My sincerely felt condolences to his friends and family... certainly way too young to die.

Quote:The compositing engine in AmigaOS 4.1 could down-scale and filter the screen from any size to, say, 640x480, and that could be just small enough. So is screen casting possible on existing OS4 capable hardware, or just down scaling screen grabs? As a developer of some repute, what do you think would be required?
It depends on your definition of "possible". I haven't done the math, but downscaling a screen to 640x480 is very fast (a few milliseconds). The difficulty is getting the data into main memory for further processing. Let's say you scale to 640x480x16. That is 614400 bytes per frame. At a target capture rate of, say, 30 FPS, this makes for 18433200 bytes per second (around 17 MB). This is well within the practical bandwidth limits of the AmigaOne and/or SAM440ep. For 1280x1024, the required bandwidth would be around 78 MB/s (or around 150 for 32 bits). In theory still possible, but in practice, it won't work. The 640x480 case would probably work, since it would still leave some time free for actually doing something that is worth capturing. Anything else will probably be out of question. If you want to actually transmit the stuff in real-time, it will be a good deal harder, I don't think that any Amiga currently can encode real-time video. But recording it to a harddisk file and encoding it later might work. Note this is theory until someone proves or disproves it.

It will be up again in a month or so. I am overhauling the whole site right now.
Sorry for the inconvenience. To quell all possible rumors, it does not have anything to do with lawsuits or the like. It's a purely technical matter.

@Akiko
The Radeon driver in AmigaOS 4 relies on the BIOS to set up the card, so it won't work as-is on the Classic. I'll look into this if we release an update for the Classic version (note the 'if'; I don't know if or when one is planned).

@Atheist Quote: I don't quite get that. Why would you want to emulate an ArticiaS chip instead of designing a new hardware? I mean, after all, with the reference designs out there, it is hardly rocket science to design a new board, and it won't be any more expensive or cheaper than an emulated approach...

@nexus Quote: There's no AOS4 verson of all hyperion games (Shogo,HereticII,Freespace..) or am i wrong? There is a version of Freespace, but without 3D hardware support, which isn't too much of a problem since the game already ran in software mode on the 604, and works fast enough on any next-gen hardware. Quote: So, for games WOS is still a must. Are you talking about Quake I or II? I am quite sure that there is a new version of Quake II. @joerg Quote: AFAIK the only Warp3D game without software 3D support is WipeOut2097 and that one is working (the 3D gfx parts, not everything else of it). On Voodoo3 without any problems, and IIRC only very minor gfx errors were reported on Radeon cards. The problems on the Radeon are due to color keying. When Sam Jordan ported Wipeout, he added chroma keying to the Warp3D API but did it in a way that only works well for Permedia cards, and cannot be reliably reproduced for Radeons. I had intended to look into a workaround, but never got the time for it.

That doesn't have anything to do with the SAM. There are general incompatibilities with WOS programs and Radeons. But plainly, for the few WOS programs around where there is no AmigaOS 4.x native version, I am not going to bother with these.
The problems on the SAM regarding Warp3D programs will manifest itself in false colors (greenish tint etc).

Be aware that on the SAM440ep, you might still see a problem with Warp3D, namely wrong colors in textures. I haven't gotten around to dealing with that problem yet (and yeah, it is one of the reasons this is still a beta version)

You should really not use Warp3D directly but go for MiniGL. We do not want to encourage any further use of Warp3D, since it will not be around much longer as an API. OpenGL however will be the future.

Good thing Firefox has the flashblocker extension. I have one page I frequently visit that is so full of Flash ads that my Windows PC would grind to a halt (not that it wouldn't do that sometimes out of no apparent reason anyway)...
