@thread

just wanted to chime in and say that the odamex build works fine on my peg2 running the latest OS4.1u6 updates. i did get a DSI when switching resolutions once, but ignored, and it continued just fine. i've been using it with my DOOM2 WAD.

no, you're right. the P5020 has two 1MB shared L3 caches.

@zzd10h

you were actually able to start a torrent and download a file? could you share the torrent you tried? the new ctorrent build starts up just fine, reads in the torrent fine, but -- like before -- times out on every tracker without fail.

i'm sure i'm doing something wrong, since all the torrents i've tried and didn't work on my amiga work just fine on my linux boxes, but i have no idea what it is. if anyone can actually use ctorrent successfully, let me know. maybe we can debug my setup together? pretty please?

Until that happens, I think AmigaOS4 users (and AROS users for that matter) should avoid putting money towards the bounty. Just my humble opinion of course.

sadly i think you're right on this. this is a huge amount of money (well, for our community anyway), and if future versions are not guaranteed, it seems a bit much to me. additionally the idea that dependencies with code changes will not be opened either sounds like someone just trying to make things more difficult.

brilliant! this has made me a very happy amigan this evening. a few questions for you:

1. will e2fsprogs be available as command-line tools?
2. any early indications on performance?

i can remember early builds of fuse-ext2 on OSX and it wasn't a speed demon. but that was a few years ago, and hey, even if it's glacial, it will be wonderful to have read/write support for disks from my SUSE boxes. thank you so much for your work thus far!

goodness! we certainly seem spoilt for choice here. i'm a huge fan of single-player first-person shooters, so i suppose my #1 request would be porting the darkplaces engine. thereafter i'd love to see platformers like cave story and any racing games like TORCS.

but basically i'd just like to thank you for joining the community and adding your talents. it's hugely appreciated, as are the donations from so many to make it happen.

What do I expect? Promises to be kept. Week is little time and is quite much time. There were only two current AmigaOS news (not promises) that are NTFS driver and X1000 onboard ethernet, and for example I do need them on day to day basis.

At the other hand, Ubuntu Remix was avail for install on X1000 months from now, and is already announced as done deal officially, but is not available.

steven announced the existence of the FUSE layer and an NTFS implementation for it one week ago. he also said that it was being tested and would be released soon. he also said that the ethernet driver was still being tested, but should also be released soon.

if you want to run GNU/linux on your X1000 there are *eleven* distros available for you to run. the new ubuntu live DVD is coming as soon as they deply the amistore.

oh, and as for news vs promises, there was tons of news at the show. tons. you weren't there, ok? the videos of the presentations were done by volunteers. and volunteers do not have a responsibility to post things for you instantly.

what on earth is wrong with you? ever since you got an X1000 you seem to have turned into a demanding, impatient, spamming nutcase. smoke some ganga and relax, already.

@Fab

sounds terrific. i love using odyssey on my MOS build, but i tend to use MOS infrequently, so it would be wonderful to have version/feature parity on AOS4. i'm not sure how the 'bounty' mechanism would be set up, but you'll have at least one more contributor here.

thanks for considering doing this. your work on odyssey is stellar and, assuming everything goes well, i look forward to using it on my AOS4 boxes, too.

AFAIK the 5k would give us a *slightly* newer version of Odyssey, but still much older than the MorphOS port & without any HTML5 video (I am happy to be corrected if this is wrong).

HTML5 video support has been in there for some time, but the OS4 builds do not include it.

on the subject of yet another 'bounty:' the performance differences between 1.16 and 1.20 are noticeable on my MOS box. i would be happy to contribute funds for version parity with the MOS version. i would not contribute funds for further back-level versions.

i'd still rather have a more performant/stable timberwolf than anything else.

Moreover, it often looks like ignorance to completely sane suggestions. If you wish to have more objective veiw ask some non Amigan who is not a personal friend to browse it and give opinion on moderation and how certain Hyperion representatives behave in communication to their own customers.

au contraire. i think ssolie is by far too lenient with idiotic, uninformed, pointless suggestions on the support forum. but see, since i don't think it's my place to give never-ending advice to someone who didn't ask for it in the first place, i don't.

Quote:
That is simply not acceptable for today standards, in shortes. Don‚t bite the hands that feed you.

acting like you can speak for everyone on what should be done is not acceptable in basic ettiquette. don't bite the [developer] hands that feed you.

Quote:
Another point of real serious frustration is lack of long term plan.

what in heaven's name are you on about?! every single year ssolie and hyperion have reiterated the roadmap:

* modern 3D graphics stack
* support for multiple cores
* improvements to workbench
* an updated printing stack
* new filesystem support

... and so forth. not only do they share their roadmap with us -- which i think you'd agree very few companies do, since it's usually considered proprietary information -- they even give us progress reports on a regular cadence. if there's something missing, you can always suggest it in a friendly manner; but unless you're ponying up the money to make it happen, understand that they may or may not accept your suggestion and be OK with that.

look, don't get me wrong. there's nothing wrong with offering well-thought out suggestions for the future. there's nothing wrong with constructive criticism. but at some point you need to accept that maybe, just maybe, the people on the other end see things differently than you. the best thing is to accept it and move on, rather than harp on about it in multiple threads, multiple posts, multiple forums. it turns everyone off.

@thematic

people asked for the motherboard alone for a long time now, you know? some people really do want the ability to source their own parts. so here's the deal:

1. if you are going to order the motherboard+parts from amigakit, don't. buy the full system and save money.

2. if you have components already or want to purchase your own, buy the motherboard by itself and save money.

get it? there are two types of customers here, and they're trying to cater to both. constant whinging about the prices doesn't make them go down.
