Keep bugging your dealer until they realize they either grow up and start acting professional, or pack up their business and go.

It goes without a question that for a $2500 product, the dealer service must be top notch. Holiday time or not, there's no excuse for what your dealer is doing to you: the company is simply being dishonest. I strongly suggest that you contact your bank and try to get your money back. And if the dealer keeps playing dead, contact the respective local business authorities and file a written complaint with them.

The price of OS4 hardware is very high, considering the alternatives available today. People can live with such high prices only if they can rest assured that should something happen to their expensive machine, it will be repaired (or replaced under acceptable conditions). This includes in-warranty as well as post-warranty service. Otherwise no-one with a sane mind will invest in such a product, and the OS4 userbase will continue to diminish.

Putting various pieces together, I believe that the problem is wider and not associated with just one particular dealer. I'm beginning to suspect that no hardware repairs programme for AmigaOne machines actually exists. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but I personally haven't heard of anyone who actually got their machine repaired when it malfunctioned. But I have heard, instead, several stories of people who were told (in the better case) that no repair was possible, or (worse) received similar treatment to what Magic is describing.

I find this extremely disturbing. We have been repeatedly hinted that the biggest threat to the future of AmigaOS4 is Hyperion and the seemingly never-ending law suit(s). I no longer think the situation is so clear-cut.

"Houston, we have a hardware problem!"

AFAIK AmigaAmp can only play AAC streams/files that have an ADTS header. Could it be that the radio(s) are feeding raw (headerless) AAC data to AmigaAmp?

Thank you very much, Kevin - your words mean a lot to me. I'm glad you find the program useful, and of course your donation is really appreciated!

The much-demanded Undo feature will be introduced in the next version (1.3), which is slated for the end of August or early September. As for recording sound, I'd like to have the rec module written some time next year.

Could it be that the chosen power supply is too small for the 5040m SSD, DVD, and the RX550? The Windows 10 PC has a 750 watt.

My X5000/020 is powered by a 400W PSU (Be quiet! Pure Power 10), and the machine has a 500GB SSD, a DVD drive, a Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX560 card (the 45W version), and a PCI sound card. Never had power issues; knock on wood.

No, the bug is most likely in the string.gadget class (at least that's what I've been told). Also, I'm sure I was getting the corruption before the Power prefs came into existence.

Re: flawfinder for AmigaOS 4
Amigans Defender
Amigans Defender

@walkero

So far it appears to me that Flawfinder mainly registers the use of C library functions that may potentially be dangerous, rather than scan for actual vulnerabilities caused by one's improper programming. So it reports about code safety in a rather general way, in effect working more like a C programming reference book than a true diagnostic tool.

Some of the warnings I find debatable. For example, Flawfinder will warn you about every use of strlen(), telling you that the function isn't safe when used on a string that has no terminating NUL character. But that's a bogus report IMHO because, first, if it has no NUL at the end it's not a C string - so why would I use strlen() to determine the length of it? -, and second, what other method does the Flawfinder author recommend if not strlen()? Am I supposed to keep string lengths in separate variables or what?

At any rate, it's great to have another tool in the programmer's arsenal. Better rule out a hundred false positives than overlook one real problem!

George, thank you for porting this. I've said it before and I'll say it again: you're a true asset to the Amiga community!
