had problems copying large >20Mb files onto a drive, (but never reading them back).

@orgin
Unlocking whilst iconifying would do it. As long as you remember to refresh all info gleaned from the screen when relocking, as the Workbench screen may have been closed and reopened in between times.

@Orgin
Does filer lock the workbench screen (or similar?)? The reason I ask is that when changing GUI prefs I get the "Intuition is trying to ... please close all non draw windows" type message until I quit Filer.
I deally the lock should only be held long enough to get the required info / ensure that the used info is still valid.
For example you only need to iconify AWeb to get past this Intuition message, not quit completely, as it only holds the screen lock whilst it uses the info, then releases it.

Here's a plan: Write Hyperion an email stating what you want them to do...
How about a better plan-- Icon Preferences!
Icon allready have preferences as part of Workbench prefs, you meen a button tab in GUI prefrences. Tricky though as Buttons are used in a varied range of applications, and contexted. There is no toolbar gadget as such under reaction (not unless it was added when I wasn't paying attantion).

@saimo You should look a little closer if you think the filer icon has no double state, aprt glowing yellow the mouse pointer moves.... I like the new designs, just the size increase will be a minor problem for me, 21x48 < 1280 but 21 x 64 is > 1280 and that's the number of icon in my amidock, how can I choose which one to leave out?

@orgin Quote: Except that ftp://username@my.site is extremely painful to use since you have to re-enter the password over and over again.
I tend to set up icons in the ftpmountdir for any site that access regularly by ftp. The avoids the password issue. I still get requesters informing about loggin in, but I'm not unhappy with those. The main thing ftpmount doesn't do for me is manipulte the filepermissions at the server end. I have to revert to ftp 'proper' for that.

@orgin Quote: 1. What OS4.x version are you using? Some users report that it happens for them, but it never happens to me. (I have the A1XE 4.1 version
I'm using OS4.1 with the recent two patches from hyperion on and AmigaOne XE G4 800MHz Radeon 9250, with 762 Mhz Ram I typically launch Filer from AmiDock (just and ordinary icon in the dock, no smartbutton or similar). Quote: Ah yes, I see now that it happens in ordinary folders ugh! I mean directories too...

@orgin A couple of things: 1. When uniconifying 53.12 seems to open the parent of the directory that you iconified, although the icon itself shows the correct path. eg work:webdesign/spider_html reopens as work:webdesign/ or ftp:spidersite/html/ reopens as ftp:spidersite/ 2. Filer seems to work well with ftpmount, except that when there is a preexisting file, the warning requester doesn't report the filename of the file being replaced, just "''". That could as well be a ftpmount bug but DOpus4 does report the file so it may not be. (unless DOpus4 has a workarround) 3. Lastly Just a tiny tiny winge Could you not snapshot the directory icon in the distribution? I'm only talking about the top level Filer.info icon, I keep haveing to hook it out from under the AmiGS Icon everytime I reinstall to sys:utilities ... But overall looking better and better!

Usuall when reirecting with run you need two redirections IIRC
run <>NIL: program >NIL:
the first redirects 'run's io the second 'program's, whether this works for filer I haven't tested.

@fuskoSCN Quote: btw - would it be possible to add an option to let the user change the text "set destination" and "set source" - Myself I prefer to simply have "Source" on the lister that is the source, and "destination" on the lister that is the destination.
I did find that slightly confusing to look at myself at first. Now I have source and destinations set with differeing colour schemes, so it's obvious at a quick glance with is which.

@wawa
You mean borderless toolbar buttons like in AWeb? Yes, but it needs to be done at Application level, ie Joerg would need to add an option. I don't think it can be done at gloabal preferences level.

I agree that sequencial for small numbers of file would be annoying, as you most likely want to see all of them.
You could have a warning with the option to cancel, continue or handle sequencialy perhaps.
Or you could handle files in sensibly sized batches.
But the one thing you don't want to do is display the entire source tree of a major app in one go! :-0

@broadblues
Just found a really quick way to take down my system....
Display a direcory with a large number of files.
Select all.
Click on View by accident when you meant search.
Opens a large number of multiview windows very quickly, runs out of memory and dies...
Perhaps viewing multiselected files sequantially rather than asynchrounously and all at once might be an idea?
(I think DOpus 4 does it that way)

@orgin
Sorry I'm missing something here... why do you need to close the console at all?
Surely that's down to the user to do once they read the output from the program?
Like by analogy if I set up an external player for AWeb (say mplayer to play movies) I'm either interested in th output, in which case I read it from the AWeb program output console, then close it, or I'm not in which case I set the function arguments to >NIL:
It's not quite the same as your launching arbitrary programs from the filer ( I assume this is filer related) but do you see what I mean?
