The reason might be a design flaw, don't know. But the introduction of a method is logical because in OOP, actions upon objects should be done through methods, not through attributes.

@Antique
If you need a changing number of checkboxes in your layout, you'd be better off using a listbrowser with checkable nodes. Adding and removing listbrowser nodes is much easier, faster and safer than performing in-place changes to a layout.
Another advantage is that your layout will keep a certain size and shape, regardless of whether you have three or 100 checkboxes.

@cha05e90 Quote: the USB stack reports plugged USB sticks with it's own requester window - it could/should use Rhingio as well...
USB insertion messages are a good example of a situation where Ringhio should be used. Currently, the USB stack displays messages that somewhat look like standard Amiga requesters but do not behave like them - they do not require user interaction. For the sake of consistency, all messages of type "show and disappear" should use Ringhio. Messages that require the user to select a choice or confirm reading should use standard Amiga requesters.

@xenic Quote: The little white message boxes with warning messages, which I think are produced by Ringhio are visually out of place and violate the Amiga StyleGuide for user interaction. Requesters are supposed to be standardized system wide so as not to confuse the user and maintain some consistancy in the way the system works.
Please note that the Amiga Style Guide is an old document that badly needs updating. It does not cover certain GUI elements, concepts and metaphors that were introduced with ReAction and, later, OS4.x. As far as I understand it, Ringhio notification messages are NOT requesters (although they serve a similar purpose to the requester REQ_INFO type). Standard Amiga requesters are meant to be closed by pressing a button or a key combination, while Ringhio messages display a text on the screen, wait a little while, and disappear. This is a new concept different from requesters and not covered by the Style Guide so you cannot apply requester rules here.

@ChrisH Quote: IMHO I don't think DocX makes so much sense, since it is limited to latest expensive versions of Word only This is quite incorrect. Actually, Microsoft Word is now much more affordable thanks to the Home and Student licensing scheme. You can get MS Office for peanuts if you stick to non-commercial home use.

@corto Quote: With 100% CPU, we know that there is not enough CPU power
(Off-topic) It comes as a sort of surprise how easily you can reach 100% CPU usage on the SAM (667MHz at least). Try loading a long ASCII text file into MultiView and then use the scroller to move there and back.

Bounties have a motivating factor in them: you have the lump sum right before your eyes, and can only get it by finishing the project. While regular pay that covers all your needs is a motivation killer, I can tell you.

@unimon I moved house in December and threw away a couple of original diskettes with Amiga software, including a version of Digita Datastore. Pity, I would have given it away to you for free. No use crying, Datastore wasn't a good database anyway

Yeah, I've switched from DOpus also. Using Filer can be very addictive, especially if you run the commodity that brings up a lister on a double-click. Thanks, Orgin!

@ChrisH Quote: Basically you would be insane to implement DocX instead ODF.
Technically speaking, yes. But considering that DocX is associated with the most widely used word processor in the world, one would be insane NOT to implement DocX Of course I'm not saying that the implementation would be easy or that Desler has enough time/resources/motivation to do it. But it would be a much more logical thing to do than, for example, supporting the old binary .doc Word format.

Strange. On my system music never turns off (TuneNet, AmigaAMP) when the screenblanker kicks in. I haven't tested all blankers, I only use the Trees one.

I will narrow it down a bit so it'll not just end up a complete mess for the end user.
At any rate, with the number of options (and checkbox gadgets) increasing in the settings, you should consider using a single listbrowser gadget with check-able nodes. This will save space, memory, and will be faster to display on low-end systems.

@kas1e
It's a logical solution. Removable devices are "temporary", and so is their thumbnail storage. When the device is removed, there will be no orphaned junk files stored anywhere because T: gets erased with every reboot.

@Swoop Quote: On cameras, or phones, the storage is removable, and limited, as such it is probably not a good idea to automatically store thumbnails. On write protected media it is not possible to store thumbnails. I don't think archiving thumbnails elsewhere on a hard drive is sensible, because they could too easily become orphaned.
This is why I'm suggesting T:, AmigaOS's place for temporary storage.
