What type of memory does it have? Do you happen to have the product code for it?

Very strange. What migh cause that...? I have a HD 5450 and a R7 240, and both work with HDMI, DVI and VGA.

>- Max 1080P resolution at 60Hz

Is that limitation only due to the DVI/VGA? If HDMI works with MOS, can you there get higher resolutions?

>- No Warp 3D/Nova support so no Blender, no Shaderjoy
>- No accelerated video in Emotion/Odyssey

Yes, that is the limitation of our software. On the bright side, with Linux there is 3D and accelerated video (but only with low resolutions).

Do Radeon HD 6450 graphics cards (Caicos) work with the RadeonHD driver for AmigaOS? In HDRlabs compatibility list there are only two Asus models listed and they do not work properly.

I found a local mail-order shop which sells these models only for 10 eur/pcs:

***
Radeon HD 6450 512Gb GDDR5 display adapter: AMD-product code: ATI-102-C26405(B); HP spare nro: 637996-001 ja HP assy nro: 637183-001; Type: 2D/3D, 512Mb, 1xDVI, 1xDP; Graphiics processor: ATI Radeon HD 6450; GPU: 625MHz...
***

Are they compatible with our systems, or are they some HP-only models? Is the 512 GB enough for ordinary use?

I tested first a few days with just SoundPlayer commented out. I still got a few freezes but clearly fewer than before. In these cases it was the 'LoadWB' which got stuck (the 'echo' after it was not recorded).

I tested further by removing 'X-Dock' from 'WBStartup' and run it from Startup-Sequence (as last item there). With this arrangement I did not get any freezes when machine was started from the power button. Only one freeze (LoawWB) appeared when I first run Linux and left it by 'reboot' to get to AmigaOS.

Now I'm testing with another Soundcard (Sound Blaster Live! SB0220 PCI; the previous one was an Envy24HT PCIe), and both 'X-Dock' and 'Soundplayer' at the end of Startup-Sequence. No freezes so far but have to follow the situation a few days further...

@geenam @Raziel

Do you have an account at the Hyperion's site? The Linux fora there would be the best place to solve Linux issues.

BTW, I hope you do not have a RX graphics board....? They are unfortunately not supported in PPC Linux, so you cannot get the desktop loaded if you have one.

@geennaam
>Can you point me to the linux distro that you intent to use?

There are currently only three distros which are still updated and usable in X5000:

- MintPPC (which is best kept up-to-date)
http://mintppc.nl/

- Fienix (which is the most Amiga-friendly as the keeper has X5000)
https://fienixppc.blogspot.com/

- Ubuntu 16.04 (only minor updates, this will soon be unsupported)

But the kernels for X1000/X5000 are common for all distros, and they are very well kept up-to-date, thanks to the work of 'xeno74' (see https://forum.hyperion-entertainment.com/viewforum.php?f=58).

Thanks for the tip! YT works fine on my system. But also aiostreams's search function is still functional, so no reason to abandon it .

Should aiostreams still work with Youtube...? For some reason I get now just the 404 error when trying to use it with any Youtube video. I am using the version currently in OS4depot (20 Mar 2021).

@LiveForIt

You have to use the 'tools' which are available... As already said, I do not have the hardware needed for what you suggested. And my 'hw investments quota' is already spent for a couple of years .

@all

I was able to localize at least one cause for the freezes I have experienced: "Soundplayer" command in startup-sequence.

Problem with OS4.1FE Soundplayer
Just popping in
Just popping in

I have experienced for a long time frequent but irregularly appearing freezes with AmigaOS4.1FE, during the loading of WB... I have suspected that they would originate from USB, X-dock or even a graphics card.

Now I finally found a way to localize the problem with the following method (without the need of buying a second machine with a serial port):

1) Created a small FFS partition on my HD which I named "Debug:"

2) Added to the start of my startup-sequence the line:

C:DumpDebugBuffer Debug:1.txt >nil:

3) Added to the startup-sequence, after each command (or command group) the following line, with running number (n):

echo "n" >>Debug:Echoes.txt

With this method I was able to track that the culprit (or one of them) for these freezes is the command line with "Soundplayer", which is at the end of startup-sequence :

Run >NIL: *>NIL: Soundplayer QUIET

My question is now, for what reason(s) can this command fail or crash, so that it halts the booting of AmigaOS 4.1? Are there any known bugs in that program, which has not yet been fixed?

AmiDock crash with X5000Temp.docky (Solved)

AmiDock crashes every time I quit it (error 8000003). I do not have anything else in AmiDock than the X5000Temp.docky, which itself seems to work ok.

I'm using it in X5000 with AmigaOS4.1FEu2.

I succeeded now to get the boot halt also when X-Dock was disabled... That suggests that also my problem may indeed be in the Radeon driver!

Did Hans give any further info about this issue, and a possible fix for it? Which graphics boards are 'supported' and which ones not, according to him?

Interesting... Is that anyhow dependent on the monitor used? Unfortunately I do not have here any other machine with serial port so cannot check that.

I have used for several years a HD 5450. Just now I'm testing a R7 240, but the boot problem is still present. Maybe even more frequently than earlier... I have currently a Nec Multisync EA193 (1280x1024), connected with a DVI cable.

Boot problems when X-Dock is in WBstartup
Just popping in
Just popping in

I have noticed that cold booting of AmigaOS 4.1FE often halts to the 'AmigaOS4.1 Final Edition' splash screen if I have X-Dock in WBstartup. If I remove it from there and run X-Dock manually from the icon there is no problems, but that is not a very handy solution...

Is there any better fix for this issue? Is there some way to control in which order WBstartup runs the items put there?

@ktadd

I noticed the same if I run first AmiDock. Normally I use only X-Dock, so I did not see the error while testing the 1.95. I will report this to Paul.
