Well isn't that the major problem? Sticking to a project even though it becomes a drag? I think it was Mike Abrash that said "The first 90% of a project are fun, the second 90% aren't".

@abalaban

'feasible' in my understanding means "likely" or "sensibly". I don't think it is feasible for Hyperion to go into browser writing. It *would* be a dreadful waste of resources.

Yeah, especially since those cards are a new generation and a good deal faster, too.

@Deniil

I actually had a look at 3D support on the Pre-R200 cards. I am quite sure it can be done, in fact, there is only one small obstacle I would need to be able to solve in order to write a Warp3D driver/Compositing manager for R300 cards; this would most likely work on R400 and R500 as well, although R600 is quite a bit different.

(edit)Note: Don't go out and buy one just yet though

Everything related to filesystems under AmigaOS is complicated.

@Tomcat

You might want to try and check the PCI/Vendor ID in U-Boot or AmigaOS 4. I can add the ID to PCIGraphics.card's list of supported cards.

I am sorry, but what does the availability of an OS 4.1 SDK has to do with that?

@LyleHaze

Hmmm... the strange part is, U-Boot always uses PIO mode. It does not use the variables for interrupts either. The access is always the same, regardless of how AmigaOS 4.x is set up.

There has to be something else going on.

@bean

I'll admit here and now that TuneNet was one of the first things that came to my mind when I started with the compositing engine. I'll see what I can do, right now, the SAM version is high up on the "rob-my-sleep" list, the SDK is being worked on but as I said in the past, it is mostly about getting binutils up to spec.

The issues with U-Boot prefs are

- The author no longer works on it.
- It cannot really keep up with the changes in U-Boot.

It's not really a bug per se, but how hard would it be to enable Sil3512 booting?

To be honest, I don't know. I don't have the slightest clue about this. What I can do is try to put the PCI ID of the 3512 into the list of supported ID's and see whether that works or not (or rather, have someone with a 3512 test). Have you reported this to the bug tracker?

@Swoop

Sorry, but that is a problem with either U-Boot Prefs or idetool, so I can't do anything about it.

Seriously, for most people the installation went seamlessly, and if I interpret this thread correctly, it wasn't 4.1's fault either.

Concerning the PS/2 init time: I think I have implemented a satisfactory solution. There is now a variable ps2_init with three possible values:

"always" (the default)
Tries to initialize the PS/2 keyboard in any case

"never"
Always skips the init. A handle-with-care case.

"auto"
Skips the PS/2 keyboard init if all of the below is true:
- stdin is not set to "ps2kbd"
- There is at least one other known device (usbkbd or catweasel)

This seems to work well, if set to auto and a usb keyboard is present, the PS/2 init is skipped.

Comments?

@TMTisFree

Unfortunately, documentation from VIA is not exactly forthcoming with information. I suspect that the battery is actually powering part of the VIA 686B, but why and how to prevent this I don't know.
