Re: NetSurfAddressBook - StartAddressBook.nsrx - Rexx Execution Script Error
Just popping in
Just popping in

I was able to get the Rexx script to properly execute by modifying to:
Quote:
/* This script launches the NetSurf AddressBook and QuickLinks */

if open('env','ENVARC:AppPaths/NetSurf/','R') then do
path = readln('env')
close('env')
end

program='/NetSurfAddressBook/AddressBook'

address command path || program

Working! Looks like the script just needed designation that the program variable was a string as opposed to math.

NetSurfAddressBook - StartAddressBook.nsrx - Rexx Execution Script Error - RESOLVED
Just popping in
Just popping in

Good day everyone,

Just trying out the NetSurf browser for the first time. Timberwolf never ever ever works for me, but that's another thread...

I like the idea of the NetSurfAddressBook plugin so that Hotlist entries are more readily available, and I followed all the instructions for the installer, but I get an error when I try to run the Rexx script from the browser.

This is the script as it exist in StartAddressBook.nsrx:
Quote:
BEGIN
/* This script launches the NetSurf AddressBook and QuickLinks */

if open('env','ENVARC:AppPaths/NetSurf','R') then do
path = readln('env')
close('env')
end

program=NetSurfAddressBook/AddressBook

address command path || program
END

This is the error I receive from console when I attempt to run:
Quote:
+++ Error 47 in line 8: Arithmetic conversion error

I assume it has something to do with the program variable, but I'm not sure exactly how this should be designated. I tried removing the program variable and entering the full path of the executable, but I get an error there as well:

My attempt at a modification which isn't any better:
Quote:
/* program = NetSurfAddressBook/AddressBook */

address command path || Programs:Web/NetSurf/NetSurfAddressBook/AddressBook

Error:
Quote:
+++ Error 41 in line 12: Invalid expression

Anyone got any ideas how I can get this bad boy to work?

THANKS!

Re: SMTube : new version on OS4Depot

@ChrisH

I really like that script, that's a fantastic interface it creates. I still think I prefer ClipGrab or SMTube because they utilitze a different method to start downloads versus starting the download in Odyssey. I have issues sometimes where Odyssey freezes when there are multiple downloads started. But definitely will make use of the script, especially since there is no need for a special mplayer command, or Emotion to view the resulting downloads. ClipGrab doesn't have this player specific issue when it is used to download videos.

You are passing it incorrectly.

Just launch SmTube and copy/paste the URL in the search field (or you can search for words to get a selection of videos).

I'd advise to use either LiveForItMplayer or Emotion to play videos

Had no luck with LiveForIts mplayer, but Emotion is really nice. Do you know where I can purchase the full client? The website in the demo is now not operational.

I contacted a software dev company at the webiste http://entwicklers.org/contact/ which I assumed had to be the right location, but if you know how I can get in contact with them I'd be greatful.

@Hans

Quote:
Ah, we're getting somewhere. Workbench failing to reset the screen is caused by a program using the Workbench screen failing to respond to the "please iconify your window now" message it gets sent (at least, I think it's an iconify event). Workbench needs all windows to be temporarily closed before changing the resolution.

So, one or more programs you're running at that point are blocking the Workbench screen change. You just need to figure out which one(s). Please let us know which one, after you've figured it out.

BTW, have you tried changing the screenmode directly after rebooting the system? Assuming you don't have any of the problematic programs running in the background, it should just work.

Hans

Yes, I've tried to change the size immediately after the machine has booted, with no other applications open, and Workbench still gets stuck in a try to restart loop. Only native OS4.1 applications running and still no go. I think it may have something to do with my obscure monitor size?? I don't see how that could make a difference, but my monitor is 1536x2048. Maybe if it happens again, I could try to arbitrarily taskkill applications with SysMon until I find the one that is preventing the Workbench restart.

Re: SMTube : new version on OS4Depot

Before mentioning the errors I got in setting up SMTube, I got a question, is there a way to modify the window size of the mplayerGUI application when it executes the command to open the applications with the URL, some other MPLAYER_OPTIONS string?

I got mplayer to center itself on a black screen with this as the run command, it's pretty nice, but not if you want to multitask:

-vo cgx_wpa -cache-min 20 -autoq 100 -autosync 30 -zoom -fs

Got all necessary libraries and found ffmpeg.

