Re: Lightworks going open source

Not too shy to talk

@Hans

All I had to read was that Oscar-winning editor Thelma Schoonmaker has used it to put together pictures for Martin Scorsese. I'm convinced!

All I've done so far is install it on my Win7 setup just to take a look at it. My main machines are Mac OS X setups (but my fun ones are Amigas).

Gnu and Phantom,

I was thinking the same thing about both points you have made -- mature, open-source video editing solution but something for down the road a bit. I just downloaded the free Windows beta release of Lightworks, and it looks very promising. I'm a Final Cut Pro editor, and I immediately like that Lightworks can be configured to use the familiar FCP keyboard shortcuts.

Running something like this on an X1000 or some future AOS machine would be a cool thing.

Gero, wow! iBatch is getting better and better. Seems like it's becoming more and more the Photo Mechanic for Amigans. PM is a Mac&Windows application favored by photojournalists.

I don't know if you now have a working preview on screen, but I have.
I don't remember which renderer I have chosen but I can check that tonight if you want. It's probably Cybergraphx.

Yeah, let me know what you are using.

And just to be clear... are you talking about the preview image that can be made to appear after a frame is rendered? Or are you talking about the wireframe preview animation that you make with the "Make Preview" function in Layout. I assume you probablty mean the former, but if you have the latter working then I will be very, very excited. I've only ever got that to work on a real Amiga chipset.

Ask a developer to look at the crash log, which might offer a clue.
Something to always consider when installing a 68k program:

When I installed AdPro, I noticed features not working. It required a rexx library that didn't seem to have an OS4.x version - rexxreqtools.library. Once installed, the issue vanished.

I'm not saying that's your issue, but it is worth looking into Lightwave dependencies on your OS3.x and comparing.

Bringing this thread back to the top just to mention my pleasant discovery: The Modeler ARexx scripts are working for me now. I don't know what has changed, because I haven't messed with the program on my Sam since August. But as of just now, the "Center" and "Center 1D" functions are working as they should in Modeler.

Yea!

Off to trace some rays...

Wow... looks like a lot has happened with this thread and CW support while I've been away. Marvelous!

I finally have come up with two SID chips harvested from broken Commodore 64s. One is a 6581 and the other is a 8580. Will it work to use them together on the CW, or should I try to find matched chips?

@Spirantho

Looks like you have one SID headed your way soon from 328gts. Let me see what I can turn up locally, too. I just placed an ad on Craigslist seeking old Commodore computers. If I can unearth enough cheap or free C64s, I'll send you a SID chip you can keep for your efforts.

The only one I have at present is in my C128 and not coming out of that machine.

@sundown

Yeah that does work, as well as the driver that clones WB. But the point of trying the pip driver is to run AmiCygnix on the Workbench screen. Not sure if it's worth dropping back to an earlier system file, as you say, however.

Haven't had time to try because I've been letting my Sam devote itself to two days of rendering frames for a long, high-def VistaPro animation. Don't want to reboot until it's done.

@328gts

Thanks for the info. I have to admit I am as intrigued as I can be by those empty SID sockets on my catweasel, and I wish they did something in my SID. It would be so cool if an AOS4 audio application could access a SID through the catweasel, but I supposed such a thing doesn't exist.

Meanwhile, I found a 1.2MB 5.25-inch floppy drive and was able to read Commodore 64 disks for a couple of days with my Sam. Didn't get around to trying to format a CBM floppy before the drive failed. It actually had a fair amount of corrosion on some of its parts, so I'm not surpised. Will look for another.

Re: Need program to assemble animation frames
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

I've installed so many programs this summer in an explosion of interest in Amiga-like next-gen computers (AOS4.1u2 on my Sam440, MOS 2.5 on my eMac, and AROS/Icaros on my iMica Silent) that it's all starting to blur together. :) But if faulty memory serves, I installed IFX 4.5 on my Sam using an installation script from OS4dDepot, and perhaps that installed a set of nonstandard icons???

In my IFX4.5 installation, it wasn't just AutoFX but also ImageFX and several drawer icons that showed up as .info files with an icon labeled PNG when showing all files. I don't care either way about fancy icons -- just wanted to launch AutoFX, so I grabbed a set of standard icons from a classic install of the program from one of my Amigas.

It's all working for me now.

@cygnusEd

Sorry to dig up a months-old thread, but I'm messing about with this now under AOS4.1u2 and I observe the same pink coloration when opening AmiCygnix inside a Window on Workbench using the picassoa96pip driver.

Has this been fixed, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

And thanks also for all your good work!!!

Could be, but I dunno. I grabbed the proper icons from an IFX4 installation I have on another Amiga, and all is good now.

Re: Need program to assemble animation frames

Not too shy to talk

Just chiming back in here to say Gero's iBatch is fitting my needs perfectly for batch file conversion from ILBM to JPG. It's now part of my Amiga workflow for LightWave and VistaPro animations, along with ffmpeg for assembly with Kevin's ffmpegGUI.

Incidentally, I have noticed a weirdness with my ImageFX installation. There is an AutoFX.info but no associated file. And this .info file is showing up as a PNG picture icon and not the AutoFX icon one would expect. Must figure this out... (There's always something to do!)

And, #6, maybe I'll start a new thread for what needs doing to get ADPro fully working. Another project for another day...

IBatch can

1) Batchconvert iff images into JPG, PNG, BMP
2) rename/renumber output images (renumberformat is currently only 3digits format (eg. image_001, image_002...) this could be changed/added though.

Thanks! I'll be checking out your program for sure.

ADPro and FRED should run on OS4.1. They do on OS4.0.
But there are files that need to be substituted and one notable file that needs outright replacing, the IFF loader.
Once this is done, you can use modepro to do some amazing things. For example, you can create the crop visual screens to be any resolution you prefer.
Again, this is something I can help you with in irc, if you like.

Good to hear. Need to fetch the ADPro installation files from my ailing A4000D, as my floppies are probably long gone. Look forward to eventually getting it working under AOS4.

The demo is still availabe here for you to test:

I've seen various uncrippled versions all over the net, so I would say it's still available.

Cool. I may have mentioned in my other thread about LightWave that it appears my LW installation has some sort of jpeg saving plugin called HIIP, but it's not working. There is no output saved when jpeg is selected. As I said, this LW installation has been moved from Amiga to Amiga to Sam over the years, and so I can't even remember installing this plugin or even using it! Suppose I need to look at my Toaster installation DVD (with a version of LW requiring the Toaster card to be present) to see what's there. Got the Toaster with LW working in my A2000/060, by the way. Probably my most capable classic machine right now since my 4000 is down.

Only problem is that VistaPro freezes the computer upon exit.

From reading the comments in my tutorial thread, it seems to be an issue confined to OS4.1. I never had that issue on OS4.0.

Does Scenery Animator work with AOS4?

I have no idea. Most people at the time were posting that they wanted to use VistaPro2, 3, and/or lite, so that's what I took the time to get working.

Thanks for VistaPro guidance given in the other tread. Even though I have Bryce on my Mac and have played with various versions of Vue on PC and Mac, I still like messing with VistaPro and its MakePath associated program.

Thanks. Let us know if ceclia will let you share. I do have ImageFX installed on my Sam. I initially bought the program a year or two ago and installed it on my 4000.
