Re: Amiga netbook?

Not too shy to talk

I'll use my AOS4 netbook when it's out for all kinds of stuff in all kinds of places. From WookieChat to TVPaint, I bet it'll do well with lots of stuff. And the all kinds of places can include my bed or my back porch, my favorite restaurant or a hotel room.

Gero, OK... thanks. I had a bunch of IFF images in a sequence I made with Imagine that had no file name extensions. iBatch seemed to not take them until I renamed them all with extensions.

I mostly use your program to batch convert bunches of IFF images into JPG images, but with every update I note that I am really underutiliizing iBatch. It does more and more with every release. Keep going!

Quick question... Can iBatch work on a directory full of images (IFF format) that do not have file extensions, or are file extensions required?

I love posts like this one. This event looks like it was a great opportunity to showcase what we've been up to in this community of ours to people on the "outside." Great job in seeing the opportunity and taking advantage of it.

I'm also interested in hearing more about the solar panels.

Support for playback through actual SID chips on a CatWeasel would be awesome.

And what is the latest... Does streaming stations with TuneNet work through any current method?

Oops, misspoke. In fact I got latest OS4 version from OS4Depot. Thanks, everybody! At the moment on my Sam RunInUAE is not the boss of ADF files, but I may change it back. Might be handy to have a toggle for this. But I think something was hosed with my earlier diskimage installation as I could not even manually mount an adf.

That put me back on course. Have reinstalled DiskImage and all is well with mounting ADF images on my little Samiga.

Mounting ADF images -- I'm doing something wrong

I've gone off course somewhere. Seems like used to I could doubleclick on an ADF icon and have the disk image mounted on the Workbench screen.

So I downloaded a couple of CUAmiga cover disk ADFs with Imagine 4.0 on it because I want to see if I that works with OS4.1u3 like someone mentioned. But RunInUAE tries to get hold of them. (Hi, Chris!). So I turned off RunInUAE for now but can't seem to get DiskImage to mount the ADFs.

Do I need to change things in DefIcons? DEVS:? Elsewhere? I've tried MountDiskImage command from the shell, but I keep getting a requester saying to insert IDF0:

Any ideas where I'm going wrong? Thanks!

I imagine Simon was implying they might stop including it IF it had problems with some future update to OS4 (and would likely be too much trouble to fix).

So probably best to find a different sound card now, rather than waiting until/if the driver stops working.

I'll stick with what's working for now, I guess. Took me a bit of tracking down to get this card with a supported chip set as it is. This is after spending a considerable amount of effort trying (and failing) to get the record function to operate correctly on the Sam440 built-in sound, after having spent a considerable amount of effort figuring out how to connect an input to the motherboard header. If I need to move to some other card in the future I'll have to look at what is currently supported at that time.

Sound too grumpy? Don't really mean it to, but there were some hoops to jump through and now that it's all working for me I don't want to disrupt things. But I am monitoring progress, as I said, of Sam460 device drivers in case I jump in that direction.

I've been using that card with a Sam440, but I am monitoring progress of the Sam460 sound driver situation because I don't know for certain what I'm purchasing next.

Ctrl-Alt-Alt makes a cold reboot while Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga makes a warm reboot. It has always been like this on OS4.

Guess I just never noticed. Good to know now, and I am exceedingly happy to be able to swap the modifier keys.

Happy to report that, with the new version, a couple of lines typed in at the Uboot prompt does swap the alt and Amiga keys. Sollie told me what to type during last night's Ashachat, and now I have two Sam440s with "proper" Amiga-style keyboard layouts.

I do have a couple of those Apple keyboards with the calculator-style keys but I don't like them. They came with my Macs.

I'm using Das Keyboards where I can, and Das sent me blank keycaps to use in place of the Windows keys. Those are my "Amiga" keys, now in the right places.

I'll reply from home later with the correct lines to type at the Uboot prompt.

Thanks. I will try out mmkeyboard tonight. Not sure of a uboot option but will investigate. My keyboard of choice (even on my Mac) is the Das Keyboard, and I now own four of them.

I have noticed that at some point that Ctrl-Alt-Alt will now reset my Sam440 machines as well as Ctrl-Amiga-Amiga (I'll call those keys nothing else!).

And the Alt keys are right next to the spacebar, where the Amiga keys are situated on an authentic Amiga keyboard. So if I could remaps the Amiga keys to be where the Alt keys are (next to the space bar) for things other than system reset, I could have a "proper" Amiga keyboard.

Is there a utility or some setting for this?

iBatch is getting better and better! It's good, too, to be back on Amigans.net. FedEx is about to deliver the latest two issues of Amiga Future along with a piece of hardware I ordered. Looking forward to the upcoming issue with the iBatch tutorial.

Re: Lightworks going open source
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@Elwood,

From what I've gleaned, this was a top-dog program sold as part of high-end, turnkey setups and even shared an Oscar award for innovation with Avid back in the mid-90s when NLE was new. Then it changed owners more than once and lost a large amount of market share and seemed headed for extinction.

Now EditShare has bought it and seems to be employing a strategy of cleaning it up a bit and documenting the source code before releasing it to open source. EditShare aims to make money selling plugins, hardware controllers, etc.

I've not been able to do anything with it because the just-released beta lacks codecs to deal with any of my video files. But what I'm reading on the EditShare forum indicates they will make it work with open source codecs in coming weeks.
They are also aiming to make it work with a wider range of hardware than whatever it currently supports.

But, like I said, so far I haven't been able to make it do anything.
