Unless it's a simple chip and oscillator swap, I hope that they don't alter the design at all. IMHO, nothing that delays the release is worth it. Plus, with all the complaints about price, increasing the speed (and hence, the cost) won't help. Maybe this could be a revised model for later. Hans

Nice work!
Once the SAM 440EP flex version is out (the one without onboard gfx) this project will become even more important. These cards will kick the 9250's @ss.
For sure. I just had a look at the SAM 440EP flex's specifications, and I'm happy to see that there's a 66 MHz slot. That'll provide the graphics card with more bandwidth than standard 33 MHz ports. BTW, does anyone have an ETA on these flex boards? Their announcement suggests that it was supposed to be out last month. Now would be a good time. Hans

upgrade. So, a little more progress. I probably have the most (unusable) graphics power in an Amiga right now. There's still a long way to go (and I still need the Picasso96 DDK). Hans

Its not in P96. picasso96api.library is provided for legacy reasons. Once the new SDK is out, the updated functionality is all in graphics.library, right where it should be and where it would have always been if commodore hadn't gone tits up.
graphics.library provides new functions for blitting and composition.
Also, cairo provides a whole new API for graphics as standard as well.
None of which is in the current public SDK. Hans

If there is a P96 function that does the same thing, it's not in the autodocs, or the header files. Hans

@orgin Quote: orgin wrote: Hello.
I have a small demo program that I wrote for AROS years ago. I've rewritten it for OS4 and it runs fine, but it uses a cybergraphics.library call that I want to convert into a Picasso96API.library.
This is the cbgfx call:
ICyberGfx->WriteLUTPixelArray(srcRect,srcX,SrcY,ScrMod,rastport, ColorTab,destX,destY.SizeX,SizeY,CTFormat)
I'm copying from an 8bit chunky array to the destination rastport that is inside a window on the wb (24bit).
Any idea how to do this with the p96API? I've tried using p96WritePixelArray but I can't get the results I'm after. And you can't specify the ColorTab pen conversion array.
From memory, Picasso96 doesn't expose this function in its own API, even though it's there in the Cybergraphics emulation. My biggest complaint about Cybergraphics functions is that you have to create a rastport for the bitmap, even though there's nothing in the rastport that is needed for truecolour blitting operations. @COBRA Nice to know that BltBitmapTags() has all the functionality required. It would be great if we didn't even have to open the Picasso96 library at all. Hans

@LiveForIt
Yes, OWB 2.8 really is a big step forward. The sites that used to crash, no longer do so, and I can almost edit my website via OWB. The CMS backend doesn't quite work properly on OWB and there are one or two .swf files in there, but it looks like it almost works.

Was there enough copies of OS4 classic sold to consider 4.1 for the classics?
At some point the technical limitations of the old hardware are going to matter too. To get the most out of OS 4.1 you already need a Radeon 7xxx graphics card or better (preferably a 9xxx series). At some point classic users will be missing out on so much that it won't make too much sense to keep on supporting the old machines. Hans

I think that it would be best if you just waited with amiupdate until you're satisfied that OWB v2.x is ready to replave v1.x. No need to create a separate amiupdate entry for v2 which will likely be obsolete soon.

@number6 Quote: UBoot doesn't initialize bridge chips properly. Sure, you'll be able to see the cards on the other side, but accessing memory or I/O on those cards is never enabled. I discovered this while working with the Radeon X1300 PCI card that I have (inside an A1-XE). It has a PCI to PCI-Express bridge on it. Figureing out what was wrong wasted a good chunk of my time too. Strangely, UBoot was able to initialize this graphics card in text mode, so exactly what's going on I don't know. I was hoping that someone had figured out whether this was a hardware or a software issue. Hans

Sorry to tell you guys, but a riser card won't work in a micro. A shame as I'd like one as well. No riser card, no gfx card for micro owners.
Has anyone figured out why? Is there a PCI to PCI bridge card that might work? That would be a PCI bridge with multiple PCI ports on the other side. I have read that no-one has managed to find a PCI riser that works, but I haven't seen anything as to why, or whether it's fixable. Hans

IIRC, writing a Picasso96 driver involves signing an NDA, so I don't think that it can be open-source. I don't have the Picasso96 DDK yet, but I've requested it. The OS4 devs are kind of busy, so I'll give them time to respond. Hans

Very nice. Just getting to the point you are at now is a good first step.
Having a look here at the ATI cards reference: Wikipedia ATI GPU comparison
Will any of the R5xx/R6xx cards on AGP 8x work, or are we stuck with PCI?
The impression that I got was that none of the new R5xx/R6xx AGP cards operate at the higher voltage of a 2x slot. I could be wrong of-course. However, the advantage of the PCI cards is that I don't have to swap the card in and out to test it. I can continue using my system via my Radeon 9000, and simply use a KVM to view the results on my X1300. Quote: Would you be interested in any donations of similar cards to round out your R5xx/R6xx collection? I'm thinking RV516-based X1550 and/or RV610-based XT2400 PRO if we are limited to PCI.
I'd happily accept donations of similar cards, so long as they're PCI (for now). I originally tried to get an X1550, but got out-bid. I couldn't justify spending too much on a card that I may never get to do anything. Now that I have the AtomBIOS parser working, supporting newer cards shouldn't be too hard. Quote: If I were starting from scratch then I would use that one. The old source-code is pretty ugly. However, the new code hasn't bee tested as thoroughly, and my code depends extensively on the old AtomBIOS parser. There is no point in switching. Hans
