Re: Newscoaster Ver 1.64 (OS4) Crashing.
Just popping in

@afxgroup

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for creating an OS 4.x version of NewsCoaster.
To me, it's a lot of faster and more stable than the
68k version. Especially when having lots of messages
inside a folder, such as 20,000 or 50,000.

The MasonIcons icons are, of course, a nice
touch when comparing to the old icons .

That said - occasionally - I do have a problem when trying to search in such a folder with lots of messages - I get a grim reaper.

---

Question:

Can somebody explain if it's possible to archive folders
somehow? I haven't found a way to create a new folder
and then move old messages into that folder.

On the other hand, I've never used a news reader
before, so maybe it's not working like an E-mail client.

Any pointers?

Thanks
Regards,
Kotler

@Snuffy

Oh, really? Is "Clock" to blame for this problem?
I wrote about this bug in the OS4.1 Bugs thread.

I had no idea it was connected to Clock, I will
try as soon as I'm back on the micro A1c.

By accident, I just noticed that if I press ALT+F4, I zoom in,
and with ALT+F3 I zoom out.

I presume it's the original shortcuts for these functions.

Interesting...

@Swoop et al.

Thanks for the tips on looking up the Version number.

But, I still think it would be a good idea to
implement it in OWB.

Niels,

Yes, I've read this discussion, also.

But, in this case, I've booted from a clean
installation of WB4.1. Running no special
programs at all, I removed all programs
in WBStartup folder.

I still get the above mentioned behaviour
when I try a simple copy operation by D&D'ing
a file from RAM: to my SYS: partition.

This is why I'm lead to believe it's the
Composition effects that's the culprit,
because as soon as I switch them off (Comp. effects),
D&D will start working perfect.

Re: OS4.1 bugs

Hello,

I've got a uA1c with 256MB RAM running OS4.1 for AmigaOne.
1280x720, 16-bits.

I can confirm there is a bug in the Compositing Engine
on uA1c's, at least on mine .

Strange graphic problem - 'Noise' with
Composition Engine enabled
---------------------------------------

If I enable the Composition Effects in the GUI Prefs, I
sometimes get small pixel errors, it's hard to describe
it, it's not trashed pixels. More like "noise". It can
move to different parts of the screen. And then it's gone.
It's just a few pixels each time.

Has anybody else noticed this problem? What the h*ll
could it be? I've checked the cabling, and it's
no problem.

If I switch CE off in the 'GUI' prefs, I don't get
this problem.

Drag&Drop in Workbench doesn't work with Composition ENgine
---------------------------------------------------------

I can confirm this, D&D will NOT work with the
Composition Engine, the D&D aborts very rapidly.
If I switch off the Comp. Eng., D&D works
perfectly.

ALSO, but I'm not 100% sure, the Mouse wheel
will stop working in some applications.

Thanks,

Re: OWB 2.15

@joerg

Request:

If at all possible to implement, given the time constraints of the
OS4 coders, I would like to be able to see the version number somewhere in
the OWB program, since there are so many releases.

---

Simple solution:

Where it says "Origyn Web Browser" in the Workbench title menu,
can you suffix it with "v2.15 (2008-11-24)". With the relevant version
number and the release date.

or the more work solution:

A simple About window in the Project menu.
Either with the OWB image or without it. And with version information
in it.

Either way, I would really appriciate it.

Thanks

Thanks for the update.

I'm curious, what's new in AfAOS v4.3?

@orgin

Nice release and nice website!

This version starts up much faster than 2.13/2.14.
Almost instanteneous. (microA1 with OS4.1) Good work.

OT:
Can we please get rid of the falling SAM's? OWB gets really slow...
Thanks.

I don't know exactly what you would do.

However, I know GiggleDisk can automatically
mount NT drives...

Why would there be a change of icon style in OS v4.2?
I see no good reason. With the new GlowIcons in 24-bit, I feel AmigaOS has found the right style.

Or do you know something I don't?

Inclusion of AISS in OS v4.1 would have been a good
thing. At least the basic AISS support would have
been there, which is better than nothing.

For example, the OWB toolbar would have been there
in all its glory

Well, if AISS was bundled with the OS, then it would
not be necessary to provide a generic Glowicon toolbar
image...

@orgin

OT,

Was it you who painted them originally?

I seem to remember that they were used in a
mock-up OS4.0 screenshot from 1998, or somewhere
like that.

I also remember them being shown in the Swedish
Amiga magazine called AmigaInfo...?

@Kicko

About AmiStart author and why it's been difficult to
reach him.

I read a post on aros-exec.org recently from him
where he had been in an accident (can't remember
exactly) and had been in recovery for many months,
and hence could not respond to mails or code.

So maybe there will be some updates when he
is feeling better.

AmiSoundEd is nice. It could be bundled with the OS

@Rob

An interesting thought, it would be helpful if
the AmiPDF author or Rogue could shed some
light on this issue.

The question is whether enabling Cairo support
in an application automatically makes its faster/renders
quicker? I don't know if this is the case.
