7 .

@tboeckel

I use MikTeX on PC too. Works very nicely for me so far. Don't think I would want to have to install all that stuff manually.

LaTeX for OS4?
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

I just wrote my first LaTeX document on PC/Windows (wrote the .tex file in Crimson Editor, then converted it to PDF through pdflatex). The document was, in case anyone's interested, a laboratory report for my physics studies (named permittivity of vacuum).

LaTeX is in fact very useful for this purpose since you can write mathematical formulas so that they appear more or less as you would write them with pen on paper rather than as hard to read sequences like:
Quote:

y = -1/2*gt^2

that they would appear as in a normal text editor.

In LaTeX the above formula would be written something like:
Quote:

$y = -{1 \over 2} g t^2$

and would produce a much more readable result.

I'd guess it's also useful for other types of documents.

It would be nice if I could do this on OS4 too.

I tried using PasTex from Aminet with no luck (crashed).

I also tried porting it myself some time ago without much success. Lots of problems getting the build system to work first. Then there were (IIRC) some problems with some missing functions/whatever which caused me to give up (more or less).

So anyone want to try porting this to OS4?

Am I the only one interested in this?

@Atheist

Depending on what kind of program it is I might be interested. Maybe you can PM me with some more details?

Also does it involve networking code? If it does you may have to find someone else as I don't have any experience with that yet.

As for encryption I'm thinking AmiSSL should be good enough for this?

Re: Base datatype classes in OS4

@Chris

I ported the v41 sound.datatype over to OS4 a while back, think I might still have it left here. I didn't release it though because of some small problems.

Also I had to remove most of the 16-bit sound code because I couldn't find the #defines anywhere IIRC.

As for the sound.datatype on OS4Depot, that one would have been nice in my opinion. Unfortunately the author seems to have disappeared.

It would also need a version bump so it would be possible to support the new features without breaking compatibility with the OS sound.datatype.

Do you VBCC instead of GCC?

I use them both.

VBCC for my own programs as well as ports from m68k-amigaos.

GCC for ports from other systems (Wesnoth, etc.).

Nice. However, Cygnix interferes with my SDK install. I hope that this problem can be rectified because currently I have Cygnix's entry in the user-startup disabled.

I have Cygnix installed here and haven't ever had to disable any assigns in order to use the OS4 SDK.

Or do you mean the Cygnix SDK interferes (I haven't installed that here)?

@Valiant

Apache IMO. It's really quite easy to set up and use under OS4 and it has PHP support builtin. In fact I used it to try out the php code for my website locally (under OS4 with AWeb as browser) before uploading everything to my website at a500.org.

Not sure though, i seem to confuse these two!

No military service for me at least . Luckily for me I managed to avoid all that.

I do have my physics studies that I need to attend to every now and then though. But I kind of like those.

I heard somewhere that there is no specification for the speed of replay, is that correct?

It isn't. There is a delay that you can set for every frame that is in 100 Hz ticks (i.e. 10 ms). Otherwise it defaults to 100 fps IIRC.

You can check the gifanim.datatype sources on OS4Depot/Aminet for more details.

The location is based upon suffix examination : for example I have my email address xxx@xxx.fr -> I'm shown in France, BUT my ISP is using a domain name ending by .net for it's IP registration thus on the country page I'm shown being in US (even if my real IP is effectively registered in France).

The nick substitution feature helps with that. Just send an e-mail with the correct details as described on this page:

http://www.acggbg.org/proxy/

F.e. my e-mail suffix is .org but the substitution script knows that I'm from Finland so that's what shows up in the stats.

Re: feature of the PS2 port?

@lazi

As ssolie said never hotplug a ps/2 peripheral. It is not supported by the ps/2 protocol. At best it just won't work after plugging it in at worst it can damage/destroy your computer or the ps/2 port at least anyway.

My first A1200 was destroyed in this way. At first the keyboard just wouldn't work even after turning off/on the computer, next it wouldn't boot at all and a couple of tries later not even the harddrive/cd-rom would start up (apparently the PSU had failed for some reason).

IIRC AWeb uses C:Ed as external text editor by default. This can be changed in one of the settings windows to f.e. Notepad, which does allow highlighting and copying of text. This is what I have done here.

Install wave.datatype from OS4Depot. Unless the wav.datatype has improved a lot from update #4 then my wave.datatype is still better. If you have problems with my wave.datatype then contact me and I will try to fix them.
