Re: New project - Mixer

@hotrod

Actually I might be able to get the SBLive source code so if I can fix it in the Solo driver I should be able to fix it on the SBLive too.

What you can do in the meantime is set the PCM slider in Mixer to 50% and save it like that, that should match the current AHI volume, and then assign your volume keys arexx commands to control the Master slider as that one is processed at the end of the chain so it would control your AHI playback as intended.

@samo79

I had forgotten that the window position tooltypes only let you set the position of the popup window (the little window which pops up temporarily to shows the one slider affected by the volume/mute arexx command) so I'll have to add another set of tooltypes in mixer 1.30 to set the mixer window position.

The issue is that the volume changes each time I open the GUI, like it loads some settings just then.

I've noticed the same thing with the ESS Solo-1 card I'm testing here and I'm not sure the issue comes from Mixer itself as it sets the volume on the card just like it's supposed to (it bypasses AHI), while AHI for some reason sets it to ~50% when the slider is set to 100%.

Maybe the AHI driver isn't using the right maximum value to set the volume on the SBLive and the Solo-1 cards.

I can't do anything about the SBLive driver but I can fix the Solo-1 driver if something is wrong in there.

@328gts

I'd rather not add another NO_... tooltype for now, but I've just compiled a version with the Revo first in the list so it should do what you want.

Just give me your email address and I'll send it to you.

@spotUP

I found that the ENV: variable $Tunenet/Playing works fine with most streaming radio stations as they tend to use the format "Artist - Song title" in the "Title" field ("Track" in TN) while the _album and _artist vars end up with the url and station slogan.

But I'm not sure TuneNet or the MP3 plugin is reading the ID3 tag correctly because many of the songs on my hard drive show up with "local file" instead of the artist name and the file path instead of the album even though these fields are populated in the ID3 tag.

Something that I really miss in the GUI is a Pause button.

Re: OS4 Install in 25 mins ?

@angelheart

Chances are the 25 minutes estimate in that article also includes the time it took to read and follow the instructions, which can vary greatly from one user to the next.

For example, it took me two hours to update my beta system to 4.1, but that's because I copied everything manually in order to check the date, size and version of every single file to avoid overwriting newer files.

Imaging can't be used for a fresh install because the destination partition would have to be set to the exact size, filesystem and block size as the one in the image, but since there's no tool to resize the partition nor change the FS on the fly, it's better to let the user take his pick.

The best way to speed up the copy procedure is making sure both drives are using UDMA and enabling delayed flushing on the destination partition if it's using FFS2.

@Shadow

Nice, keep it up! (the port that it )

What about skipping/downgrading the EAX audio features to at least have some sound?

Like: '#ifdef HAS_EAX ...' and then use some regular 2D AHI calls for audio handling if HAS_EAX isn't defined.

@rwo

I'd say:

- webcam driver

- Palm & CE/WM driver to at least access the filesystem on these devices

- CM15a X10 interface driver, though I'd probably have to write that one myself as it looks like I'm the only one left using X10 on the miggy

@Snuffy
I'm not sure if your exclamation point means that it lasted "only" or "as much as" 3 years.

In any case, for a clock IC which is powered by the battery even when the machine is on, 3 years is normal.
If the system wasn't so picky about the voltage when it drops below 3V, it might even be bootable after 5 years.

In Benny's case however, since he pulls the plug, it could result in all sorts of wonderful and undesirable things...

Unless the machine is also grounded by an external peripheral like a printer or CRT monitor, pulling the plug also removes the earth/ground line, leaving residual electical/electrostatic charges "floating" in the machine with nowhere to go (and probably nothing better to do than create havoc).

Some bits appear to occasionally get stuck in the VIA registers, pulling the plug has proven to be effective at shaking them lose when the machine won't boot but maybe it can have the opposite effect too?

@benny

Make sure you don't touch the batteries with your bare fingers, they tend to go bad really fast fast if you accidentally touch both sides.

Another issue is may be that your battery is getting drained by some current leaks when the machine is completely unplugged, as can happen unless diodes are there to prevent it.
So unless you're adding/removing hardware or moving the machine, you might have better luck if you use the power button on the front of the case (if you have one) rather than pulling the plug or switching the PSU off on the back.

If you turn the power off via the front switch, the PSU still supplies some parts of the motherboard with power, as needed to support wakeup on LAN, timers and similar features. That current might keep the battery from getting drained as quickly.

@Ricossa

Arghh!
Consider taking a close look at that CPU module and setting it right once and for all, rather than risking damaging the very fragile connectors on the module and motherboard.

The module should be perfectly parallel to the motherboard.
If it is slanted towards the Articia and memory slots it wasn't correctly inserted all the way.

In that case you're better off removing the motherboard from the case to re-install the module properly.
Also inspect the megarray pins from various angles to make sure none of them are bent.

The safest way to install the module is to lower it very gently while keeping an eye on the connectors to make sure they're aligned, it should slide in effortlessly or it's not aligned/parallel, in which case pins could get bent.
Once it's as far in as it easily wants to go, it actually requires several pounds of pressure to be lowered all the way and it should become obvious when it stops with plastic against plastic.

Replacing the screws requires some care as well, to avoid damaging or shorting surrounding components.
It only needs to be tight enough to prevent the module from getting lose but not so tight that it would bend or put stress on the PCB.
Using spacers helps a lot there as they prevent bending the boards and also add better support for heavy heatsinks when moving the computer.
