"uploader" is back. This time supplying someone elses email when uploading. (kas1e's email in this case)
These files have been uploaded by this "uploader": evenmore.lha mcc_betterstring.lha hwp_malibu.lha
If anyone knows anything about who is behind this IP then let me know:
IP: 2.40.79.183 Domain Name: net-2-40-79-183.cust.dsl.teletu.it Location: Modena, Emilia-Romagna in Italy Connects to a router running OpenWrt
Browsers used from the IP: Odyssey Webbrowser on AmigaOS 4.1 Firefox on Windows
Any idea how to tackle this? The next step would be to verify all uploads via email ...

Fixed.
It submitted properly and got stored in the database. However when displaying it on the web page the htmlentities PHP command could not convert it and returned an empty string due to it containing some character it didn't understand. I'm now converting it to UTF-8 before processing it with htmlentities and it displays correctly.

I've made email verification automatic on OS4depot.
If your email address is not verified when uploading your file an email will be sent to you automatically. Replying to the email will verify your address. If a reply isn't received it will fall back to manual handling.
Regular file approving/publishing is still manual though.

@ferrels
Yeah, seriously understaffed and lack of funds has left their ability to deliver their promises in state where there's quite a bit to be desired.
Nevertheless, my guess is that Thomas and Olaf won't be caught up in all that, at least not for the coming release.
As a side note, I wish Hyperion would make it easier for third parties to make OS4 hardware drivers and stop taking all that upon themselves. They just don't have the resources to manage that on their own.

OS4Depot, email verification

It's been a little over a year since I introduced the email verification procedure on OS4Depot.
The reason for adding it was because files were being uploaded anonymously and OS4Depot got a lot of complaints about files that was uploaded without permission from the original author.
The current mechanism means that every upload must have a valid and verified email address. With the verification having to be renewed every year.
I was just wondering what people think about this solution. Both uploaders, downloaders and those who no longer gets their files uploaded without permission.
In short:
What are your thoughts about the email verification so far.

@m1nuto From the manual: $OS4DEPOT [ON/OFF/RECENT] - Turn on, off OS4Depot view or show recent files Create a user button using that command. You might need to set an OS4Depot: assign as well if I remember correctly. It uses wget to download files so you need that installed as well. Btw, please do not post crash logs in the forum here. Use http://crashlog.os4depot.net/ and post the quick link here instead. Edit: Found the full section on it in the manual:
** OS4Depot mode (Experimental)
It is possible to browse OS4Depot directly from the filer.
Current features include:
- View recent files
- Browse file tree
- Search
- Download and open files locally
- Shows which files that are outdated
- Shows which files that aren't stored locally
Requirements:
- Internet access. The real OS4Depot site is accessed in real time.
- "wget" must be installed and the executable must be in the current system
path. It will NOT work without wget.
- A work folder must be created. Example: dh1:OS4Depot
Note that all downloaded files will be stored here and the file system
will be filled with the same structure as the online site.
- An assign "OS4Depot:" must be set that points to the work folder. Just
add "assign OS4Depot: dh1:OS4Depot" at the end of your user startup file
and reboot before starting Filer again.
- One or more userbuttons must be added that uses the $OS4DEPOT internal
command see "User defined buttons" section for more information.

Okey, all my attempts with plain wine just ends at a requester saying "Please run the installer from the original Amiga Forever installation medium."
Doesn't matter if I: - Mount the ISO - Copy the ISO contents to a directory and run from there - Burn to a DVD and run from that*
But I'll check out "Codeweavers Cross Over" and see if that works.
* was lucky to find a blank dvd in a box and luckily my living room computer still had a dvd writer installed. Why do people keep on using these archic things .. ohh well.

I assumed that that was what was happening in the background, but I suppose not then.
Can't say that I can find any way to install from the ISO on linux. But I'll keep looking.
