AmigaOS 4.1.6 and prism2.device (AmigaOne)
Just popping in

Hello folks!

I had AmigaOS 4.1.2 running on my AmigaOne XE G3 and my wireless Network card http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/c ... ?cPath=32&products_id=158 working fine with prism2.device and WEP encryption.

However after the update it seems that my Internet conneciton is lost.

I suppose that I should chekc out with latest prism2.device:

http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?fun ... driver/network/prism2.lha

Can someone confirm this? That the older prism2.device is not working with 4.1.6 and that the new one should be used?

ps. On Os4depot.net I can not find the older prism2.device version, only the one added on 08 Jan 12 exists.

AmigaOne XE. Need some help.

Hello Amigans.
Time to ask for your precious help!

The AmigaOne XE of a friend dropped dead. The technician that tries to fix it says that the machine could be saved after some fixes but he wants to be sure about some things.

He needs a count that should be done on a working AmigaOne XE board using a multi-tester set on the scale of Ohm. The computer should be turned OFF and UNPLUGGED (OUT of socket) during the counting, the processor should be (of course) on board.

The counting should be done between the two marked points on the photo.

There should be some clue on the multitester's screen on Ohm or Kilo-Ohm or even the clue of the infinite resistance (practically nothing).

The problem is that no one around our place got a working AmigaOne XE board! All my Amiga friends got Micro AmigaOne models. So I wonder if anyone of you can do this little task.

Someone owning an Amiga One G4 would be the man but I guess an AmigaOne XE G3 would also do the trick.

@ace

Thanks! You are my man!

well I installe dOpera it rocks!

AND

I did this:

Quote:

Go to menu - system - software sources - Third Party Software - add

Cut and paste this

deb http://www.backports.org/debian lenny-backports main contrib non-free

Close Software Sources it will probably fail, to update correctly but don't worry just close it and open a terminal.

su
add password

apt-get install debian-backports-keyring

or
gpg --keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys 16BA136C
gpg --export 16BA136C | apt-key add -

or
wget -O - http://backports.org/debian/archive.key | apt-key add -

THEN
apt-get update
apt-get install-t lenny-backports install openoffice iceweasel

Cheers
ace

But I get an error on the LAST command.

Quote:
apt-get install-t lenny-backports install openoffice iceweasel

It does not work with the install-t part. It does not recognize it, it reports an error (wrong parameter or something like this).

Well I wanted to ask i there is a simple step by step guide -similar to the great guide created y Elwood- for installing Linux on AmigaOne. And a link to a suitable tested ISO will be good.

Also wanted to ask if OpenOffice 3.2 is available for Linux PPC.

Thanks.

@gerograph

Thanks for the tips! Did it already man! And yes I can select session so this is perfect. KDE is faster than Gnome and I am going to keep ti as default for my SAM. I am now on my way to install some software! Thanks again for all the tips!

Well it works now and I would like to THANK everyone that helped. I edited xorg.conf based on the given examples and I am on Linux now.

Is there an alternative and perhaps faster environment to Gnome? It seems to be a little slow. Any suggestions?

EDIT: And is there an option / way to have both Gnome plus another environment and choose session on the login? I have done in my PC but now I do not remember how.

Thanks for the info.

@Elwood

Thanks a lot.

I added this subsection taking a -found on the web- xorg..conf file. I add some basic modes using depth 1 and depth 24. I also turn to "false" an option that tries to auto detect the monitor characteristics. (modes: 1280x1024, 1024x768, 800x600,640xx480).

Still got the black screen. Although after turning the auto detect option into "False" the result was a static Black Screen -some kind of improvement? you can say so..." as at the first case the monitor was auto turning on and off as the procedure of auto detection was going on and was failing.

@all

Has anyone of you came across this problem in the past? I mean I guess the reason for this is the adapter.

I am sure that many people are using this adapter with VGA cables to standard VGA monitors (without the adapter the board will not work). So how you make your Linux installation work?

ps. in case you have added the modes by hand a copy of your xorg.conf file would save the day.

@Elwood

Thanks

But there is no option not to use the adapter. The SAM only got a DVI output and I got no monitor with DVI input :( (in this case I could have use a DVI to DVI cable I guess).

Can you please mention what I have to edit exactly in this file?

ps. i guess you mean xorg.conf right?

hello Amiga Maniax!

I got a SAM 440EP first model no flex.

I got a problem with my SAM 440 EP and Debian Linux.

I am installing using the latest netinst ISO form Acube's site. I am using the PArthenope Bootloader and everything goes like a charm during the installation.

But when I am finally booting the system form PArthenope there is a problem. System is unable to display graphics, I mean it starts booting and when it goes on gfx mode -probably n log in screen-- all I get is a Blakc Screen.

Please note:

1. I Have not got any extra graphics card on my SAM

2. I tested with three different monitors same result.

3. I am using the DVI to VGA adapter given with the SAM Board.

4. Bering in the Black Screen, I switched to console mode and edited the xorg.conf file changing the device section (I converted the field "Radeon" To "Vesa"), but now I get an error in the log file that there is no Vesa Module installed.

su -
<enter your root password>
cd /etc/X11
nano xorg.conf

Is there anything that I can do to go to the GUI?

Thanks
