Re: Sam spontaneously hard-resetting :(

@ChrisH

I've recently suffered similar issues. I?m afraid that problem appears after I?ve got the Uptade2 installed?.
Yesterday I?ve got two hard resets on OS4 startup (after the kickstart load) and another one when downloading stuff from the OS4Depot. After that it was stable for
But I?ve got additional symptom: from time to time Ringho constantly displays error that the hub USB ?can?t initialize a device?.

Re: New Games possible?

@kas1e

Having mesa-galium port would be great, but it will take much time to have it ported... I think that in the first place we should consider simpler solutions. The simplest step we can do now is to add support for the hardware clipping and T&L to the existing Warp3D drivers (to make it be faster). It doesn't have to be "the most optimized solution in the world), it will be fine (for now)only to exclude CPU from the 3D computations... the minigl/warp3d overhead may be solved at the later time...

There're two questions:
- is it possible to enhance Warp 3D in a such way?
- is the Hyperion (I'm sure they have much more important tasks to do...:) willingly(*) to share their Warp3D sourcecode?...

(*)Of course, I mean - share the source code with the One that will take that attempt - not to make'em free..

The problem is not the CPU speed but the low speed of our drivers

I'm afraid that the CPU speed is the factor that still counts the most ? of course within the current state of the 3D acceleration layer in AmigaOS4.
There's been an interview with Hans de Ruiter recently (BlitterWolf, issue 11) and he stated that "Warp3D does not support hardware based transformation, clipping, and lighting". I understand it, that AmigaOS4 hardware 3D acceleration meets the standards of the year 1997 and still (too) much work is done via CPU...

I would like to recommend porting DROD. It's one of the best turn-based logical games. Similiar to Gish and Aquaria, this one too is a comercial title with a free sources...

There's also DROD RPG also availbe for porting...

Hello!

I did write an -Article- regarding games, Gnash and AmigaOS 4. Unfortunately, the article is written in Polish, google translation helps ? but only ?a bit?. To have a translated versions, please use a on-site ?flag? buttons (top-right).

I?m posting this information, because many good games were listed, that are all worth to play (of course, not with AOS4 ATM, but stil... ;). Hope one can find it (at least selected games) very interesting.

So, once again ? sorry for not having an English version, please enjoy selected titles:)

@Gebrochen

I have been playing Quake III on SamFlex800 (and R7500 unfortunately) recently. I?ve noticed a big slowdowns caused by the sound processing. The more sounds have to be played, the more slowdowns I get. It is playable for me only with sound turned off.
(and if I?m not wrong: It will not get any better until AOS4 introduce a new graphics sub-system.)

@HammerD

PPC 470 / A2 is also on it's way. Dunno about its availbility, but is quite interesting:
- 1,6 GHz
- Altivec + Fpu + DSP Mac
- cache L2 (in multicore design only)

OK. Thanks for your answer. There was some voices that the slot and soldered memory can't be used together. I wanted to clear that out.

@amigadad

Hello!
I have some related questions - does Yours Sam came with memory soldered oboard? I meet some claims that soldered memory is not an option anymore - have any clues if that is true?
What is the Sam's memory limit?

I wish that ACube will alter the Sam Flex design with AMCC 460EX 1,2 GHz cpu...

Hello!!!

Hello everyone!

My name is Konrad. I'm a new member here:)

Some words about me:
I live in Poland, am 25 years old and am going to finish my studies at the Warsaw High School of Technology soon (no, not the Missouri one;). I'm programmer skilled in computer graphics (3D graphics and architecture visualizations). Hope to bring some interesting tools to the Amiga:)
I promised last year to do a new version of Quake3 game for Amiga. It's still actual, but I had to 'paused' it in favor of my high schools final work... Wish to complete it soon.

Best regards,
Konrad
