Coming Soon...
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

A small, new site will be coming online, hopefully this week sometime, done by a young friend.

I will provide a link when the site comes online.

A Fitting Tribute?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

In 12 days, the March issue of the St. Louis Amigan will become current. Normally, the St. Louis Amigan does not deal with computer matters, at least not directly. This issue, however, contains several tributes, one of which concerns the Amiga Computing Community, the issue having been written in late Autumn (for the northern hemisphere). Feel free to moderate or move the thread as needed.

@acefnq

Got Dapper Drake on an old PC here. Other than trying to connect to the Internet (Which has failed miserably. Hey! This is Linux, after all. I've definitely got something bolluxed there) through a peer to peer network with a dial-up connection, it just works. The lack of an Internet connection makes it well neigh impossible to upgrade software, but other than that, I find it on a par with Mac OSX. It's really good.

@FihmpenRouk

I seem to remember someone telling me years ago that they used a large sheet of black cardboard or construction paper, putting it directly behind what they want to scan. They told me that this reduced the bleed-through effect greatly, but I don't remember how good it was.

Advice for a Scanning Newbie
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

In the last couple of days I was given an old USB flatbed scanner (UMAX Astra 1220u). I have gotten it to work with my Linux box (sort of; it has a habit of locking up in that system), and my OSX Mac (using a dedicated power strip to shut it off when not in use; cool power strip by the way: Trip Lite Isobar 8 RM, it has a remote reset switch at the end of a long, heavy duty cord that you can use to shut it off without getting out of your chair ). I am in need of a bit of advice (thus the graphic):

Resized Image

What is the best and easiest way to get rid of the bleed-through (this case was, of course, a folded calendar, so a multi page document printed on both sides of the paper)?

I'm not sure if I should even be posting this here, so if not, feel free to moderate it out.

For those who wish to know the reasons for my requests, visit blogsey and look for the posts from February 8 & 9, 2007. From there it should be clear.

For those who do click the link, please keep in mind that there is a reason that I did not flesh it out here.

All I can say is that it didn't have to be this way. Some people are just too arrogant for their own good?or their employer's.

The Commodore Book has already been written, besides nobody would talk to me anymore. Anytime I tried to dig, the good spots would be covered in nuke-proof vaults.

Oh! If only Amiga had as many models as Master Howe has guitars! I remember that photo of him in the midst of SOME of his collection!

@mailman

It's confusing, but as far as I know, ITEC is/was over KMOS completely. Perhaps that will clear things up.

@mailman

ITEC LLC, to go back a ways, is the company that owns/owned KMOS, who bought the Amiga. Inc. that was the iteration formed by Amino Development changing their name to Amiga, Inc. after having made the deal with Gateway2000 to buy certain Amiga-related interests from Gateway2000. KMOS bought Amiga, Inc. before changing their own name to Amiga, Inc.

I might have some details a bit mixed up, but that's the essence of it.

@Atheist

Actually, I think it's advancing too fast. Way too fast. Before you can even get used to one thing, the next is already obsolete. We're filling up land-fills faster than we can dig them. Why? Because people are far, far, far too greedy to have the latest whiz bang thingamabob. Perfectly good kit gets trashed because it's might possibly be a generation, or even just a revision, behind the bleeding edge.

Man, I could go on and on and on but I don't want to preach. I'm tired. It's bed time.

Now, where's that :snoozing: icon?

A New Media Resource is Coming Online
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Let me begin by stating publicly that the only connection between me and this new resource is that they have been "cataloging" (and at the beginning, downloading) my MP3 files for months. I know nothing else about them. So long as they continue to respect the copyright notices contained within those MP3 files, and my faith does not require a different path, I welcome them.

For the curious, here is the link to the site: Dizzler

The PC guy does his usual fumbling and bumbling; the Apple guy is trying to be nice to him, and his younger brother comes in and embarrasses both of them by turning on and using his Miggy One while their "commercial" goes on in front of him. At the end of the commercial Apple guy chases younger brother out.

@BillE

Do you think the musically "robotomized" masses could handle those screaming steel guitar riffs from Master Howe?

I do have to admit, though, that I could see something similar to those iPod commercials coming off quite well, only have it being done on the One.

Alternatively, we could do something like those hoidy-toidy Infinity commercials, having the hip-looking stuffed shirt describing the benefits of using "the One"; the twist here being that he flips the Miggy on at the start of the commercial, and by the end of that thirty second commercial, "the One" (as he would refer to it the whole time) is booted and in use. He walks in and as he begins talking to you he flips the power switch on, briefly describing some feature or other, and as the commercial is about to end he excuses himself and starts using "the One." As this is going on, there is a small scrolling text running across the bottom or top of the screen saying that there is no trick photography in use, that this is the actual cold boot time for an Amiga One.

Of course, instead of the hip-looking stuffed shirt, we could use the Apple guy's younger, smarter brother.

@tfrieden

I think what's going on here is that people are wishing for something that might illicit a reaction similar to how some people reacted when Yes put out "The Yes Album" back in 1970 or 1971. To wit: "Woah! What is that?!!!

No pressure, though!

@others

There is something that still bothers me when I see people spouting accusations of lying against people that they do not know and likely have never met. As an example, I sat back for years while various and sundry accused Bill McEwen of lying about the condition of Amiga, Inc., all the while looking over at my collection of audio CDs including those burned from an Internet shoutcast during which he freely volunteered how bad things were for the company. I still have those CDs. We all need to govern ourselves and reexamine our own level of knowledge before we accuse.

For my own part, I long for Amiga, as I don't have a working Amiga right now, nor do I have the money to purchase one when they do become available again. The nearest possibility for me is AROS, if I can ever get my other PC working (people seem to have developed a habit of giving me machines that they no longer use ). I look at new machines these days?with hulked out specs relative to what I'm used to?and I wonder, "If only Amiga had those specs under the hood. Oh! what fun that would be!"
