@nubechecorre

Any font with the correct Unicode characters in it should work.

Try the Code2000 font, that has most things including Japanese.

There are a couple of little glitches: it always crashes on exit for me, and saving seems a bit dodgy (the save points in-game take forever, and at one point it crashed and then re-loading the saved game crashed too).

Overall it seems to be working well!

Re: How to run autoconf?

I have to agree with Kas1e. Autoconf barely works properly even on Linux in my experience. Most source packages thankfully already have had it run on them, sometimes it happens that the datestamps have been screwed up and it thinks it needs running again. You can "touch" some files to fix this, but I don't remember which ones off-hand.

In fact the pipe() function there is also wrong since it uses fopen() when it should be using open() instead.

That's a dead project but I feel like I might have to fix this bug to stop it being continually quoted...

Yeah but conversion is complex, because of the lack of 1 to 1 correspondance between uf8 and 8bit encodings, and / or potentialy missing characters.

I just realised an additional problem: in UTF-8 there is more than one way of expressing an accented character. There are conventions for normalisation that should prevent this from being a problem... but you never know...

@broadblues

Yes, and untranslatable characters simply because no equivalent exists in the local charset.

@Raziel

We need UTF-8 filesystem support. That requires DOS to be updated, and Workbench, and anywhere else filenames are displayed/used. Translating the character set within the filesystem is not the right answer, although it might work as a short-term measure.

@salass00

The compression/decompression code would be smaller and simpler too.

@broadblues

Better compression, I assume.

I'd rather see a native 7-Zip which can store all Amiga attributes and comments in a compatible way.

smbfs still working here, but only the old version - the one currently on OS4Depot is completely broken for me. Looking forward to ditching it!

Ooooh, lovely! This means I can ditch Samba/smbfs!

Re: How to get into a .zipx file?

It looks like WinZip has got the silly idea of lumping together various compression methods into one file extension. Some of the ones mentioned should be unpackable on Amiga, e.g. BZip2 and maybe also LZMA? Not sure.

Not quite. ZIPX is the container format, and the compression method used within that container is LZMA, or BZ2, or whatever.

So you need a decompresser which understands ZIPX *and* the compressed format to extract stuff.

Actually 7-Zip is the same - the format can contain LZMA(2), BZ2, PPMd, etc. You can't extract ZIPX using the 7-Zip XAD plugin because although it understands those compression formats it doesn't know how to handle the ZIPX container.

Somebody needs to write a ZIPX XAD plugin. As usual there doesn't appear to be any useful C library implementing it.

binutils update?
Amigans Defender
Amigans Defender

Is anybody working on an update to binutils for OS4?

2.23.2 is doing my head in because it insists on an exact old version of autoconf which is too old for other bits of gcc, so I can't build the sodding thing.

There are now official AmigaOS 3.5+ development builds at http://ci.netsurf-browser.org/builds/amigaos3/

SSL is not currently working. If somebody knows what is wrong with OpenSSL please shout! (see also http://bugs.netsurf-browser.org/mantis/view.php?id=2583)

@Skateman

Because of a lack of dynamic layout engine, it's not always obvious that Javascript is working as a lot of JS functions normally change the page!

Should be fixed in build 4260.

That's what I'm trying to find out
I'm running out of ideas though, nothing is making any difference.

@Tuxedo

I know what has triggered this - it's the switch to OpenSSL 1.1. Memory is getting trashed somewhere, or something is unaligned which wasn't before, but it's weird that it's not happening on everything.

The only link so far is that the PA6T and E5500 (ie. X1000 and X5000) have 64-bit FPUs which gives them a different code path in OpenSSL.

@Skateman

Try https://javatester.org/javascript.html

@all

OK, currently it is working on:
X1000, X5000

Not working on:
A1 G4-XE, SAM 440EP

Not Altivec then! I thought it might be an alignment issue, but this probably rules that out too. Anyone else?

Ah, just spotted something. *crosses fingers*
edit Nope, didn't work.

HELP! I need somebody - preferably many people - with hardware other than the SAM440EP, to download the latest test build - currently 4258 and tell me (a) what hardware they have and (b) whether it starts up or not.

It is crashing on the SAM440EP but nobody else has reported any problems, so I need more reports to check if this is CPU related.

Thanks!