I am getting these errors when I first execute the program when it reads through he font cache:
Fontconfig warning: "fonts:fontconfig/etc/fonts:fontconfig/conf.d/30-metric-aliases.conf", line 84: Having multiple <family> in <alias> isn't supported and may not work as expected

Fontconfig warning: "fonts:fontconfig/etc/fonts:fontconfig/conf.d/45-latin.conf", line 55: Having multiple <family> in <alias> isn't supported and may not work as expected

I was getting this output when using the non GUI mplayer with this option string= -cache 8192 -cache-min 20 -autoq 100 -autosync 30:
Movie-Aspect is 2.00:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
VO: [p96_pip] 600x300 => 600x300 Planar YV12

Movie-Aspect is 2.00:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
VO: [p96_pip] 600x300 => 600x300 Planar YV12
Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed?
For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option.

And that just loops until it hits that last line mentioning AVI files.

I tried:
smtube -ni -url http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRp9PSTKh_4
and
smtube -url http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRp9PSTKh_4 -ni
but this happens:
Resized Image

Just wanted to let the porting developer know it isn't processing the -ni argument correctly, it assumes it is part of the URL for the video, unless I'm passing it incorrectly.

Re: What is Best Audio Player for Streams Like Soma.FM
Just popping in

In response to everyone, the issue is not the clients, I think at least 90% of the time. The issue is the soundcard. I have contacted Amiga on the Lake and hopefully they will ship me a working card soon. The fact that it worked at all, i thought the issue must be software related, and I can get audio to play on Soma if its the first audio that the system generates, but it fails shortly thereafter. I jumped to a conclusion without clearly looking at the issue.

What is the process in AmigaAMP to open a websteam? I manually created a playlist and got to open one, but whenever I try to use the GUI, it only prompts me to open files.

I found the library I was looking for, just in case anyone else is looking for libXML2.so for SMTube, you can find it on Aminet, the links to both the SDK and compiled SObj are included below:

SDK Release:

Compiled Release:

@K-L

I run into problems with the download manager in Odyssey when I am trying to download many files at once. The whole of Odyssey goes into a mode where everything is very slow to respond. The files continue to download, and if you don't restart or close the browser, they will complete, but the download tool there on OS4Depot is much more reliable.

Thank you very much for the GUI recommendation, I tried it out and it doesn't play well with my machine, OS4.1 FE x5000... Sad...

The application launches and I can choose where I would like the app to place new downloads, but after trying to select a file to download, or if I use the search, grim reaper.

Here's the failure message if it will help anyone who released the app:

Re: What is Best Audio Player for Streams Like Soma.FM

I think part of the issue seems to be that the audio controller is failing during playback. Maybe not all the glitches I'm experiencing are a direct result of the software itself, but something to do with the way that OS4 is direction audio traffic. I've found simple, reliable, CLI based applications that playback the audio, but then I'll be doing something on Odyssey and all of a sudden playback on the speakers stops yet the software continues to decode the audio.

Thinking of contacting Amiga on the Lake to see if they can send me that more reliable soundcard they mentioned. As much as the system was, you think that reliable hardware would have been shipped inside the unit as opposed to an afterthought. Oh well, guess I get to keep the originals, so free stuff is nice, even if you never will likely use it anywhere else :P

What is Best Audio Player for Streams Like Soma.FM
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hello again,

I've been really trying to get a good stream going. I've had no success at all with any of the URLs for streams at Soma.FM and Odyssey won't support the code for their online player :(

TuneNet is buggy as hell.. I can't get it to play the included radio streams half the time, and I bought the zTools from the AmiStore because it had an application included called aTunes, but no offense to the developer, but it isn't much of a feat of engineering. All it seems to be is a frontend for other audio players, and I can't even get it to recognize the playlist that TuneNet created even though it's an included client to use by proxy.

I though AmigaAMP might have web streaming support, no dice. I downloaded some alternate application that I thought states it will allow the playment of audio streams via the AmigaAMP, but nothing but meditation when I try to execute the application.

Maybe others have had better success with different hardware like the Pegasys or x1000, and I don't mean to rant, but for me on the x5000 most current release, TuneNet is truly buggy.

Jack App-Store Asking for AppDir? Won't Work - Any Ideas?
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to get the Jack App-Store to work. I always get a connection error when I try to sign up and the application just gets stuck in some routine after I try searching for anything or getting a list.

It is looking for AppDir when it starts up and I assumed it's referring to EnvArc:AppDir, but after trying to assign the that location, it doesn't accept my assignment as a correct drawer.

