Okay, it's starting to take shape :) While I'm at it though, see the labels and string gadgets on the right? Each pair is a separate group - does anyone know how to get them to aligh with the group above or below without using MUIA_FixWidth? I know I could put them in in one big group, but that doesn't seem to work when I dynamically remove them...

Cool, thanks for the info anyway. If I come across a chip at some stage I might give it a try - I don't think it's all that risky a job (*touches wood*), so if it turns out to be unsatisfactory, then at least I know...

@Deniil
Hmmm... That doesn't sound too great. I know I said quality isn't all that important, but I still have it playing through a hi-fi. Other computers with motherboard sound have been fine for me, would you consider it much worse than that?
Yeah, I saw the site of the chip, it's not that bad, and I've done similar soldering with a fine tip before. Hmmm...

No, thanks for the detailed reply! Quality wouldn't be the biggest factor for me once it was "acceptable" (totally subjective of course), and I'd also like to hear from people who have both working before I risk fitting the chip. I do like the sound from my Soundblaster Live 5.1 - but USB2 would be nice as well... *sigh*
Just had a rummage in my parts bin and found a board with the 3.3V version of that chip. So close, but I guess I won't be trying it tonight :)

To be honest, I don't think I've ever tried the top slot, so it could always have been like this. It's apparently "fixed" - I was told it was by the previous owner, and I've never had any motherboard USB or IDE issues (though for my own peace of mind I use the IDE card for the hard drives). And it's running at 800MHz.
Is there much involved with fitting the AC97 chip? My board doesn't have it, but if it's as simple as fitting the chip then that's a possible alternative to the Soundblaster...

@number6
Yeah, I went and tried that just after posting, in all the combinations above, and with just the IDE controller and graphics cards installed. The IDE controller is recognised by UBoot in the 1st 33MHz slot, but it doesn't work properly - the FLB can't find the SLB.
It looks like my first PCI slot ls knackered so :( I have my PCI IRQs set as 9, 10, 11 and 7, all level triggered. I've tried swapping them around, but the problem persists in the first slot and doesn't follow an IRQ.

I'd just like to add that I've salvaged a VIA USB2.0 card and have tried it in my A1. So far it doesn't work in the first 33MHz slot (but then again, neither does my Soundblaster card), and works fine in the second slot. I haven't tried swapping further, but it looks like I have to choose between audio and USB2.0 :( My cards:
AGP: Radeon 9250 PCI 66MHz: Empty PCI 33MHz: Empty PCI 33MHz: Soundblaster / VIA USB PCI 33MHz: SII0680 IDE controller
Can anyone who has all three 33MHz slots working post up their interrupt settings etc? Because I might try fiddle with them and see if I can get all 3 slots working... Thanks!

Yup :/ I'm using AmiBlitz for it, and so MUI or GadTools are the two real options for me at the moment. If someone else comes up with a nice ReAction library for AmiBlitz then I'd be all too happy to use that instead...

Well, I don't know if it really qualifies (since it's OS3-orientated), but last night I laid the GUI foundations on an installer script generator in MUI called "InstallerGen" :) Already run into a small issue, and not sure if it's my code or the new MUI updates, but I'll investigate and keep you all posted...

@trixie
That's true, but given that the LISP-based installer is still current for OS4.1, a script creation utility would surely be worthwhile for some time at least, especially if it works on OS3 as well, as there are still plenty of packages being released for 3.x - more than for OS4, if the Aminet recent list is anything to go by...

Hmmm... Just posted on this subject on AW as well... I had been thinking of writing an installer script generating utility in the past for OS3.x - maybe I'll revive this idea and get cracking on it, it would work fine for OS4 as well.

Hmmm... Am I missing a trick here? Because I was under the impression you couldn't use the PCI slot next to the AGP slot when the AGP slot was in use as they shared signals... Perhaps this is why your card is acting funny? I remember my IDE card would be recognised in the first slot (next to AGP), but would freeze the system if I tried to use it. Worked fine in the lower slots...

Well, yes, it will look a little blurry since LCD screens only have one "native" resolution. (LED screens are just LCDs with LED backlighting instead of fluorescent). DVI-I is basically DVI-D and DVI-A combined, and so is 100% compatible with DVI-D, provided the DVI portion of the output is enabled.
I'm not 100% sure, but I'd imagine the screenmode could be tweaked to fit - 1920x1080 isn't very many more pixels than 1600x1200 so it shouldn't be that much of an extra load on the graphics system. But I don't have one so don't quote me on it! :)

Are you using float variables for dividing up your space? Maybe you've got a float/integer issue here, meaning that fractions of your elements are being forgotten...
185 pixels is fine, 100 elements in your list means though that you should have the scroll bar divided into 1.85 pixels per element, not 8.5. If you round that 1.85, it's a pretty large error indeed. If you do it this way, you should keep everything in floating point format for everything, and only round when it comes to the actual rendering of pixels. That way the error is only a maximum of 1 pixel, which you can account for separately.

A little late to this party, but:
As you can see, I'm still a fan of my CRT! That's a 32" Philips CRT, standard definition. And as far as shadow detail, contrast ratio and response time, it still beats any flat panel TV under the €5,000 mark. Cost me €120 a few years ago Hooked up to that, you have my Pioneer VSX-AX4ASi 7.1 AV amp which is nothing short of incredible, more inputs and options than any sane person could ever need, and fabulous sound. It's connected to a suite of Wharfedale Valdus speakers and a Wharfedale Diamond sub (not in the photo). It supports an iPod connection with a TV track selection menu and remote control, USB connection as an external sound card, and upscaling of analogue to HD. With that I have the Wii, my digital TV PVR, and a rather nice, if a little large, Philips DVD player. I still need space under there for my A1200 jukebox

I think AHI would normally have quite a small buffer to keep latencies low - it's not critical for recording, but for most normal purposes latencies need to be as low as possible. I would've said the buffer would need to be on the file saving end of the application - if the buffer's filling because the filesystem can't take the amount of data coming from AHI, it's not really down to AHI to deal with...

Yeah, was fun alright, and still is since I have to finish off the software. I was worried about noise on the bus, but if you look at some of the signals on a scope, they're actually not that bad at all! They were bad - but that turned out to be a dodgy PSU, introduced noise all over the place. The current one gives nice, clean signals everywhere and a rock-stable machine.

Yeah, it should work the other way around - mounting shared Amiga drives in Win 7 via Samba, but I haven't got a machine here to try logging in with root details.
