@kas1e

Raise a proper mantis report with your findings and CC me in. It's not my personal component but I'll see what I can do when I get time.

After a while it froze and when I tried to use the second tab, showed the same text on both tabs (issues regarding the console buffer, DOS functions or else?).

That sounds more like the console has locked up and is not updating the gfx.

OK thanks for testing. I know it's not your favourite website, but could you raise a mantis on the aeon tracker and I (or someone else) will investigate when I have time.

@Raziel

I'm not sure. I've been testing with TuneNet and I just realised that displays animations if available and they are working, simple images appear not to be.

I'm using the OS application.library one most of the time, I prefer it's relative simplicity, so something may have broken when I "wasn't looking" it would need investigating, but at a random guess try reverting window.class.

I'm using the RINGHIO AREXX port in my scripts

I have "NotificationServer" and "RinghioServer" in SYS:System/

Delete or (move to storage if you prefer) RingHIOServer NotificationServer is it's direct replacement. (originally written by Max Tretene it was distributed with ther OS but later sold ro AEon where it was develeoped futher).

Quote:

So, what now?
- Does AEon use RINGHIO as AREXX port, but "Notification" as Server?

Someone decided to chnage the name of the executable, I don't know why, the AREXX port was kept for compatabilty.

Quote:

- Does Hyperion use NOTIFY(A) as AREXX port, but "Ringhio" as Server?

AmigaOS4 uses application.library as the server and NOTIFYA as the ARexx port (to avoid the clash with RINGHIO I guess).

Quote:

It's still a mess

Perhaps but not quite as bad as your thinking, I'll blmae my explnations for your confusion.

Quote:

btw: using the RINGHIO AREXX/NotificationServer pair my scripts run, but it still refuses to show any pictures...so, still a mess

That ought to work, but might be subject to version I did once or twice have to delete my Notification prefs and start from scratch when odd things have occured.

The latest beta is
version full file Enhancer:System/NotificationServer
NotificationServer 53.74 (08/08/2019)

I'm unsure of the release schedule for that... but I would be optimistic

@Raziel

How can you use RINGHIO if Notification Server is removed from startup? Notfication server is the decendent of RingHIO, you *should not* use The original RingHIO at all, it's broken.

Either

Use AEon Notification Server in WBstartup and use the RINGHIO Arexx port

Or
Remove any servers from WBStartup and use the builtin server accessed via NOTIFYA ARexx port

Hmm, thanks

I still have problems with this Notifications though.

1) Every time i use NOTIFY ans NOTIFYA instead of RINGHIO it doesn't seem to respect the Notification prefs setting.
Is there a prefs program i haven't found yet?

Yes it's part of GUI prefs, which didn't get updated (not sure why exactly, but there was a reason for it IIUC rather simply being overlooked)

Quote:

2) The dark blue to light blue looks amazing, where i can change the gradient?

The Notifications tab of GUI prefs gives a range of coloured themes, but not ultra fine control.

3) THE command s eem to hvae changed, my scripts don't work as expected

See SYS:Documentation/Notifications/Notification_Arexx_interface.doc

They may have, I'm not sure, the builtin version is intended to be acut down version, for more features see the aeon produced Notification Server.

In a script you should be about to test for RINGHIO and or NOTIFYA and use whichever is available.

Curiously scripts get access to either server, where binaries working through application.library get redirected to Notification Server (RingHIO) if running or builtin if not.

@Spectre660

When you get such freezes that only occur when certain combinations of third party unrelated prgrams are running it usually sugests a memory issue or missing TAG_DONE type error.

I see

..so, is Ringhio one of those instances were AEon is developing the same program, but with a different name? (Again!)

No not quite.

Originally the notification system was provided by RingHIO a seperate program that worked by patching into the application.library.

Now there is a simple notification system builting to application.library with the idea that this may be replaced by a more fully featured solution should the user want to,

Notification Server ( based on the original RingHIO) is such a solution.

Application.libraries notification *should* be displaying images, if you are still running Notification Server ( check your WBStartup) and images etc have gone try deleteing your Notification preferences files and resaveing.

WRT to the aeon wave.datatype you may need the aeon sound.datatype for that to work, I didn't check but that may have been overwritten in the update.

OK seperate issue then.

what if you revert the clipboard.device? FEUP2: is 53.5 Update 1 53.3

Any clipboard handlers running? eg ClipView / SketchBlock clipboard brush etc

What version of textclip-handler do you have installed? Could be unrelated but I have reported a bug with the latest version of this (53.3) that causes pasting to hang after writing to TEXTCLIP:0

What is X-Dock guilty of and how did you come to that conclusion.

@broadbluesQuote:
That sounds like a bug in SimpleMail, it shouldn't be adding a new app icon each time.

Maybe SimpleMail isn't doing it right but the resulting behaviour is different from update1 to update2. In update1 the app icon gets placed over the existing app icon, effectively replacing it. In update2 the app icon gets placed in the next available position due to the new positioning code, thus creating a new app icon each time. The new behaviour is not backward compatible. Not suggesting Simplmail is doing it right though.

So sounds like SimpleMail has fallen foul of a fix that fixed arrangement of icons, which should never overlap.

Quote:

Are applications supposed to remove the old app icon before creating a new one?

Yes, except in rare circumtances, sounds like simple mail is just piling them up on the same spot, slowing draining resources.

1. The A-FTP Server and Font Walker programs which are Hollywood programs that use MUIRoyale both fail to start and display a requester that says: "This program requires MUIRoyale.hwp!" Do these work for anyone else. I've check and even re-installed MUIRoyale. I've replaced the MUI directory on my SYS: partition with the one from Update1 and it didn't help. I've replaced Sys:libs with the ones from Update1 and it didn't help either. Does anyone else get this same error when trying to run these programs under update2? You can get them from OS4Depot.

Could be a dependent library? Try running snoopy and seeing if anything fails to load when MUIRoyale.hwp loads.

3. Multiviewer can lockup when exiting. Only happens with Update2. Open the SYS:Documentation directory. Load the OpenSSL.doc file into Multiviewer. I drag and dropped it. Hold the left mouse button down on the Multiviewer slider and move it up and down several time reasonably fast. Then resize the window so it is narrower (may not be necessary) and move the slider up and down through the document several time. Now click the close gadget. The system locks up.

MultiViewer or MultiView?

I can't test till after xmas period but I've not seen any lockups in multiviewer on a recent os4 beta. That's not 100% identical to update 2 of course. Raise a mantis on the aeon tracker please so this is not forgotten

The problem with update2 is that the updated icon get placed in the next available icon slot so each time there is an update a new app icon appears. This results in multiple SimpleMail icons on workbench. One for every time the update happens.

That sounds like a bug in SimpleMail, it shouldn't be adding a new app icon each time. Never seen this happen with any other app YAM app icon works perfectly for example on recent betas.

Fantastic, but not everyone can use the software. It looks complicated.

Blender is more complex, but it is designed for very complex tasks. SketchBlock less so I think.

In particular with SketchBlock (as with any paint program) you can do quite a lot with the basic settings.

To do the leaves for example I just use a standard round brish with the modeulation set to fade in.

The rest is just a standard brush with pressure set to size.

I actually made a few mistakes which you can see me undo, such as resizing the image while the background was set to green.
