Everything should work the same with Update 4.
Do you see "Custom" in the center column list of the screenshot?

@Billsey
The only CF to SATA adapters I found on Ebay were quite expensive. You should be able to get a CF to IDE and an IDE to SATA adapter from Ebay for under ?15 including Postage and Packaging.
If you're thinking of using SATA and CF for performance reasons it's probably not necessary, 4 GB card capable of 45MB/sec costs about $110 including P&P. Lower prices equal lower speeds.

I only have update 4 Ibrowse 2.4 released on 12/2006.
How can I get OS 4.0 fianl? On Hyperion homepage they doesn't seem to accept my code number of OS 4.0 CD. Where is the code to download the final version?
I think is on the back of the cover of OS 4.0.
May it be helpful if someone send me a link to go direct to download OS 4.0 Final.
If someone accepts the risk it can be done sending it to my e-mail.Ask to me and I will give you my e-mail to do the copy of OS 4.0,all right.
Helpful your picture sure.

@billt I guess I should have gotten around to implementing the idea I had to allow you to specify board information from UBoot to be passed to PCIGraphics.card to permit it recognize a card it to doesn't support natively...

Probably because it's a 33 MHz card. The real question is if the same thing happens when a 66 MHz card is plugged in to the PCI-66 slot. Another issue is if the firmware is able to cope. Hans

This is related to this thread on ATI's recent decision to open up their hardware documentation. There was a discussion a while a go about the PCI-66 slot and whether you could use it and an AGP card at the same time. I don't think that there ever was a definite conclusion. My interest in it is because, while none of the recent AGP cards will work in our AGP 2x slot (wrong voltage), there are a few PCI cards available. If it were functional, then we could possibly use these cards. however, for development it would help if an existing AGP card were also present as a backup. So, does anyone have any experience with using this slot? Can AGP and PCI-66 be used simultaneouslty. Does the slot even work? Hans

I wouldn't know if you can plug in AGP and PCI-66 together. I would imagine it'd work find in a 66 slot. If not, plug it into a PCI-33 slot instead. As for switching between them, I don't know that too. I just swap cards installed, I've never had two together, habit from early on when that definitely would not have worked, but I don't know if that's changed or not.
Realize that the PCI vendor/device IDs need added to the list before they will be recognized, without that the computer doesn't know to try the Radeon driver on any card. That's my current problem with my A1, I need to swap in an older card in the list to install OS4, start over, edit the list to add my X1950, and then try that card again. Right now all I get is a message that no known graphics card was found to run an OS4 driver, but I do see that printed on the screen connected to the X1950. :) Ugh, if only I had time to fiddle with that stuff.

Ok, so that would be usable for now. I assume that it plugs into the PCI 66MHz slot. Would it be possible to have both an AGP and a PCI-66 card plugged in and just switch between the two? That would enable experimentation without having to swap cards all the time.
I remember there being a discussion about the 66MHz PCI slot, but I don't think that there was ever a conclusion about whether it could have something plugged in at the same time as AGP.

@IOWASURFER I know this post sounds a lot like a lot of fast air coming from a balloon but if they get their crap together and port 4.0 to the classics it will start a change reaction of old/new users I am sure...I'm not in disagreement, but the hardware/shoes are still the problem. What classical desktop system is the target for this and where is the HW available?

Here's the story. Personally, I like this idea. It's creative, beneficial to NASA's research, and fully paid for.

I mean DOS process, the parent/child feature is available through DOS function CreateNewProcTags().

AFAIK, at the moment you'd better use MEMF_SHARED memory between your different processes because parent process memory flagged as MEMF_PRIVATE is not shared with children (NP_Child) (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
When you say process, do you mean a DOS process, or a task? We're going to have to be very specific with our terminology, or things are going to get very confusing. I'm asking about multiple tasks created by one DOS process. Hans

With the new MEMF_PRIVATE flag for memory allocations, I was wondering how this related to tasks/processes. On other OSes, processes have separate memory spaces, but threads within a process can share data.
So, if I declare memory MEMF_PRIVATE, can I access them from all tasks created by the same DOS process, or is it private to that task? It would be nice to have threads with the same memory protection model as other systems (i.e., protect the process, but allow threads to share data freely).
I'm about to start work on multi-threading, and it would like to use what memory protection facilities are available.

@orgin
Unfortunately they're AGP 8x only, which means that they use lower voltage signaling than the Amigaone AGP bus does (1.5V instead of 3.3V). Hence, putting one of these in your machine, would fry stuff.

Booting from Compact Flash

A coworker/tech of mine told me about the capability of Compact Flash cards to attach (through an appropriate adapter) to an IDE bus so that a computer can be booted from the compact flash card. Now, I'm sure that someone has already done this on A1's but my question is does this work with ATA and/or SATA as well, or only with IDE?
