Thanks for the 'bug' report. Under what situation do you get that? (I haven't noticed it.)

It happens on startup when odyssey previously exited cleanly and deleted it's session file - privacy settings, delete session at exit.

@kas1e

Is there any chance of getting a major but simple odyssey bug fixed? If you have 'start downloads automatically' enabled it totally bypasses the checks to see if the file already exists and overwrites it so there is no chance to resume failed downloads or change the name.

Working here...

is "[File] Can't open file 'PROGDIR:Conf/sessions/session.prefs' in 'r' mode. Error: object not found" left over debug output?

@xenic

Using the first port it finds is never a good idea, you should use the highest port number. For example, a second copy has been started because the first has crashed or locked up etc. so pumping new files and the dead version won't do a lot.

@ChrisH

I was just pointing out the odyssey port problems as IBrowse and Netsurf don't allow multiple copies.

@xenic

Arexx for odyssey would not be simple as it can be run multiple times, each with it's own arexx port.

Which port should be used if multiple ports are found?

How does a user tell which port is for which window?

You would need yet another requester to guess which port to use.

But then you're missing all the fun, fiddling with scripts and customizing is the amiga way. People are getting to lazy to think with other OS's doing everything for them (usually forcing them to do it their way or not at all).

Solving little things like this is a good introduction to using arexx scripts, it might be a challenge but the user will learn things which will help solving other problems.

There's nothing stopping you using an arexx script from within urlopen. eg. I have an entry in the prefs like this:

file Tab
Client name: Odyssey
Client path: s:arexx/odyssey.rexx
Command line format: "*"file:///%s*""

http(s) tabs are the same except file:/// is replaced with http(s)://

As far as I know it just shows the splash logo while odyssey is booting, something for amiga users to see so they know it's started and don't try running it ten times more until something happens.

Amiga users are too used to their software opening in under a second as most does, programs that don't give a window with a bar showing you how far they've got (yam and dopus5 for example) unlike sitting in front of a mac and watching the spinning pizza of despair for what seems like several hours before anything shows up.

If you are looking for a gfx card, I got an R7770HD from a cex shop for £35, with a 2 year warrenty which made it affordable for me.

To add a search engine to IBrowse:

Go to yahoo and do a search for simething simple eg, derf

copy the url of the result page eg:

https://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?p=derf&fr=yfp-t-903

Open prefs, expand GUI, select URL Toolbar

Enter Yahoo in Title:
Enter the url you copied in URL: and change derf to %s
Change the button if you want.
Click Add

Don't forget to save your settings.

For the games side look at Huno's ports:

http://hunoppc.amiga-projects.net/sof ... es%5B%5D=23&sort_by=title

Quake2 HD is excellent, 1024x768 with much higher quality graphics, loading time is quite a bit longer so make sure you use SFS rather than FFS.

I've not tried wipeout.

Also check out BSzili's odamex (on os4depot) and other ports. I'm running Ultimate doom with odamex on a 1920x1080x32 screen, very smooth and fast I just wish it supported Strife.

@apsturk

I have to disagree, they do work and are needed unless you have access to every model as they all have little quirks as quite often bugs only show up on specific hardware.

Of course some beta testers are not as active as others but are essential as they do things to software no dev would ever consider, a good way to make software as idiot proof as possible.

Does 1.36a work ok on os4? I only have 1.3h from tosec and the no longer working early OS4 ports as my original floppies died years ago. Do you know where I can get the update?

There was an OS4 port of superbase started way back in 2004 but it never got anywhere and the beta versions I tried timed out in about a month iirc. Last activity in the change log was feb 2005.

Even my laptop with an RV350 back in the day was only okay-ish with NWN, yeah. KotOR and KotOR2 were basically unplayable.

FYI: The machines with R200 cards (SE, XE, Micro) are G3 or G4 800Mhz and usually 512MB of ram. Sam flex's are slower (mine is 733Mhz) but have 1GB ram. The basic sam440 is even slower.

The ones that would reach a minimum spec are X1000, X5000, & Sam460, The Tabor might just manage it but it's classed as entry level so not sure. The Tabor and X5000 are not available to the public yet anyway.

There is no shader support for older cards like the Radeon R200 based cards which are still the most commonly used cards on OS4.

R200 based systems are probably going to be too slow for those games anyway, Neverwinter nights (my favourite) was abysmal on a less than 1ghz mac, so sam440 & flex, micro, xe & se are going to be pushed to their limits on CPU, add the memory constraints on some of them and it's looking bad.

Personally I would love to see Neverwinter Nights on my X1000 & R7770HD using Nova

Re: Edit the Dock/AmiDock in OS3?
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

@Marko

Ensure the dock is active (click on a blank bit of the window) and you can the use either the popup menus or standard pull down menus to find the edit options.

If the dock is active you can right click on and icon for a popup menu with a remove option. right clicking on a blank bit gives other options eg. add dockies.

To add a program simply drag and drop it on an empty part of the dock (it takes a little practice)

Don't forget save preferences via the pull down menu or open the preferences and save any changes, maybe turn on autosave if the OS3 version has it.

Only an end user guess but on OS4 you probably have to look at the Alpha levels as they have much more support under OS4 than OS3.

@K-L

Not a long process, just download the older radeon 2.4 driver from A-EON's website and put it on a usb stick then boot from the CD and install it.

At least that should get your system up and running until the update is released.
