IP address in CLI
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hi

Which command do i use to get the external and internal IP address of the current system.

For example my internal IP address may be 192.168.0.3

external could be 8.159.79.108

How can i get the internal and external IP addresses returned in the CLI.

I imagine doing in in C would be a nightmare :(.

@LiveForIt

According to wiki :
error detect action:

'The replacement character "" (U+FFFD)
The invalid Unicode code points U+DC80..U+DCFF where the low 8 bits are the byte's value.
The Unicode code points U+0080..U+00FF with the same value as the byte, thus interpreting the bytes according to ISO-8859-1.
The Unicode code point for the character represented by the byte in CP1252. This is similar to using ISO-8859-1, except that some characters in the range 0x80..0x9F are mapped into different Unicode code points. For example, 0x80 becomes the Euro sign, U+20AC.
'

'Many programs are specified to allow input in one of several encodings, for example UTF-8, UTF-16 or ISO-8859-1. In that case, the software would first check for UTF-8 correctness. If incorrect then it would check if it is UTF-16, and if not interpret it as entirely ISO-8859-1.'

Any unrecognised code just skip it.

@orgin

It would be good if it can handle automated silent cross-compile toolchain and install other software from its own installer.

Access to Internet eg wget commands
compress/decompress
MD5/SHA creation and validation
File dependency list
Install fail, online notify.
So we can have full developer package suites installed in one go :).

Yes, I was looking into crash protection and power outage protection, in an attempt to see if under such an event a 'delay in shutdown' could possibly be used, possibly by RAD: to attempt emergency auto save of work/ prefs/ transmissions.

I was thinking also into hibernation, instant on, restart system state which has windows, programs, tabs exactly as they were when a shutdown unexpected.

Disk based or cloud based incremental updating etc.

even gameplay freeze states etc.

what does it take for AmigaOS to handle all this ?

What are the official libraries / frameworks to access online servers / dbs etc ?

@LiveForIt

Thanks interesting, anything for power loss detection or delay to save files ?

I was just thinking about possibility to save anything recoverable to RAD: (not RAID) in rare cases or even file corruption detection. Maybe even a RAD: like device for the system to use in such event.

@ssolie
I forgot about serial !

Hmm so a serial dump redirect to a SystemRad: could be possible ? - just saw on the page ssolie gave - DumpDebugBuffer survives a boot.

Print queue in progress on power outage, delayed redirect to SystemRad: ?
Other ways to use such technology ?

Thanks @all

Amiga crash protection

I was wondering how the Amiga crash detection routines work ?
In what order ?

A was thinking whether Amiga could have a way to detect a crash and swap RAM: dynamic RAD: or any file being worked on to RAD: as a safeguard.

I know developers are supposed to work in RAD: to recover their files in case of a crash :)

Re: Constructive criticism of Hyperion

@orgin

The problem with picking up project is : users dont know how to program for AmigaOS 4 !!!!!

AmigaOS 3.x has Purebasic, Amos Pro, Amiblitz etc even assemblers - all that is LOST with the new OS4 systems.

Where is the Amiblitz equivelent for OS4
Where is a games creation suite for OS4, even Amos for OS4 would be enough for users to get started making games.

The Amiga chipset is what allowed users access the graphics hardware easier than any OS routine did - thats what helped create games fast, but also had its limitations.

Now AmigaOne systems are the same as other PCs for their GFX requirements, nothing unique anymore the magic is lost.

I dont know if a shader version of AAA chipset can be written - at least then we give game devs the appearance of banging hardware as the good ol days.

Amiga software used to run like 'magic', 'it just works' even Amos Pro does not need much to get running, no messing about with make files, configs or compile errors. no compat probs. nada. say what u will against it. but it darn well works perfect with 20 year old code !

Re: Amiwest news

This was a good Amiwest in terms of News and Release packs ready for download.

I liked the technical presentations of PowerPC and MPEG decoding from engineers.

I like the news the classic Audio card, new card could be a completely different audio beast it could have hardware SID chip, software could have auto connect to itunes ( such plugin can be reused in AmigaOS for not just audio but software purchase, or in game or in app purchases seen on mobile devices.

I rewatched the World Premiere of Amiga video on Youtube :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH78Rgmsvhw

Amiga found solutions that are currently hard to do on a PC and made it look easy on an Amiga.

Excellence in Audio, Video

Cyrus only missing a 'bang the hardware' GFX chip.
I dont know if the hardware audio chip can be 'banged'.

I know alot of people dont like hardware banging, but its Amiga programmmers playground :)

We need a chipset that can do this with enhanced GFX in HD easily :

http://amiga.lychesis.net/artist/LJL/ljl_Skier.html

That would blow peoples minds,or some way to access GPU of GFX card easily as Amos accessed GFX/copper FX for 2013.

Oh and I dont think having THREE models is a good thing, support just ONE so everyone is experiencing the same system, one system for developers to support and write games and software for.

Users dont like many models, in 3 years new technology would be out anyway. Solution One model thats cheepest and available in quantity, take least resources, people can buy at a decent price (sub 1k).

Go to linux geeks / privite linux experts for 'tweeks' and advice.
Go to marketing company and create promo material that can be used to sell the systems.
Then go to some TV channel and sell as linux boxes, giving flat fee for each model sold as an incentive.

- just my 2p :) AmigaDOS needs an alias find for search.

@thread

Hyperion and A-EON both need a Marketing team to promote AmigaOS, create News and press packs etc.

But also designing new OS themes and presenting documentation.

I would pay for a monthly subscription system where I receive a General News Bulletin and Developer snippets/docs.

This subscription would pay for the Marketing team.

The Amiwest Tutorials and learning sessions are great examples of this. Once could ask ex Commodore Engineers to contribute in some details etc. Give incentive devs to write documents.

Re: Xamos

Just popping in

I think Xamos is a good start for an OpenSource implementation of basic for All Amiga systems.
Extra things could be added as addons.

If AmigaDOS lasted until now and on most systems why not a standard easy to use programming language like basic.

Hollywood is too slow, no GUI, not opensource.

With Xamos GUI support could be added.

Amos has thousands of examples, they are excellent teaching resources.
Even PC coders are looking for an easy to use programming language for games.

I would prefer Amiblitz rewritten in C/C++.

We need a OS independant core.
GFX routines that are OS and datatype independant
OO

maybe even games oriented STD/header files

problem with C/C++ especially Amiga programming, when writing software one gets lost inside the OS functions.

When writing in SDL with a GUI, does one use SDL all the way, or can Intuition / Layers be interwoven ?

can i make SDL based gui gadgets for the OS ?
can I mix OpenGL.
can I make my gfx scriptable

How can I make dynamic GUI objects at runtime ?

there is alot we dont know about AmigaOS GFX/intuition/layers system

I have not seen a good tutorial on how to write a platform game in C/C++ for Amiga.

Dont get me started on networking and the rest ..

We need a system that works out the box.
