Re: CATWEASEL MK4 PLUS

@huepper

Thank the man who sent me a Peg II to port the drivers to MorphOS. :) If it weren't for him I could never have gotten it to work.

Inidentally, you know what was wrong? The Peg II hardware for some reason set the PCI capabilities to nothing at all! No memory access, no busmastering, no IO, nothing... so nothing happened.

All fixed now, though, have fun. :)

@Raziel

The problem is the prefs program is a small part of it. :) I haven't tried using the Amiga keyboard/mouse yet at all - I think AmigaOS kind of supports the keyboard or something, but I don't know of mouse support.
That kind of thing really needs to be done by the Hyperion people....

@328gts

For the 1200 disks I'll need a Sashimi output to know what's going on... actually, could you do the same for the C64 too? I wonder if your disk drive is out of alignment on your 1200 and your 500 is just about close enough to read it... but I need to see a Sashimi log to be sure. I did one build which accidentally had the C64 disabled, but I think the latest version is ok. I'll try and check over the weekend.

For the 1200, though, did you try what I suggested a few posts above?

@Raziel

Sorry, been rather busy doing AROS stuff for ClusterUK of late. I also got proper Catweasel keyboard and mouse support into Janus-UAE.... something I want to do with AOS 4 but I need some missing files for the AmigaInput drivers.

As for the Catweasel stuff on AOS 4... I'll update it when I get round to it. :) I figure at least it's generally usable at the moment but if you want something particular for me to look at....?

@328gts

Are you sure you used FFS?
Try making an image with SuperDiskImage - if you get green blocks, then the disk format is correct- which means the filesystem probably isn't. Have a look at the first bytes of the first block and see if it's an FFS disk. If the blocks are red, they're not AmigaDOS disks. Do the disks work on an A1200 still?

I'm assuming you're using DD disks, not HD ones (which would behave as DD in an A1200 but not a PC disk drive)...

@mbrantley

I use a 6581 and an 8580 in my CW, so there'll be no problems. Only problem is the amount of signal noise really! If you get mono sound or only one SID, use the headphone jack on the back. The latest prefs version has test buttons. :)

@spotUP

It initialises the device (catweasel.device, not catweaselsid.device), then plays a 2 second-long fading sawtooth sound, after which it resets the SID again.
Have you tried with the SID in both sockets? Can you send us a photo of the Catweasel so we can check your jumpers? Is the SID tested and known working?
Also try installing Mixer if you haven't already. Also try running the AHI prefs and look at your default unit (unit 0?). Set the input to Mixer and raise the monitor value on all your units. Maybe it's an AHI thing...?

On my page www.retroreview.com/iang/Catweasel/ you'll see mention of a new version of the Prefs program - it now has "Test SID" buttons.

I've had a heck of a job trying to get both SIDs to play through the internal audio connector, though - I'm not certain it actually works on the hardware! What you can do is use the headphone jack, and it works perfectly, both SIDs. On the internal jack, the left channel only occasionally plays, and is usually very soft. Very strange.

Of course the non Plus versions I don't think have an external audio connector....

Therefore, if possible, use the external jack. Otherwise, if you must use the internal one, try with both SID sockets!

@kas1e

Strange.. it worked this morning for me.

Make sure your input is connected to a Line In or a Mic In input on the soundcard.
Put gain up to full.
Start the monitor (make sure it says "monitoring" in the status)
Open the settings, and try each input. Also ensure that you have a valid sound input too. You should hear the sound when it's monitoring, too.

You are definitely connecting your sound input to the Line-In/Mic in of your VIA AC97 sound card aren't you...?

Try playing with settings in the AHI prefs too, try setting all units to the right one.

@kas1e

When you start monitoring, you can change the settings... including the input. Remember to make sure you have the gain turned up though! You'll see the meters go up when it's receiving a signal.

It can be uploaded to OS4depot but I want it to go through a bit of testing first..

Weird. It can't find any inputs. Check your AHI unit 0 in your AHI prefs and make sure it supports recording....

Have you ever recorded on your system before?

@kas1e

Yes, it doesn't let me change my amigans.net email address for some reason! Use ian.gledhill@btinternit.com (but nEt not nIt) to contact me.

I actually tried whipping up an OS4 version this morning but something's different somewhere.... AHI got 8 inputs for the soundcard but the names were all over the place, and there's something funny with the GUI handling. Must be some differences somewhere I've unwittingly put in the AROS version.

I'll be able to sort it, but I don't always have much time in the evenings so feel free to hack it up in the meantime. Email me if I can help (or I can go onto IRC at any time during the day if you like).

Re: CATWEASEL MK4 PLUS

@328gts

First thing is to make sure that both SIDs are working. You should be able to test this by changing the catweasel preferences to enable different SIDs on their own... i.e. enable SID 0, start x64, test the SID, close x64, enable SID 1 and disable SID 0 and repeat. You should get sound out of the other speaker.

To run it with stereo SIDs, enable both SIDs in Catweasel prefs, then in x64 SID preferences, enable Stereo SIDs and specify the base address to use. Then in Stereo SID player, press the Commodore key (usually left control I think) to get to the settings menu and check the second SID address. Make it the same as the address specified in the Vice SID settings.

Then try running a tune! Remember, though, StereoSIDPlayer requires an NTSC C64! If you run it in PAL, it'll freeze the tune after a few notes.

@MH2

Check page 4 of the manual (there's a copy at http://siliconsonic.de/t/catweasel-usermanual.pdf if you need it). You'll see that you for an 8580 you need the single jumpers open, and the paired jumpers closed. There's pics in the manual.
Let us know how you get on :)

The Catweasel software is just catweasel.device and catweaselsid.device - it's pretty unlikely to affect anything else!
