With my 060 I never felt sad because some games did not run.
Maybe I was less interested by old games than you. Or using WHLload games was more than enough for me.

I never heard OS4 programs were compiled with GCC versions newer than v4

Same on a big HD, always quick format.
Slow format was required only on floppies.

First of all you should have no corrupted files. So I guess you have a problem on your partition.
I suggest that you install elsewhere, or find a way to backup/format your partition and start over.

Yes, I had the same idea. Leave the gfx card alone, soft-reset the OS and then send some commands to the gfx card as usual. It should process them as it was not reseted.

But I bet it's not that easy, right?

It is so rare I need to have a copy with a differnet timestamp than the original, that I prefer a copy comand to create an a clone of the source.

On the 460 I use no fan at all in the winter and a fan on molex in the summer and it runs at a higher frequency than the 440.

You can always write old Lisp-like installation scripts. They still work on OS4.1

The only solution would be not to use curl and get your file directly from Arexx.
You can have an idea of how it works reading the sources of W3S, the Arexx web server.