Any help that you have would be greatly appreciated, there are just so many libraries that I run into that haven't made their way onto OS4Depot and I was hoping I may could find them there...

Thanks!

How to? Make Rexx script to run C:download and designate working directory and pass link?
Just popping in
Just popping in

Hello fellow Amigans,

I don't like the download manager that is bundled with Odyssey, it crashes sometimes and I prefer to use the download executable from OS4Depot. I thought I could simply move copy the executable to the directory where I store my installation lha files, and add "Install:dl %l" as a contextmenu item in Odyssey. It works great, downloading starts, but I have no idea where Odyssey or OS4 has determined that the download executable will be using as a working directory.

I litterally know nothing about Rexx, so coming into this blindly. Any guiding hand out there that can help would be greatly appreciated. And I would thank you in advance for introducing me into the world of Rexx scripting!

Thanks again!

AmigaOS does not have way close crashed or programs that locks up, so developer has to be 110% more sure it things works.

if the OS or a program locks up all you can do reboot, that's the only safe thing to do.

If you can get program to get unstuck depends on how program locked up, if program is waiting for signal it never got, you can signal the program to get it get unstuck, but as you do not know what signal is for you, it can result in a crash. If this is the case.

I've found two applications that will in fact close the window and "terminate" the process, but I think that the data still resides in the RAM until you actually reboot. The application, in most events, will not function after you "terminate" it, but at least the damn window is off the screen.

Using KillWin40 and Exorcist, especially like Exorcist! Thanks to the friendly guy on IRC who recommended them if your reading this!

Do the system freezes occur when you're using particular programs?

AmigaOS 4.x should be pretty stable, and simply switching the theme shouldn't affect the OS' stability. So I'm wondering if the freezes relate to specific software you're using, or if maybe your machine is overheating or has some other issue (like the graphics card is flaky or not plugged in securely, maybe the power supply is poor).

If the Crystal theme requires less GPU processing power, then graphics card and/or power supply issues are plausible.

Not certain which software was causing the glitch, I think it was mostly the stupid Boing ball screen saver causing me so much frustration :P what a load of crap that screenblanker is. Once I took it out of the functional screenblankers, I cleared up the major graphics glitch that I was experiencing. If Hyperion isn't aware of this software bug, they really should be, especially for new users that don't realize it's the screenblanker breaking their session. I just realized that the machine only broke like that when I left the room and rationalized it must be the screenblanker, and that was the only once I couldn't get to work in test. You'd think that would be the most stable since the damn animation has been around for over three decades :P

Which somewhat spoils the ExtMem party, doesn't it? Frankly, I see your finding as rather alarming. Could A-EON please comment on that, to clear things up?

My machine only sees 2.147 gigabytes of the 16gb that is actually socketed in the board.

Quote:
I don't assume that, but surely it would be disappointing if the X5000 didn't support more than 4GB? Which apparently isn't the case now that we know Spectre660 can run 8GB just fine.

I'm just curious if A-EON happened to have tested any 8GB(+) setups of the A5000, and if they're aware of any incompatibilities (which might affect tonyw's system).

My machine is brand new with FE and definitely has 16gb of RAM, but OS4.1 only sees the 2gb according to Ranger.

Well because Prefs files are IFF files, the etch section is typically a struct, if the memory inside the section is smaller than the a newer struct, will not fully filled with proper values. If data has been removed from versions of IFF file, then wrong data might end up in wrong place in struct data structure.

Many of the themes on OS4 are many years old, the OS has changed a lot, and there is no version system for IFF prefs files.

Crashes in IPrefs or other interesting things can happen with old prefs file new version of OS.

Adapting JOE or XML, is something Hyperion should consider.

Does this mean that I can't backup the Sys:S/Env-arc so that if my screenmode screws up and I can't get it to go back up to the correct resolution, I can't just overwrite that folder with my backup copy of the pref datafiles?

@Srtest

If you run the pattern test on the mode, does it display properly? And after it displays properly, if it does, when you click use or save, does Workbench try to restart and get stuck in a restart message loop? And after you manually restart, your back at the same resolution? This is how the problem has presented itself to me.

RadeonHD.chip 2.22

Resized Image
new upload photos

Yeah I know manually editing isn't a great idea, especially with my "extensive" knowledge of OS4 :P

But my though is rather, I will backup the Env prefs once I get the system showing the screen resolution that I want, that way if I get stuck at another resolution, I can boot up, overwrite the files on DH0, reboot, and presto... hopefully.
