Re: Bugs (V0.69i)

@Raziel and others

I have just been away from the computer for a week and have therefore not been able to answer your posts. I really appreciate the bug/crash reports so keep them coming.

Regarding Raziels points:

1. The reference will be fixed in the "real" version
2. You will need to download some truetype fonts to use. If you read some of the earlier posts regarding OWB you will see how to get all the standard microsoft fonts installed (havn't tried this myself). Also there are several downloadable fonts available from my homepage and others. Truetype fonts should be placed in fonts:_truetype dir (if I recall correct)
3. Ill look into that. Thanks :)

@Snuffy
4. Do you mean the document color? If so this is a feature I will try to implement later. Right now it has a somewhat low priority, but it is in the future design

@JosDuchIt
Within the foreseeable future I will make a complete overhaul of the import / export ability of CW. Therefore, I will hesitate making major changes of the current import / export. However, I will also try to implement clipboard handling, so that might solve your problems on a short term basis

@Joeled
I always spend too little time on CW . My guess is that I would be able to offer first version of CW with either DocX / ODF support within 6 months, but don't hold me on that. A thousand things could happen and I don't know the workload my job will give me in the same period

@Hans

Perfect, thank you for the link. Ill look into that

To others: Please know that I am considering either ODF or DocX (OpenXML), but not older formats like Doc. The reason for this is that the documentation for the new standards are much better

@Hans + Others

I wont mind concentrating on DocX instead of ODF, but i cannot do both, therefore if the majority of users want DocX, DocX it is
If anyone have any documentation or coding examples that would extremely helpfull

@Raziel
Copy and paste to clipboard is planned to be added very soon. Drag and drop will most likely not be included right away, but is on the to-do list

@unimon
The import / export have been slightly improved, but since I am considering a complete overhaul, this part of CW has not been altered too much. Thanks for the very generous donation

@kas1e
Thanks for the feedback. Ill look into it. Some of your points I can answer right away. PDF export is a one way process. AFAIK you wont be able to import PDFs into neither Word, OpenOffice, AbiWord or any of the existing WP on amiga. The reason is that PDF is not a document format. It is an electronic printed side. In the format you will have to guess which letters goes together with other words. This is why you will only open garbage.
You memory allocation is most likely to happen because you are running out of memory. Do you have virtual memory turned on? I was able to load a document on a 150 pages. It ate a lot of memory and needs speeding up, but CW did not crash.
Regarding the UNDO / REDO feature. CW supports endless cycles (limited only by available memory). I am happy that you like it, it took a lot of work
I am not sure what you mean about pull-down menus? Don't they work or do they work in a fashion that you did not expect? Could you please elaborate.
Even though Hollywood is a great program, CW is coded in c++ and Hollywood has not been used.

Cinnamon Writer 0.69 IV released
Just popping in
Just popping in

Dear All

As discussed in other forum, I am hereby releasing CW 0.69. Please notice, that this version displayed a particular nasty bug that I think I was able to remove. However, to be on the safe side, this version to treated as a intermediate or experimental version. Please test it and report any bugs or crashes that you find. This will allow me to release a stable version faster

You can download the new version on the homepage www.desler.be

@kas1e
The primary objective is to get proper ODF support. When that is done, I will try to find and port some command like tools to transform ODF documents to doc and RTF format. I would rather have one widely used future-proof document standard supported that 3-4 standards half-bad supported.
That being said, I would not turn down help from anyone who know Doc format and would like to help me support it

@ChrisH
I have been working very intensely on getting spell check in CW and it finally works , HOWEVER this feature will not be included in this coming release as I experienced some problems with the amiga specific aspell (There is nothing wrong with ASpell, the integration of CW and ASPell is a bit problematic). I hope to follow up real soon with full functionality and I have been receiving help from Edgar Scwan (author of AmiCygnix and porter of amiga version of ASPell). The next big step is integrating ODF support as you requested. However, this is a major undertaking and most likely I will publish several intermediate versions with minor updates and bug fixes. The long term goal is of course to have a WP that is comparable to competitors on other platforms.

@Mikey_C / Mason
Thanks for the Cinnamon forum. I really appreciate it.

@All
It turned out that I jinxed it by saying I was going to have it ready last week. I discovered a bug, but I havn't been able to fix it yet. However, even with the bug, the latest version is still rather stabile (moreso than older versions). I will therefore try to upload an intermediate version as soon as possible for people to try. I will appreciate all feedback for this version, so that when I kill the big bug, I also will have removed all the eventual small pesky ones . Ill post updates in this forum

@Mikey_C
A CW forum on A.net would be really appreciated. Thanks for the possibility.

@All
Regarding the stability. I cannot guarantee that the coming version is bug free, but it runs much more stable. If you however find a bug, please report it and I will be happy to hunt it down

I don't know if anyone has said something, but the timing is perfect . I expect to release version 0.69 of Cinnamon Writer within the week. I hope that most of the bugs are removed and the release would most likely be dependent on my workload of my "real" job.
The new version is much faster and is much more stabile. CW now also support spell checking, BUT this feature will not be included in this version since I have problems with ASpell.

Stay tuned and thank you for your interest

Cinnamon projects
Just popping in
Just popping in

Since I released Cinnamon Writer 0.52. I have received a number of donations that have allowed me to start Cinnamon Projects. Thank you to the ones who have donated.

Cinnamon Projects is an attempt to speed up the development of Cinnamon Writer (CW) by taking advantage of some of the brilliant coders who would like a break from their own projects or who can reuse some of their previously written code earning a sum of money.

A typical project is a well-defined piece of functionality that will be integrated into CW. The projects are made available on this homepage when the resources allow it (When donations have been received). The coder can freely use the code in other projects, commercial or not. However, it is the responsibility of the coder to ensure that there are and will be no restrictions related to use of the piece of code in Cinnamon Writer.

New projects will be announced on the homepage together with a description of the wanted functionality and the amount, which will be paid upon successful completion of the project. Interested coders are encouraged to contact me through the supplied email where after I will evaluate if the coder is serious about the request. Together with the coder, we will work out the exact API of the code and timeframe for the project. If the task, timeframe and amount in question are acceptable for the coder, the project will change status from ?Open? to ?Under development?. At this stage, no new coders are interviewed for the project. Once the project is finished, the funds will be transferred to the coder.

Also notice the added menu "bugreports" where bugs can be easy reported.

There is a link on my homepage desler.be. However, unless people really wants to give me beer (mmmmmm... Beer...), I would feel better if people waited until they tried the new version when I publish it. :)

@Mikey_C
I am planning on sending this version to the betatesters toward the end of the year and then releasing the public version in the beginning of next year (of course a bit later if major bugs are found).
Cinnamon Writer is planned to be free. But people are encouraged to give donations if they find the program usable and would like to see improvements. I have no hope of becoming rich from this project, but I will never refuse a free beer :)
